Hi, Carolyn!
You assume correctly!
For calcium, I keep a store of supplements (a chewable calcium, a powdered calcium, some pills) and if I haven't gotten the daily amount through diet and my enriched soy milk or protein/meal powder, I will take those. I like to vary my calcium sources, because each one has a different mix of things.
As for vegan glucosamine (as well as vegan vitamins, like the above),I get it at
www.veganessentials.com (very reasonable shipping charges, unless you buy only a small amount of stuff; and great delivery). I switch off between a powdered glucosamine from Prescription 2000 (that I put in my morning smoothie...Prescription 2000 has several other vegan supplements that VE sells); Mega FLax Joint (a combo flax meal and glucosamine with other added ingredients that are good for the joints) and "Vegan Joint Supreme" from VegLife (also available at VE. It contains not only glucosamine, but MSM, avodado/soy unsaponifiables?, and hyaluronic acid). For tablets, I'll sometimes throw them in with my smoothie so they break down. Again, I like to vary the sources, because in addition to glucosamine, some of them contain other nutrients (like the MSM or hyaluronic acid) that are beneficial.
www.veganstore.com (Pangea) has a line of supplements that is exclusive to them, and they offer some good calcium/magnesium tabs as well as other supplements.
