How many swimmers out there?

Yep
Editing:

I swim 4-5 times per week 2500-3000 yards each time. I am gearing up to compete in a meet in July. I have been swimming for 6 years, and really enjoy it.

Swimming is just one of those things I never learned....and I lived in "the Ocean State"...RI growing up. I was never very athletic or physical as a kid, so maybe that is why. It is something on my to do list though.....I wish I could cause my kids are like little (not so little now!)fishes and really enjoy it....and we have that big beautiful pool in our backyard!! Oh well, maybe someday..

Swimming is my preferred exercise, unfortunately during the school year I can't fit it in regularly. When I do, I swim 50-70 lengths, not nearly what dorothyrd does! I feel better after a swim than after anything else.

During the school year I try to swim 1 time a week. I used to be on my high school swim team. I love it! I helps you gain flexablility in your shoulders and muscle. Plus it's great cardio.

Hi-

Yep, I've just become a swimmer ( for exercise) this year!! While I have always been a "water baby", I am currently training for a triathlon so its necessary.. I love it.. its such a great way to get a workout that's non-impact. Such a different feeling workout compared to running, step, etc!!

It took me about a month to feel this way though.. before I got my rhythms down for the breathing, it would really wipe me out. Now that I have figured this out, its been much easier. I do wish they made waterproof I-Pods.. swimming laps gets pretty boring after awhile with nothing to listen to or look at ( other than a line at the bottom of a pool)

Are you thinking about starting to try and do it?

Take care, Lynn M.

Thanks Dorothy!! I know I need to get to it!! My kids taught me some of the basics......got to get myself to the Y, just have to work up the courage. I wish my gym had a pool!

Lala-
Thanks so much for the link,,, this is very exciting that they are out there now.!!
Which model do you have and love?

Lynn M.

I swim once a week for a recovery workout from running for about 2000 yards or so --

Does anyone know of websites where I could find Swim workouts?

Cool to those of you training for triatholons!

Barb:) :) :)

www.usms.org has a work-out forum.

I love to train for the IM so that helps boredom. Mixing up the strokes and distances is fun. Using "toys" like pull bouys and fins always changes things up.

Lynn, when my DH bought me my MP3 last summer (for our anniversary) it was $80. It is the "low end" that allows 4 hours of play time. I see that is is now $70 and the next one up (8 hours of music) is $80. I figured I never swim even 4 hours so that one is fine with me. It does limit how much music you can upload. These, by the way, have a piece so that you can attach it to your goggles, and if you don't wear cap, you'll probably need to since that helps hold the earpieces in place. It can also be attached to clothing. Anyway, I also use it a lot when skating and doing elliptical.

As I was lamenting the fact that I could have the better model for what DH paid last year my kids just kind of rolled their eyes and said "What do you expect, that is how technology advances!"

Lala-

You are funny, I totally understand about the technology thing!! When I bought my first MP3 player it was 300.00. It could only hold 1 hour of music.. Now there are WATERPROOF ones that can hold 4 hours of music for 70.00.... Ah, the speed of technology!

Hey, thanks again for the info.. This could change everything for me as far as my swim training!!!! :)

Take care, Lynn M.
