Having a hard time eating healthy?

I was just wondering if anybody else out there is having a hard time like me eating healthy lately?

For the last month or so i have yet to go a full week without any crap food! Im not sure what is going on with me lately? I just can't stay focused...i know i can do it, Ive done it before. I will start off really strong and then im head first into sugar donuts and honey bunsx( and ALWAYS in the evenings too, after i put the kids in the bed and im by myself(dh works eveings). I started reading during those weak hours or doing something to take my mind off of it, but i still eat crap:-( x(

I guess its time to 'detox' myself and just not bring anything into the house that may temp me! I hate to take away my kids treats though.

I don't have trouble with my workouts, there awesome! I work out 5-6days a week, its just my eating!

I would also like to know who here keeps a food journal and writes down everything they eat? I did that for years and recently stopped because i just got to where i kinda know what i should and shouln't eat,Does that make sense? Maybe i should do it agian, its only been about three weeks since i stopped....

TIA for all replies!:)

Hi Amelia.

When I first started exercising several years ago I kept a food journal and an exercise journal. After a while I stopped logging food but have kept an exercise journal religiously. I rarely veer off the straight and narrow when it comes to my work outs but my eating can fade in and out. This says something to me. I journal my work out consistently but not my food. Hmmmm....I think journaling keeps you very aware of what you put in your mouth just as it keeps you aware of your work outs. When I journal I DEFINATELY eat better but it gets annoying and I have stopped and started many times. I am journaling once again as I am doing the After Burn program. I am actually using Fit Day for that to track the macro % but that's not neccessary. I think just writing it down is plenty. As far as tossing the donuts or whatever on your kids. Do it for the short term until you get the cravings under control and then you can re-introduce the food back into the house and you should be fine.

HTH!

BTW, are you going to purchase any of the programs by Alwyn or sign up for TT? }(

I use fitday to track all that goes into my mouth (well, mostly...)But i so agree with PP about journaling everything when you hit a rough patch with eating. I also think that your kids won't miss the donuts either until you get over the cravings. I have an idea for your that worked for me. My most terrible time to snack was from right after school until dinner. So I moved my workouts until that time and that pretty much took care of that. Another trick for eating at night on the couch is lifting weights. Not huge heavy weights, but like when my kids are watching a program before bed and I am sitting with them, the urge to entertain myself(aka eat)gets bad so I got a set of 5 lbs weights and did all sorts of exercises while watching and it totally took the edge off the ravenous eating. Hope this helps.

Hi Amelia,

I am SOOOOOO in the same boat with you right now. It is VERY frustrating! Like you I have done it before, I know what to do, I just can't seem to do it. I have started journaling on sparkpeople. My only problem there is if I have a bad day I just don't finish that day out there. I will write in the notes part "had a bad day ate evrything in site". I just couldn't bear to look at cals. and all. I would have a panic attack, LOL.

Anyway, I did the same thing yesterday after having pretty decent week thus far. I just had to tell myself that tomorrow is a new day and plan my meals a little better.

Good luck and if you come up with a sure fire way to fix this, other than flipping willpowerx( , let me know.

Wendy,LOL at you!! Im actually reading the warpspeed wightloss online book right now! Ive really got to psych myself out before i start though...it will be soon! I will pop in the Alwyn check-in soon:)

Sally-LOL,at what you write on sparkpeople.com when youve had a bad day,i use to write in my journal "had a UH-OH day" LOL.

Mikka-I will try some of your suggestions this upcoming week! thanks for giving them! As a matter of fact i was just about to do my workout and its 4pm,I usually workout in the morning! Lets see if it helps anything.....

Thanks agian girls:)

I have certainly had my issues in the past with staying on the healthy eating path....and I've been one to binge too....I do want to share that I've been doing a ton of reading and research lately after I finished a 7-Day detox Cleanse....I really cleaned up my "diet" and also cleaned up (and am still doing it) my whole way of thinking, and I will tell you I am pleasantly surprised at how much simpler it is to do things this way. I typed up a bunch of this stuff on my fitness blog, I'd love for you to check it out, frankly because I am too lazy to re-type it here! LOL but it's really helped me and some of my close friends change our philosophy on eating and such...
