Hi, I think you need to go to a store that specializes in exercise shoes, and not the big chain stores because they do not
have to expertise to fit your feet. Tell them what you need the shoes for and then try a bunch of different types. Jump up and down in them and try to mimic the exercise you are going to do.
Make sure they are comfortable from the first time you put them on. I don't think anyone can tell you what is best over the internet, because we cannot see your feet, and how they pronate.
Don't be intimidated because you are overweight either. Go in there with your head high because you are doing something about it!!

Also, go to try on shoes in the late afternoon or evening, as your feet will be largest at those times.

Make sure you ask what the store's return policy is regarding shoes so you can take them for a test drive but return them if they aren't comfortable. Sometimes I'll find a shoe that's comfortable when I try it on in the store but don't work when I do the activity.

Another thought. Are you lacing your shoes too tightly? Sometimes that can cause numbness & burning. Maybe a different sock would make a difference. You have a lot of experimenting to do here.

Kay

P.S. I love Rykas!

I had this same problem for awhile until I switched to a thinner sock & stopped lacing so tightly. I also changed shoes, but I'm pretty sure the socks made the biggest difference.
Good luck!

I had the same kind of problem. I too used lighter sockd and purchased Ryka sneakers. Their website lists the shoes and what they are used for. ( Originally, I had pain in my feet and legs. These shoes alleviated this.)

Hi Kandeycane--

I love the Reebok DMX for running but for me they just don't work for stepping. I managed to sprain my ankle twice in the space of a couple of weeks while stepping in them (duh!)--I think it has something to do with the air cushions on the ball of the foot. I just couldn't stay stable on the step especially while doing any kind of twisting movements. I would try any shoes designated as aerobic shoes, they seem to have cushioning and support where needed for aerobics plus the soles are flat! : ) I personally like Nikes.

Also, if I haven't been working out for a while or change an activity, I also get the burning feeling on the soles of my feet. When I started Tae Bo I was in agony. Sometimes it just takes time for your feet to get used to a certain type of motion and to "toughen up" (not to the point of callouses, though) : )
