Gushy Responses

Olivia

Cathlete
Ladies,

I have been using Cathe workouts since she started and I intend to continue. But I have to ask myself, why are some of the responses to Cathe's post so gushy? I like her too! But please, she is just a normal human being.

Go back and re-read some of your posts, surely you will agree, is there any need to be so syrupy. A simple glad to hear your getting better would suffice, wouldn't it?

Hope some of you won't be too offended :-( but this is an open discussion isn't it? :)

It depends on each individual's personality. Some folks are just naturally "gushier" than others and there's nothing wrong with that IMO. :) I don't happen to be that way but hey, to each his own is what I always say!

Lots of the women here hold Cathe in extremely high regard and I happen to agree that she deserves it. I'm not "gushy" about it, but I agree 110%!:)

Have you never struggled with something, and then found something or someone that helped you with the struggle? I think that is why you find gushing responses.

I have seen the same about other good video series as well, the TLT's and P90X's come to mind. When something clicks with a person, and clicks quite well, there are passionate responses.

As someone who has spent quality time at many a sci-fi convention, I have no issue with fandom :) Being a fan of someone or something is *fun*. It can give you a boost AND brings you into a community of others who share your excitement and enjoyment. I'm not a "gusher" myseff but If people are fans of Cathe and want her to know it, I say go for it. Woo hoo!

What I have never understood is why other people care if I'm a fan of something, gushy or not. (Olivia this is not directed towards you.) I'm thinking of the times I have had people scold me or demand that I explain my love of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc. My overwhelming reaction to those people is, "Leave me alone! Just let me enjoy myself, What's it hurting you?"

Of course, if someone is a crazed sports fan in this country, with Miami Dolphins shirts, sheets, towels, dishes, tattoos....THAT'S perfectly OK. x(

I have nothing to comment here about being gushy, but just wanted Sparrow to know she isn't alone in her love for sci fi. Can't wait until October when the new Battlestar season starts!

Bravo, Rogue, bravo!:)

I guess my peeve is when people attack a person for asking a question. Or instantly jump on someone for an opinion. I see that alot around here. It makes you afraid to post or say anything most times. It reminds me of the high school cliques. EWWWW!!!!

I believe it is because most people humor themselves with tearing others down. I wish I had that much time on my hands. IMHO.

The people who gush (maybe I am in that category) must have a reason to. Many of the women on this forum have changed their lives with the help of Cathe. I say who cares?

Did someone say Star Trek????? Yeah, love it, all of them, and my 4 year old has joined me in watching re-runs. LOVE sci-fi!
Sorry to hi-jack the thread!!

I simply cannot improve upon Sparrow's remarks. Once again--you took the words right out of my mouth. Oh, and you said them much better than I would've. :p :7

Hmm, well, I think that people who post inflammatory questions or opinions should expect those questions or opinions to generate a lot of buzz, not necessarily all of it understanding or supportive. Actually, I suspect that's sort of the point of them posting in the first place.

It's a bit karmic, eh?

I'm not really the gushy type, but I do tend to get a little silly about Cathe, mostly b/c she's my idol & I use her physique as my goal or motivation, so to speak.

Also, many of us are really grateful to Cathe for giving us home workout options that are comparable to (or even in some circumstances better than) what you can get in a gym.

I think it's more a matter of us showing our appreciation, & her knowing it's there, than some kind of inappropriate hero worship. JMHO.

Well said Sparrow and Laura...why do I care if someone chooses to gush a little bit? By the way, some of the "gushers" gush on other forums about everything they are passionate about, not just Cathe. I don't necessarily think that is a personality "flaw" they need to change. Some people gush and it's not hurting anyone or offensive to anyone, or attacking anyone so gush away people!

I am not a gushy person, but I can understand the ppl who do give give the gushy remarks. When you struggle with ur weight (which I do) and find someone who has helped u lost ur weight, and keep u motivated to exercise, they become your hero. And I also prefer people living gushy remarks then attacking people for giving their opinions.

Also, the problems with forums/emails, it leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Someone might write smtg that sounds overwhelmingly gushy (and this also works for ppl who think they are attacking someone), but really, they did not mean it to be gushy or hurtful, it's just the way they put the words together.

Anyways, maybe I haven't really written anything too gushy on the forums, but I must say, Cathe has changed my life, and my boyfriend is completely fed up of hearing about her, lol, cuz I do talk about her every single day. :7

I'm a gushy kind of person. Can't help, it, just the way it is. I am what I am. Some people even call me sweet. Better than being a bully, or mean and rotten. You can count on a good remark, almost everytime. I say almost because, I too have my moments. But it's mostly gushy.

One of these days, I'll use Smilies, but I don't know how. It would make this a better paragraph. I'll work on that.
