Holiday Spending Question

Hi All,

We are going to Ogunquit, Maine for a vacation in a couple of weeks. Now getting to go to the U.S. is always exciting for me - because it opens up a whole world of fitness shopping with things I can't get in Canada and can't afford to ship from the U.S.

So we will probably be shopping in Portland, Maine and around there.

Does anybody know:

1) great fitness chains in the U.S. that are likely to be around there.
2) that area specifically and if there is anything cool to go see for fitness stuff?

I appreciate any advice and will give the advice-givers credit when I spend my hard-earned money!

Too bad you don't live in the area AquaJock! I know you LOVE spending other people's money LOL
:p

Bumping....if no one is in the area - can someone suggest some of the bigger workout equipment chains to check out - I'm sure they must have something in the area - Portland, ME is fairly large.

Thanks!

I don't live in the area, but Sports Authority is a big chain. I checked their Web site and they have a store at:

364 Maine Road
South Portland, ME 04106
207-773-7400

I've never been to Olympia Sports, but they have a store at:

544 Congress St.
Portland, ME 04101
207-772-7828

D ick's and Dunham Sports are other ones, but they don't have any stores in Maine.

HTH...have fun shopping!

Thanks so much Laura - I've printed this off and will go check them out.

I wanted to at least get to look at a couple.

I'm getting close to the point where I'll need a (don't know what its called) stand for the barbell because my legs can handle more than my body can heft up. I wanted to check out the weight vests as well - I haven't seen them in Canada and I'm sure it would cost a fortune to send by mail.

Thanks again!

Does anyone know which of the two above stores I would have the best chance of finding a weighted vest for a reasonable price?

I saw weighted vests at Fitness Source here in Toronto. Fitness Source is a chain store.

I didn't check the weight 'cause leg workouts make me hot enough!

Patricia

Is that anywhere near Freeport? If so, you should check out the LLBean store up there. I hear it's great. I buy a lot from their catalogs. I know they have the best quality of merchandise at the lowest prices because my Dad sells them their fabrics. Their return policies are amazing too.

Hey Nancy - yes its very close to Freeport - in fact we often go factory shopping in Freeport and I've been to the LL Bean store - very big and very cool!

Thanks Patricia - I'll check it out!

Did you join in on our Canadian's introduce yourself thread? If not, jump in!

Unfortunately La Belle Province of Quebec doesn't have them. We have only Fitness Depot and I think they are crummy. They won't even consider searching for something for you.
