Hanging Concentration Curls Question

I need opinions, please.

In 4DS: boot camp and Bis/Tris, I have a question on how to best improve my abilty to lift 20 pounds on biceps curls, especially on regular curls and the hanging concentration curls.

Should I:

- curls with 20 pounds 'til I can't curls no more (even if I can't complete the set), trying to add one more rep the next time I do this workout

OR

- curl with 20 pounds until I cry real tears ;), then drop to 15 and complete the set

OR

- curl with 20 pounds (on the hanging curl) until I am cursing Cathe and everyone that looks like her, and then help myself out with a little cheat with the opposite hand for the remainder of the set. In other words, use the right hand to help get the left hand up and then return the weight to the bottom with my left hand only (little cheat on the positive/work the negative without a cheat).

Thanks for reading!

Susan,

I usually do as many reps as I can and then drop to a lower weight if needed, trying to complete the full set.

I'll be curious to see how others handle it.

I'm anxious to hear responses on this too. When I'm struggling I lift as heavy as I can for as long as I can. Then switch quick to a lower weight. But I like your thought of "helping" that bicper along.

Another Q to add to this thread. Should you keep your shoulders square and even (both parallel to the floor)? It looks like they have the working arm completely hanging down, shoulders NOT locked into place. TIA!

I do as many reps as I can with 20 pounds and then drop to 15 pounds. I love concentration curls but not the hanging ones. For som reason I can't feel it as much as I can with the seated ones.

Maybe try using a weight in between that 15 and 20# range.

I have these on my Christmas list.:) There was a post about these a few weeks ago......the Catheites on this forum have made my list super long this year.

Although they are a bit pricier than platemates, it seems that I could get more use out of paceweights. Thanks!

I'm guessing these pace weights wouldn't work very well on neoprene covered weights. That's what I have right now up to 10 lbs. I'll probably buy 12 lb and 15 lb pairs in the next month or two. I was going to look for neoprene covered ones because I don't want to buy gloves...

Susan, when I first read your post and you talked about cheating with your opposite hand, the first thought that popped into my head was that you were "cheating" food-wise, and you had a donut or a piece of cake in your opposite hand as you did your concentration curls!
Just wanted to share that becasue it made me smile when I read your post. :)

I vote for this option, with an addition:
Start with your weaker arm, do as many reps and you can, plus 1 or two assisted reps (give that other arm something to do!)
