Hey Getnfit@39! I'm Gonna Do It!

Hello, my beloved Inspiration! Just wanted to let you know - I have scheduled an appointment at a hair salon for this coming Friday, and the A-jock is gonna get The Buzz!

The hair loss to date still continues day after day, and I look truly bizarre in the mirror each and every morning, kind of like what would happen if a drunk ran over my head with a lawn mower. That quiet determination and certainty - not to mention a certain amount of impending relief - that this is the right decision has kicked in, and I'm actually looking forward to getting it over with. DH still has a bit of trepidation about it, more for worrying about my feelings than his own, but I know it'll be a good thing, as Martha Stewart would say in between depositions.}(

I want to thank you especially for your support, as well as all others here as I go through this unexpected chapter in my otherwise mundane life! I am working on my next artistic masterpiece, an epic poem entitled "Requiem For A Bald Spot". Will let you know when it's done!

Thanks again for your inspirations past and present, Donna!

OOOHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank me? I should thank you! I LOVE the freedom of not being a slave to my hair! I can workout, shower, dress and go! No blow dryer, mousse, no more chemicals,etc.
Although I never lose sight of the fact that for me it was a choice but unfortunately for you it was not. ;(

Things to be aware of:

-you WILL feel ALL wind on your head to a NEW degree! Invest in cute hats!:7

-hair keeps sweat from running into your face when you workout! No hair, no sweat barrier! NOT a good thing to realize with a 50#bb on your shoulders during squats! Invest in sweat bands! I personally still have not found any so I'm getting quite good at timing when to swipe my head!;)

-If your hubby has ANY sense of humor, at some point he will give you a "nuggy" because the temptation will just be there!:7

But give yourself a day or 2 to get use to it. I went through a love/OMG what did I do? thing for 2 days, then I looked at myself and realized, I'm hooked! I may NEVER grow my hair out again!

I'll be waiting on that epic poem!;)

Good luck, we'll be waiting to hear your first impressions,

Donna

I have made my own sweatbands from old but clean tee shirts that I won't wear anymore by cutting 3 strips width wise across the bottom of the tee shirt then braiding them together. I try it around my head and then determine where I will sew the ends (I usually sew the ends separately and then together since it can be a little on the thick side to sew together first because of the thickness of the braid. You can also let the ends hang and not sew them together at all but you will need to secure the braids from loosening up.
Just an idea.
You are both brave ladies. I am growing my hair to give it to Locks of Love but I know I cannot do what you are doing (I have lots of moles on my head and that would be yuck to look at.).

Thanks to you both for your heads-ups (sorry - couldn't resist!)! I'm used to using old bandannas for my sweat bands for my workouts - may have to hit Target for a fresh new supply.

Am currently accepting suggestions for "Uses For A Bald Head". With thanks to JMFRANE, Jillybean and Amadeus, have been able to cobble together the following list:

1. Let taggers use it for graffiti instead of the wall of a store;

2. Paint Chia Pet clay and seeds on it and see what happens;

3. Stand on a coffee table and pretend I'm a shadeless lamp;

4. Sell ad space;

5. Dress in a black pea coat and go as Uncle Fester;

6. Dress in a white pea coat and go as Dr. EEEEEvil.

That's it so far. Thanks again, ladies!

RE: A-jock...............

Annette,

Just wanted to let you know that you are truly an inspiration.
If anyone could handle this little bump in the road, it is you. I know I wouldn't be able to find any humor in this situation, but you have proved, you can. Your an inspriation for all of us. I hope this is very, very temporary for you. I have an uncle who has gone through this, but for a man is a VERY different situation. He has recently started to show signs that it is growing back. Good luck on Friday, you'll be in my thoughts!

:) Tina
