Had my surgery today...

little stop at Home Depot

A small living plant. Flowers that will live if watered would be nice.

or. . . Cathe gift certificate?

I hope you feel better soon.

I like the going out to dinner thing because she and I are always talking about how we used to eat out all the time but can't afford it anymore (or shopping or anything else...). I also like the diabetic baked dessert thing and the spa thing.... would THAT be awesome, or what? Lots of really great suggestions. I can't thank you all enough for your feedback and support.

I was wondering, of those of you who've had the surgery or know someone who has, I have a question: Did you have issues with tearing? I know I only just had surgery yesterday and it will be awhile before my body gets back to normal. Still, my left eye keeps tearing-up and I'd feel better if someone would tell me this is typical. Especially with the runny nose and all. It's like one big, uncomfortable cold/allergy/sinus mess. They're not removing the gauze until Monday morning. Until then, I'll just quietly lose my mind... He better not be late then, too.

My brother had this surgery several years ago so I asked him about it. He said that the post-surgery "drainage" was pretty annoying, but apparently it's normal. He said that your sinuses get kind of irritated which can lead to extra gunk in your nose and some eye tearing.

As long as its just a little general tear and gunk leakage, you should be fine. My little bro told me that the worst part was that you can't actually blow your nose, you just have to let it drain into the gauze pad, which causes this constant irritating trickling sensation.

The good news is, he says that the improvement in his breathing has made it really worth it. Keep hanging in there!

Okay, I feel somewhat relieved. It's just that it's quite a bit of tearing and it's only my left eye... I guess I'll find out Monday morning. As for the gauze pad, I ditched that thing fast. I wasn't getting enough nasal drainage to bother with it (mercifully). Really, though, I never dreamed one of my greatest desires would be to blow my nose, but here I am.

Funny story about the gauze pad. While the staff was carrying on about my surgeon's chronic lateness the one nurse said she was glad he had another surgery scheduled as I was leaving. She said If he hadn't he would surely have come in to "adjust" my drainage pad because "The nurses never do it perfectly enough for his satisfaction." That guy probably has no clue how bad he pi**es off the hospital staff and that they all start venting as soon as he's out of earshot. Hysterical.

That's so passive-aggressive! I can't believe the lack of respect some doctors have for nurses. Oh well - usually the more ridiculously pompous they are, the better they are at surgery, or so my SIL tells me...so at least you know you were in good hands. :p
