Hardcore Rotation Checkin for Tuesday June 21

Morning Everyone,
This morning I did Leaner Legs and Abs from Kick, Punch & Crunch. I never did Leaner Legs before and the barbell really bothered my neck and shoulders midway thru the workout (I have C5-6 disc herniation for those of you who don't know). I skipped the last set of deadlifts, as I'm not sure how my back will react to all of those. I did the last set of plie (how do you spell that) squats with dumbbells. Next time, I will do that last set of lunges with dumbbells also. I also thought KPC ab section was an effective ab section. I may have to do that more often. I can't remember if I've ever done that before.

Have great workouts everyone.

Hi Ladies,

Last night was a 6.5 mile run and section 1 of Coremax. Today will just be a run. We are going to see Kenney Chesney tonight.

How are you ladies doing? I am just trying to get some hardcore workouts in after just running for a few weeks.

Beverly

Morning ladies,

Beverly-Have a great time at the concert. Come back and tell me how the concert was. I go June 30 to see Kenny Chesney. I can't wait.

Yesterday was suppose to be MIS and a 30 min. run. Didn't happen. Spent the morning pulling weeds in my garden and then I took the boys swimming for almost 3 hours. We then had company. My MIL, FIL, SIL and her DH and my niece came over for supper and stayed into the evening. I usually workout in the evening so it was a no go. I think I will reschedule yesterdays for today. I will just be a day behind this week.

Have a great day!!:)

ETA: lora-I noticed on another thread that you get up at 2:30am to work out, what time do you go to bed? That is so early, how do you do it? How is your foot?

Hi everyone,

I did Leaner Legs, followed by Legs & Glutes standing only and part of KPC abs. I was too hungry to finish it!

Beverly, good to have you back!

Sabrina, what happened to you yesterday is precisely why I *have* to w/o in the morning. I hate it, but I don't have a choice. I'm up at 4am.

Kenny Chesney :9 I've watched his concert specials on TV a couple of times. You guys are in for a treat:p

Lora, I believe with all exercises you can substitute dumbbells for the barbell. I didn't have a bb for a long time. The only exercise I had trouble with was the clean and press that's done in Muscle Endurance.

Have a good one!

Hello All!

This morning I did Legs and Glutes...I thought that was on the rotation, but I think I did the wrong workout. What DVD is Leaner Legs on? I think I wanted to do that workout so badly that I saw what I wanted to see. This week on the rotation will be rather difficult as it seems like I don't have any of the workouts...

I may go for a short run during lunch today and then I'll have my class to teach this evening. I'll get in some ab work in class.

Lora...I think you should make whatever adjustments you feel are necessary to be as comfortable as possible. You're a hard-worker and I like that in you.

Beverly...it's very nice to have you back. I don't think we have met, but I know who you are via some of you posts on the forum. You stood out to me because you like to run and so do I.

Susan...I was hungry this morning too! Even though I did the wrong workout...

Sabrina...I think Susan is right...you might have to do that morning thing x( !

Have a great day!!

Susan & Marietta--I would love to work out in the morning but my sons' bedrooms are right off the living room and that is where I have to workout. Our youngest is 3. He does not sleep though the night most of the time(still). We usually end up with a bed buddy most nights and if I get up so does he. If I wake the boys up they are cranky the rest of the day and evening. I almost have a no win situation on my hands.:(

I can understand that...I don't blame you then. I wouldn't want you to have to deal with a cranky child all day. Hang in there!! He will grow up and things will work out...

You have a win situation because you do have it on your mind to workout, but sometimes you just can't. There are many who have all the opportunity in the world to work out, but choose not to...you are a winner...each and everyday!!

Marietta

My older two get cranky too. I wonder if all kids are like this or is it just mine!? The older two are 8 and 10. I might have a lot of years to go! LOL! Maybe I should look into adding a room onto my house in a couple years, then I wont have to worry about waking them up. I wonder if DH will go for this plan of mine?;-)

Thank you for the compliment too. It is greatly appreciated!:)

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the welcome back, and it is nice to meet you Marietta.

By the way, my 12 year old and 15 year old get cranky too (hormones)
;)

Beverly

Just for the record (don't have any kids) but my hubby is cranky and he's only 42. I guess some of them never outgrow it.....just joking.

I usually try to be in bed by 8:30 or 9:00 pm but sometimes I don't make it until 9:30 or 10:00 am. I have insomnia and can't get more than 6 hours of sleep a night or I can't sleep for a couple nights. I know it's not good for my muscle growth, but it's not good to be up ALL night either. I figure 6 hours is better than 0 for 2 nights, which is what always happens when I get 7-8 hours of sleep for 1 or 2 nights. My husband is on a similar schedule .....he gets up at 2:00 am. We've been doing this schedule for over 2 years and we're so used to it. I keep thinking I need to get up even earlier cuz I need to do more aerobics since I gained so much weight since my last doctor appointment. Speaking of that....I called the doctor to ask them the date I was there last. It was last July. I only started my current job in February and while I was unemployed for 5 months, I had the time to do double aerobics everyday and lost 5 pounds. I gradually gained the weight back over the next several months when I started doing single workouts again. Maybe I hadn't gained it all back yet, cuz I think I'm only about 3 pounds over my usual weight without double aerobics. Sorry to be so analytical.....it's my nature.

Thanks for the hard working vote also Marietta. I try to be diligent in my workouts.

good morning all!
today's workout: did 20mins of cardio using different cardio machines at teh gym. Then, I did a 45mins aerobic class which is design like cathe's bootcamp...cardio, upper, lower, abs..etc....

I like to run too. I did that yesterday.

Lora: just wondering, but do you think you will have to double your workouts for the rest of your life to keep the weight off??? how are you gonna do that?? the reason I ask is because I'm kinda in the same boat as you. If I do just one 45-50mins workout, I gain weight. But, if I do 45-50mins workout in the am. and doing another 30mins workout in the pm..I lose weight. Are we gonna have to do this for the rest of our lives, just to maintain??? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

any suggestions anybody????
thanks
take care:)
Gloria

I don't do cardio twice daily everyday, but I will do it twice daily about 2 times/week. The days I do it twice are usually days when I have class and since those classes aren't quite as intense for me because sometimes they are interval/bootcamp type classes and sometimes my classes just don't want to work all that hard.

There was a time when I was doing it more frequenty, but had the same concerns Gloria expressed about having to continue with this for the rest of my life. So I decided to stop doing that before it was too late.

Now, what I did find out is that I was eating a lot more than I needed to. Don't get me wrong, I love to eat and currently I eat about 2000+ calories/day. However, I cut back on the processed carbs and can still maintain my weight with 1 cardio session/day on most days.

Just log your eating for a few days...make sure your portions are reasonable, buut at the same time make sure you are eating enough. Also, consider the fact that you guys may just be adding muscle which is a good thing.

Getting your bodyfat measured would be a good thing. They have the Accu-measure which costs about $19.95 and you can measure your own bodyfat. We all know that scales can be very deceiving...

Hello Everyone:D
Beverly so happy to see you are back..... missed you!!:D I hope you and your family are doing well! You have been in my thoughts and prayers. :)

Sabrina I tried early morning exercise and I just don't have the evergy or motivation. I have to be up at least a couple of hours.:D
Maybe one day ;-)

Diane Sue I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope everything goes well. Sending prayers your way!! Keep us posted.

Today I will rebound and do a segment of stretchmax. I feel my endurance is getting better from doing bootcamp every other day. For some reason I feel so STRONG:7 Do you think it is SAFE to do this workout for a month??? Btw I have been using my rebounder for some of the high impact.....My hr stays up high even when I use it!!

Take care,
~Nicole

Gloria,
I no longer do the double workouts, and that's why I gained the 5 pounds back. I've never been able to go lower than about 7 pounds less than what I weigh now without double aerobics. I really can't watch my diet any more than I do. However, being a vegetarian, sometimes I know I eat a bit more carbs than I should. I mostly eat salads, fruits & vegetables and low fat cheese with minimal carbs, but every once in a while, I'll splurge and eat pasta or pizza, but I don't make a habit of it. I guess it's just my 40's taking their toll on me. I may try to increase my aerobics just slightly, but I'll not be able to do double aerobics my entire life (until I retire, but not while working). I may do a fatloss rotation next month. I KNOW I also eat enough calories.

I forgot to answer the question about my foot. It is slowly getting slightly better. I think it's just going to take time. I'm not limping quite as bad and I've been icing it at home.

I know sometimes I may come across like I'm preaching and I'm really not...If I offend you guys, please let me know.

Gloria...I see you are a vegetarian and knowing that helps me understand a little better. It sounds to me like you are not getting enough protein (based on your description of what you eat). I know that's very difficult to do being a vegetarian, but I know it's possible. Also, I would try to incorporate more healthy fats (natural peanut butter, etc.). I don't think it's got anything to do with being 40 something....And I'll say it again...I think I asked you in another forum...how do your clothes fit? How do you think you look? Is it muscle?

Nicole...if Bootcamp feels good to you and you are seeing results...have at it!! Especially if you are using your rebounder.

Marietta - It was me with the weight gain problem (Lorajc - Lora). I don't think you sounded preachy. I do eat healthy fats. I eat almonds and peanuts mostly for that. I don't like peanut butter. My pants have been tighter lately. I have noticed some weight gain in my problem areas....lower abs, butt and thighs. I also drink a protein drink.

I'm sorry Lora...I knew it was you...Just typed Gloria's name for some reason.

It could be because you have cut back on your workouts...but don't you think you may not be hitting it as hard because of your injury?

Just another thought...

I guess maybe 1 pound could be muscle, but I have a hard time gaining muscle. I tend to be very thin on my top half and carry my weight from the waist down. I'm not overweight. As a matter of fact, when I was 7 pounds thinner, I was still unhappy with my legs and overall shape. It seems my upper body gets skinnier and my lower body looks the same. I have been working out just as hard. I do my aerobics on my rebounder and have been getting my heartrate up to 156 which is about the peak for me. I haven't been walking around at work quite as fast, but I don't think that could burn too much. I, however, have been eating slightly more cuz I get soooooooooo hungry, but the things I've added have been fruits and yogurt and maybe an extra 110 calorie granola bar mid morning. I know I'm used to doing a bit more cardio.......used to do a lot of circuit type of workouts which seem to help me lose weight. Lately, I've been doing the rotations and have been doing weights first and then shorter aerobic sessions. I hope next month's rotation is different than that. Also, next week is the endurance week on the current rotation and that should help. My problem is that I get so hungry, I have a hard time going 3 hours without food and need to eat at about 2 hour intervals. I also can't fall asleep when I'm hungry and I'd been eating an apple about 20 minutes prior to bedtime. I'm going to stop doing that and try to do without my morning yogurt prior to my workout. That should cut out about 200 calories.

I feel you pain Lora...it can be frustrating.

Do you have a pear shape? Typically pear shapes have a hard time losing from their bottom half. What generally happens is that they lose on the upper body first and by the time they get to the point where they will start losing from the bottom half...they are frustrated with how their body is looking and end up giving up. In order to lose that bottom half, your top half is going to look pretty thin, but I would still go for it. After you get your bottom half where you want it, you will need to build up your upper half by lifting pretty heavy and frequently.

Sounds like you really don't need to work out anymore than you are...you're probably getting in some extra calories. I would hate for you to not eat before going to bed if you can't sleep that way, but instead of the apple how about some sort of lean/low carb snack w/protein? Even low fat cheese would do the trick.

When you think you are hungry...you need to put a piece of sugar-free gum in your mouth, drink some water and wait until 3-4 hours has passed.

I might ask one other question...when you cut back from your 2 cardio workouts, did you change your eating to coincide with that change? Since you were burning less calories, did you consume a few less calories also?

I'm just throwing out some of my thoughts...not scientific by any means. Just trying to see if we can figure out where the problem lies. Still don't think it's age related at this point.
