How to get back into workout routine?

Wow, I just realized this morning that for the last 3 weeks, my workouts have been practically nonexistent. First I was sick with some sort of fever/horrible sore throat/bronchitis thingy for a week, then I was packing to move for a week and still sick, then I moved and have been living out of boxes this week. I'm totally off my routine, and I think I've done a total of 3 weight workouts in all that time (have sort of kept up the cardio--and does walking up and down stairs with boxes, including a 60-pound box of my weights, count as a workout?! I've done that a few times.)

Ouch. This summer had better get better! I'm not sure how to get back into my routine or even start a new one. Suggestions? I feel all out of sorts in the new place with boxes everywhere, and I'm up late every night doing moving-related stuff still.

On the positive side, I have a cool new workout room--will post pictures as soon as I figure out which box I packed my camera in!

I would say the moving with all that was involved would have certainly counted - it's not like you camped on the couch for 3 wks!

Could you start by, first of all, working out in the morning so it would be over with with nothing getting in the way later and second, plan your workouts by scheduling what you want to accomplish each day.
Write it down, and check it off when you do it.

I'm in the same situation with the moving. My goal is just to try and do something a few times a week, not push or set any new exercise goals, until the moving madness dies down. I'd suggest small bursts, 20 minutes on the treadmill if you can, that sort of thing. And I agree, moving is a workout unto itself!!

It is madness, isn't it?!! Plus, it seems like every piece of electronic equipment that I own has chosen now to break--both my computer and my pda fried themselves. I guess one day at a time, plus am workouts are the answer. Can't wait till I'm back to normal, whatever that is!

Oh yeah, two days ago the plumbing in the sink went haywire and this morning the washer refused to budge. Murphy's Law in full bloom! I'm longing for normal too, though I figure I'll be crazed pretty much through July. Ah well, one day at a time!

Hey Bunbun and Sparrow,

Just sending some "moving and unpacking" love your way. Unpacking from a move just stinks, doesn't it? And yes, lifting all those boxes, etc counts on the workout spectrum.

Just add your more traditional exercise in here and there as you can. And enjoy your new homes.
:)
