I HATE MY NEIGHBORS---venting

One of my colleagues once did this with his face and one of his dog's faces (I think there was a site online where you could do this?). Looked even creepier than this!

I know this one is a joke (I have actually seen it before) but I work in animal rescue (www.aidingandapetting.com) and can not tell you how many people give up their animals for the STUPIDEST reasons!!! They don't seem to realize that they are RESPONSIBLE for this living creature and you don't just get an animal on a whim. It's a 10-15 year (sometimes more) comittment!!! I have heard so many people say that when they take THEIR dog to the pound somoeone will surely adopt it because it is SUCH a good dog. Well, hate it but, approximately FIVE MILLION animals are killed every year in this country (most of them cute, cuddly and great animals). Yes, killed. Some gassed, some with a shot, some...well, you don't want to know. The point is, those that adopt are respnsible for that life and it is not a decision that should be taken lightly.

*stepping off soap box now*

I do rescue also and have seen all the stupid excuses. I really think that a major portion of the blame needs to go to the back-yard-breeders though. These are the people responsible for bringing most dogs into the world to begin with. They are only in it for the money and could care less if the people who buy the pups have done any research or plan to keep him or her through their lives. It just blows me away every time (and it happens a lot) someone surrenders their GREAT DANE because they did not know he or she would get so big. It’s a Great Dane, for cripes sake! They should have seen a full grown one at the breeder’s house.

That’s not the most popular excuse we get for Dane-dumping, but it’s the one that still “gets” me every time. Sheesh!

End rant – for now.

What you lacked in health your heart and soul more than made up for. RIP my good friend Thor.

I would say the major blame should go to the irresponsible people who give up a dog, cat or any pet for the stupidest reasons! And it also has to go to the people who do not spay or neuter their pets and let them roam around, reproducing at will. I am volunteering for a rescue group as well and it just infuriates me what nonsense those people come up with.

It's not the breeders (backyard or professional)fault that people are irresponsible. A responsible breeder does not breed puppies solely for the money, and in fact if they do it right, they don't make much money all, they barely break even. They do it for the love of the breed and to better that particular breed. Puppy mills is a different story though.

The breeders I know put in their contract that they will take the dog back, and that the buyer has to notify the breeder if for whatever reason they cannot or don't want to keep the dog.

How someone can give up an animal with no regard what happens to that pet, although they have taken on the responsibility when they took the pet into their life, is beyond me!

We have one of those Puppy Love stores at the shopping mall near us and you can see a lot of people do "impulse" shopping and coming out with a dog. In 90 % of the cases, you already know where this is going.

Well, Carola...if you work with rescue you can't be that bad! ;)

Glad we have found something that we both agree on! It is the irresponsible owners, ignorant people who don't spay or neuter, the impuse buyers, the ones who want "just one litter," the backyard breeders who don't care about the breed and are greedy...I could go on and on. Puppy mills are disgusting. Truly placs of horror. We have rescued a number of dogs who were used for breeding. Never walked on grass or seen daylight. Just kept in pens and bred over and over. We have a bunch of puppy stores here as well. People don't know that once they are no longer cute, little puppies they, too, can be sent to the pound. You can see as they get older, they get "discounted." Putting a price on a life...disgusting. Then, if they don't sell, they are returned to the breeder who will most likely kill them or sent to the pound. We treat animals terribly in this country. Like they are disposable. A LIFE IS NOT DISPOSABLE!!!

Thanks, Lorie! I would say we agree on a lot of things, just not that one particular subject in the other thread, so let's just stay away from that subject :)

I have found several dogs that were abandonned at the dog park, one was dumped there in the middle of the night with a bag of dog food! NICE!!! Not! I kept all but one dog until I found them a new home. But boy I just wanted to strangle those people - figuratively speaking :)

It never seizes to amaze me how cruel and irresponsibl people can be! The way I see it, every life is precious.

Boy, gotta run, my son has a performance at his school and I am late, just jabbering away.

Take care,

Carola

P.S. Sorry if I sounded offensive yesterday, bad day!!!

That picture made my toes curl.......mildly disturbing yet amusing :)
It just amazes me the things folks get up to with modern technology :D

Take Care
