How often do you replace your workout shoes?

I got my first pair of Rykas last August, and they've been absolutely fabulous. I workout 6 days/week and am wondering if it's time to replace them. How often do you guys replace your workout shoes? Does it work to get new insoles, and if so, where do you get them?

Thanks for the feedback!

I replace mine just about every year. Some people replace there's alot more. But one year works for me. I always know, when I start to get blisters or little twinges (is this a word?:+ ) of pain in my heels and shins. With the outrageous cost of athletic shoes, they should last 5 years.:D

I love the Ryka's, too. Nothing compares for shock absorbancy as far as I'm concerned. When I worked out only 3-4 times a week with the Firm, mine would last about a year. I suspectnow that I'm a Cathe convert, I'll be changing them more often. I hear some saying every 4 months or so! I can tell its time when the bottoms of my feet burn and I have heel pain after a workout.

I read last year you are suspose to replace shoes every 6 months if you workout 5 to 7 days a week. Even if the shoes still look good they are breaking down and you aren't getting the full support that you need.

I replace mine every 6 months. They still look new, but if I don't replace them my heels start hurting or the tops of my feet hurt. I don't stick with one certain brand. What worked last time doesn't this time. I go to the store get a pair of shoes in my size from every brand and try them on until one feels good.

I change mine once per year, because I start to get aches and pains, around the foot, heel, achilles, and sometimes knees. Then I know it's time.

I pretty much agree with everyone here (when you start to feel some aches and pains...it's time to change shoes). For me -- the aches and pains are in my knees and low back and that usually happens around month 5 or 6. So if you're feeling some pain -- maybe it's time to switch shoes and see if that makes a difference.

I have a three stage rotation for workout shoes (how anal does that sound?). I use my new workout shoes for about a year. The old workout shoes then become my everyday shoes (you know, to wear to the mall, go to baseball games, etc). My old every day shoes then become my yard shoes (for mowing the lawn and doing really dirty gardening). After that, they are more than ready for the trash.

I do the same thing. I replace my shoes after about six months, then those shoes become my everyday shoes, then they get to the "outside only" stage. When I replace my shoes I have to bump everything down a level!:)
