Gone with the Wind

Hey Laura!

It is getting close to Thanksgiving. Are we still doing the read of GWTW? I'm game. I don't know if there was anyone else out there joining us or even if we were posting it. I still have to go dig up the book from my bookshelf somewhere.

I am planning to join you. I just requested the book at the library...hopefully I'll have it in a few days!

Most definitely! :) I'm really looking forward to it. It's been about 20 years since the last time I read it.

So, who's gonna watch the movie first? Or should we watch after we finish reading?

I think I'll read first, then watch. I like to become familiar with the original story first, then see the movie. (That's what I did with the Harry Potter series too.) Although in this case it will be impossible not to picture Scarlett as Vivien Leigh and Rhett as Clark Gable while I'm reading!

I'm in!

...and, I am cheating because I already started reading. I truly do not have much reading time sooo figured I'd better get started on the 1,037 pages! I am on page 312 now and just have short periods of reading time so you guys will prob catch up to me fast! I am LOVING it...such a GREAT story! So much that I picked up the book Rhett Butler's People yesterday at Sam's Club. (it's ONLY 690 pages! LOL!) It says on the front cover, "A must-read for Gone With The Wind fans." I have not seen the movie since high school days and def plan to rent it this winter to watch again. Thanks again for the suggestion to read this. I think it was Lauramax that had the brillaint idea!) "See" you all DOWN SOUTH!!!

I put a copy on hold at the library and can pick it up on Saturday. I'm going to get an early start, too, as I also don't have a lot of reading time these days. I decided to watch the movie after reading also as I think I can get a better comparison that way.

I wouldn't fret about reading time you guys. On weekdays I'm lucky if I make it through a page without falling asleep. I'm thinking our "reading assignments" will be something like 50 pages a week, which'll be (barely) managable for me. Hopefully I'll get to do more on the w/e, but these days I have to do stupid crap like laundry & housework on the w/e.

And of course if you get, like, 400 pages ahead like Mama Deb, that's OK too. ;)

Watching the movie first is easier only b/c it's traditionally show on Tgiving w/e (I think for 24 hours on TBS?), I guess I could actually enter Blockbusters & rent it. :p I have the VHS "Special Classic Edition," but I don't have a VCR anymore.

Oh duh, I'm such a freakin moron, I DO have a DVR!

I'm so glad that there is a good bunch of us. I think I might start a little early since I haven't had much time to read lately either! I did start the Rhett Butler book last night, but not much read before the sleep kicked in. Just like you Laura it is like a sleeping pill. Sometimes one paragraph gets me asleep. Have you every fallen asleep while reading but the story kept going in your brain? I can't tell you how may times that has happened to me.

Well, I had better get back to work. Have a great day everyone!

I ordered a copy from Paperbackswap.com right when we first talked about it and now I have to go find where I put it. I should probably start early. I think I'll read before watching the movie because I have seen the movie and didn't really get into it. I'm hoping reading the book might improve it for me.

I'm still in...I should have my current read "Talk, Talk" by T.C. Boyle done in plenty of time for the 11/28 start....that was the date, correct?
