how often should work out?

I'm just wondering what a good workout schedule is. I've been working out 5-6 days a week. Would I get more out of my workouts if I only worked out 3 times a week?

Thanks,

Chris

Not Cathe, obviously :))), but it depends on the type of workouts you are doing, as well as the results you are looking for (example: strength training versus aerobic training, or high impact vs low impact, or even endurance vs strength training). What kind of results do you want (more strength, more weight loss, more endurance, more muscle, maintaing fitness level, etc.)? You weren't very specific in your initial post and the more specific you are the more likely you'll get the answers you are looking for. Just a suggestion and not a rule (also not meant to be mean:))

Take care...

Thanks for responding. ;)

Right now I'm doing 3 days of weight trainging (strength?) and 3 days of aerobic training. I want to be in shape, but also want to look my best. I've had 7 children, not that that should matter, but I can never get my lower body perfect. My youngest is 8 and I thought by now my butt would look better. I hope that's not offensive.

I'm guessing that the workout shows on fittv are not the full workout. I've read a few others posts and that's what it sounds like to me. I've used those for the weight training I've been doing. I've done supersets, boot camp, pyramid, endurance, and a couple others.

Thanks again.:)

I've thought a little more of what you said. It is true that I will never be mistaken for the great comunicator. The results that I'm looking for is to be fully tone. I don't want to be a body builder. I just want to be really tone. My upper body is good, it's mostly from my naval to my thighs is the problem. I don't know if it matters that that is where I gain all my extra weight.

Thanks for being patient with me. ;)

Have you tried the new workouts? I think these may be very effective for what you are looking for. Do you do anything besides Cathe workouts (running, eliptical, pilates, yoga)? Have you tried KickMax or Kick, Punch and Crunch (KPC) from Cathe? I have found that KPC is very effective for the thigh and ab region. I also think Cathe's new workouts are very effective for that region as well. I would probably up your cardio to 4 days per week if you are looking for fat loss. Do you do any higher impact/higher intensity workouts (ex. IMAX)? You may want to do this once per week to boost the metabolism. Also, LowMax is a great step routine with lower impact/higher intensity movements. As far as strength training is concerned, you may try varying up your program. For example, supersets, push pull, and the pyramid workouts are great, but your body can get used to the same repetitive workouts. I would alternate those workouts with the Gym Style or even some of Cathe's older videos (Maximum Intensity Strength- MIS or Slow and Heavy). If you keep up witht he push pull, supersets, and pyramids just make sure that you alternate them (ex. don't do pyramids for two months straight). You may try doing an upper body once per week, a lower body once per week and an all over body once per week to spice things up. Always put at least 2 days rest between working out the same body part (i.e. don't do upper body on Monday and a full body workout out on Tuesday). Your muscles need time to recoup. Pilates is also great for toning as long as you do an effective routine. I wouldn't solely rely on it for strength training (just personal opinion), but it is nice to incorporate on occassion.

If you post this question on the open forum you might get more feedback. There are a lot of fit and knowledgeble people that post there. I am in no way an expert, but I think that I have steered you in the right direction. Let me know if I confused you or if you have any questions. Good luck in your journey towards a more fit you:)

(By the way, the hip/thigh region is also my trouble area:( )

YOU SOUND ALOT LIKE ME, I HAVE HAD 3 CHILDREN & WANT TO BE VERY TONED. I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER GET MY BUMM PERFECT EITHER. I HAVE DEFINATELY BUILT MUSCLE, BUT I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER LOOK LIKE CATHE (DAMN IT) I LOVE TO STRENGTH TRAIN. I GOT ALL OF CATHE'S NEW DVD'S FOR CHRISTMAS FROM MY HUSBAND. I LOVE THEM BECAUSE THERE'S SO MANY OPTIONS ON MONE DVD. AFTER THE BUTT'S & GUTTS, MY BUTT WAS SORE THE NEXT DAY - I LIKE THAT FEELING. THAT WAY I KNOW I'VE REALLY HIT THE MUSCLE.
