Has anyone tried Tracey Staehle's "Walking Strong"?

RE: Has anyone tried Tracey Staehle's

Karin,

I encourage Nancy and you to just go for it.

I remember a couple of years ago or so, writing a post at VF about the stares I got when I tried "unsual" stuff for the first time at the gym. EVERYONE there told me not to bother and just do my thing. Some said if they get nasty, I should consider switching back to working out at home. So I picked up the nerve and tried again.

I realized that most stares are not unfriendly at all. Incredible as it seems to us, most people at gyms dont use DVDs and only see the more standard ways to exercise. So it is mostly looks of curiosity or even, them thinking "hey that looks like fun". The second time I did it, some people approached me at the gym and ask if they could exercise with me.

I have completely lost my self consciousness at the gym now and have also turned quite a few people there "crazy". I once played iTread Ballet (the iTread where Grace has intervals where you pretend the treadmill handrail is a bar, switch off the treadmill and do ballet moves off the treadmill) over the gym's speakers and challenged everyone on a treadmill to do the workout. Most people (even some macho men) did it. It was such a blast.

just a question...do you think this work out could be modtified to be used with a stairmaster? Maybe do the lunges on the floor?

RE: Has anyone tried Tracey Staehle's

Repo,

The hill intervals will definitely work on a Stairmaster.

As you said, you will need to get off to do the lower body intervals.

Can you use a stairmaster and do the upper body intervals? Do you think you can do things like bicep curls, tricep overhead extensions, lateral raises and upright rows holding light dumbbells while climbing? (I have never tried so I dont know...I can climb without holding onto the rails...hmmm cannot say if I will be able to unless I try!) Why dont you try first?

Otherwise you will have to get off for the upper body intervals too.

I may have to give it a try....It won't be the first time I've fallen or done something else goofing while working out.

Loved the review... May I ask your opinion on just getting the audio version?? My MP3 player is just audio, no picture, and I was wondering if this workout would be cued well enough (since it wasn't really designed as an audio only workout) or if you think I'd be better with an itrain workout? I workout at lunch in our little office gym: 2 days on the stationary bike, 2 days on the Treadmill, but by Friday I don't really want to run or bike. I have been walking to one of the Cardio Coaches at a 15% incline and sweating my butt off.... thought this might be a fun addition though. thanks.

Thank you Vee for the GRRReatt description. I just emailed my ebay seller to see if she has it.

Gaijin,

I dont need to look at the screen anymore when I do Walking Strong, but the workout was not designed to be "audio-only" so it works best if you watch it once or workout with the video at least one.

Another option is to get a detailed breakdown with the missing cues. If you have that you should be able to manage with audio only. If you want to try that, PM me and I will send you a breakdown.

The missing cues are:
-Speed and Incline that Bobbi and Tracey are using (these are displayed at the bottom of the screen). Tracey mostly says "I am going up" or "I am slowing down" but does not usually mention by how much. You could use your own discretion, but I wanted to have a sense of how hard to work by seeing exact settings.
- Descriptions for some of the upper body moves (all the lower body moves are demonstrated in the clip at Tracey's home page.

You should not ask me questions about what you are better off with. I think everyone who works out on cardio machines needs Cardio Coach, iTrain and Walking Strong in their collection! :) They are all different enoough to work you out in ways that seem entirely different. If you go with iTrain, get the iBiClimb. It has intervals on both the treadmill and the elliptical (or stepper), with intervals off the machines. You do nothing for more than about 5 minutes before you change. Absolutely fun.

Vee,
Sorry to not reply sooner... my home computer crashed... a new internal power supply did not resurrect so I am thinking mother board ... not worth replacing. I would love to get a detailed breakdown of the missing cues ( I think it looks like a fun work out)...but when I tried to PM you I got a blocked message. Hope all is ok with you. PM me if you are still willing to supply detailed missing cues. Thanks so much.

I have guests staying with me until tomorrow. The breakdown will be here tomorrow/the day after.
