Help with yoga

Cathlete
Okay guys I am going to be starting a rotation and it has yoga days in it I have p90x and p90x+ and denise austin yoga buns. I know we just did a thread on yoga but my questions are:

1: I want something for leaning out my legs I will be concentrating on building and defining the upper body but my leg muscles are just to thick for me from this rotation. So i want something for leaning out the legs and lift the buns but still a good workout burn.

2: I would like to be able to pick them up at the local stores because we are in a money crunch right now so I have the credit cards all put away.

3: I have not done much forms of yoga, pilates and all the other forms. I hear alot about Rodney Yee & Baron Baptiste so I need to get familiar with the style how do I go about that? I have Comcast but never looked into it yet.

Thank you

Beth,

If you have broad band, and are facing a money crunch, try yoga today (www.yogatoday.com). They used to allow you to download the yoga sessions for free but that has stopped now. They have free streaming yoga sessions of one hour each. I especially like Sarah Kline and Adi Amar's routines. There is a description of upcoming yoga, so you can plan which ones you want to do and which ones you want to skip.

For your objectives, you would benefit from a DVD that is heavy on lunge type poses, chair pose and other standing poses.

I suggest going for an instructor whose teaching style is to
a. emphasize form
b. NOT very fast paced vinyasa (not flowing from one pose to next very quickly)
c. with the appropriate modifications various fitness/flexibility levels
this will help you adapt and learn to use the correct form so that you really feel the work.

My suggestions for you are:
a. Power Yoga for Strength & Endurance: This is a routine where you start with a sun salutation and keep repeating it. Each time you repeat it, a new yoga pose is interjected in the flow(a pose that is not part of the satndard yoga sun salutation). The new pose is held for 5 whole breaths - you really feel it in your legs. On the next repeat the poses flow at standard speed, but the next new pose that is introduced is held for a long time. Most of the poses are leg and glute focused. After this is done, there are some balance poses that will work your legs because balance when the leg muscles are tired is challenging.

b. Bryan Kest's Power Yoga complete collection on a single DVD.

This works the entire body. It is power yoga but the poses are held for a long time and quite a few of them are leg oriented.

c. Pranamaya just released a new DVD by Jill Miller that I plan to get. Jill comes highly recommended by long-time, serious yoga practioners, for working on strength. This DVD is called Hip Helper http://www.pranamaya.com/miller_hips.html You can see clips at this link.

d. Baron Baptiste's Unlocking Athletic Power is a short (under 30 minute) routine that has quite a bit of leg and hip emphasis.

Beth,

This is not yoga, but Cathe's Kick Max (expecially the leg conditioning drills at the end) seems like something you should consider including in your rotation for your lower body goal.
