Hey you Jersey catheletes!!!

Liann

Cathlete
I'm trying to come up with a vacation for DH and I. We haven't had a vacation by ourselves since our honeymoon (which is pathetic since we have been married for going on 9 years!), so I'm looking for something relaxing/romantic, etc... I'd really like a hotel on the beach - not a major beach, but something more secluded. I'm kind of thinking something on the Jersey Shore, but I don't know the areas well and have no idea where to avoid and what might be ideal. I know we have a lot of people from the area who have vacationed there. Any advice or pointers??? I'm open to other locations as well. There's just only so much you can tell from the internet.

This is my dream location (not Jersey): http://www.harbor-view.com/default.asp but that ain't going to happen on my budget!!!

Well, if I had my choice I'd do Avalon or Stone Harbor. Both are beautiful little beach towns, & they don't have public facilities so you don't get as many day trippers or tourists. And the beaches are just lovely--big & clean.

Laura gave you excellent advice, I'd just like to add..stay out of Wildwood, avoid it at all costs, it's much more suited for families, and it is not the safest place in the world, either.

Here's an option for you...Cape May..here's another option...a hotel in Cape May across the street from the beach..http://www.hotelmacomber.com

I work here as a reservation clerk/desk clerk..could help you out withh some Cathe Fan prices...:D

Gayle and Robin have both stayed here in the past, and Phyllis and Chrissy have also seen the place, if you want a recommendation from them.

PM me if you are interested, and I'll see what I can do for you in terms of price.

Liann: Hi there! I saw you at the RT but don't think I introduced myself. I spent a day/night with my college roommate prior to the RT at Cape May. It was gorgeous and very quaint- tons of bed and breakfasts. It has great restaurants and beautiful beaches. If you want a specific recommendation for a place there, let me know. My friend and her DH keep a boat there and also have a summer house so they know the area pretty well.

Hi Patti! I'm pretty sure I saw you too at the RT but I am horrible at going up to people and introducing myself. I've promised myself that if I get to go next year, I am going to get over my shyness and meet some new people. I was really disappointed in myself for that. :(

Thank you both for the recommendations. I'm going to start looking into Cape May. ;)

Jerry: Too funny, we both posted about Cape May at the same time!

Great minds, Patti, great minds....just curious..how often have you been to Cape May?? What are some of your favorite restaurants??

Mine are...

Union Park..right in the hotel I work at, and recently voted Top 25 in the entire state!!

George's Place...a hidden gem..great food, only about 20 tables

Lobster House...consistently very good..especially when you can go for lunch as opposed to dinner.

Liann, you could do a lot worse than Cape May for a get away!

Hi Liann,

I agree with all the advice you received from Laura, Jerry & Patti. If you go in September the rates are lower too:).

Have a great time!!

Jerry: I have only been twice in the last 5 years but that's going to change! I love the Mad Batter for breakfast. Honestly, I had an incredible dinner on the beach but I can't remember the name of the restaurant! I'll ask my friend. I just love how it is all local restaurants, no chains or anything like that. I had no idea you worked there. :)

On the beach?? Probably Tisha's..excellent restaurant...the only other restaurant directly on the beach is Henry's...more of a family place.

The only chain Cape May has is a Ben & Jerry's on the Washington Street Mall.
