Heart Rate Monitor

I bought a LifeWise Heart Rate monitor last year and just started using it again this weekend. Does anyone have trouble with their monitor actually recording their heartrate? Many times, it glitches and will say I've got a 0 heartrate. I know I'm not dead...so I'm figuring something is wrong. I think maybe it's not always staying "connected" with my body. I put it around my ribs, right under my bra. Is there a trick to this, or do I hust have a cheapo monitor?

Sounds like you're putting it in the right place. Sorry, I've never heard of that brand, so I don't know it it's a quality problem, or you just need a new battery in the chest strap or what. I haven't had that problem with my Polar HRM, except when the battery needs to be replaced.

Mine can be a little tempermental sometimes too. Last night I couldn't get the dang thing going for nothing. I ended up splashing tons of water under my sportsbra and then put the strap back on. Bingo. It finally worked. Once I am sweating (which doesn't take long with Cathe's workouts), it works fine. It just has to have some water between it and your skin to really pick up the beat for some reason. If I start doing jumping jacks though, it goes back to 0. Not sure if my hands get too far away from the strap or what. I have a Polar F6.

Yes, I did notice last year when I had the problem that it would be OK once I got sweaty. I took the thing off yesterday out of frustration before I got to the sweaty stage, so I guess I forgot. Glad you reminded me before I bought a new one. They're not cheap!

I recently got a Polar also and the directions tell you to wet two "spots" on the strap before you put it on. Mine actually does just fine during jumping jacks.
