Freestyle Training

Hi everyone. I was reading previous posts about freestyle training and am wondering if anyone has, or could create, a rotation for freestyle using Cathe's videos. I found a rotation on another site but it uses Kathy Smith and other instructors' videos and I would like to use all Cathe since the only KS DVD I have is her kickboxing one and do not want to purchase any other w/o's except Cathe's at this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this may be just what I need to lean out my lower body (even though I HATE doing lower body compared to upper x( ). This is the first time reading about this type of training so I can't even begin to guess how to use Cathe's stuff in order to do this. I know it's low weight, high reps/sets but I don't know which DVD's would work the best for this program. Also not sure how Cathe's cardio would fit in here. Would stepping be too much leg emphasis, or an excellent kind of cardio to use in this type of program? See all the advice I could use?

Thanks for the help! :7

Char...I pretty much go by the book. This is the site http://www.gsnyderproductions.com/home3.htm if you add Cathe workouts then decrease your weight to 70% of what you normally lift. For example if you lift 50 lbs for squats then go to 35 lbs. Not sure I have ever seen a rotation. I do Freestyle 4 days and Cathe 2 days in a week. If you hate working lower body this could be a problem....Freestyle is done 4-6 times a week depending on the results you want....:)...Carole

Hi Char,

You could to step videos with this, but with a lower step, I don't know how high your step is that you normally use, but you'd wnat to stay at 1 or 2 risers and if you do, then any of your Cathe cardio would fit. As for Cathe's strength videos I'm not sure as free style not only depends on lower weight/higher reps. But also fast reps, this you build strength but not a lot of muscle. Granted you won't build the strength you would with a 30 lb dumbbell, and if your useing 30lbs + now, you'll lose some of your current strength with free style. As anything under 20 lbs is do able with free style. Anything heavier is just too heavy for most people. And I mean height/weight/strength as factors because of the speed of the reps. It's just hard to get a 30lb dumbbell up there that quick, and not hurt something. If you have Cathe's pure strength series, you know the ab work at the end of the leg, shoulders, abs? That is the speed you want for your legs and arms in free style. Maybe that will help you figure out what Cathe workout will work. As I'm coming up blank, but I don't have all of them yet either. As you want 12 to 15 reps, under 20lbs and usually doing a rep a second or a rep ever 1.5 seconds. And what I means is take a bicep curl, you start in the bottom position bring it all the way up, then back down to starting in about 1 second. All of Cathe that I know of are a little bit slower but then you can modify, since your going to be doing more reps, and you'll have a lighter weight, just do your one second count and follow along with Cathe and do the same exercises. That would be the easiest, and cheapest way to go. Just you'd have to really pay attention to your counting.

Hope that helps,

Kit

Here's the rotation that I mentioned that uses Kathy Smith, etc.

Now, based on this, what Cathe w/o's can I substitute in place of the others' w/o's? Any suggestions? I would really like to try this out to see if this will work. I think that I will also get the Freestyle, and Lower Body Solution books as well. My only concern is that I will get bored with using the book's exercises. After all, the book is not as enjoyable or motivationg as watching and doing it with Cathe. :D What do the rest of you think about this rotation/plan? Again, I would like to do this using mostly if not exclusively Cathe. I just need to know which DVDs I would need.

Char...I do mostly running for my cardio and some kickboxing besides a bit of step. The Cathe's I use are GS legs, LL, L&G, PLB, PS legs, basically you can use any if you cut the weight back. When I do the Freestyle exercises from the book, I do 4x20 reps of 4-6 exercises. I have noticed I've gained more endurance in my legs when running. That is one thing I wanted....:)..Carole

Mari!!!! Are we even now???....Remember P90X....http://bestsmileys.com/lol/12.gif[/img]....Carole

Another thing you can do, is just use Cathe's workouts, but go ligther, and do a few more reps, so you can at least still workout with Cathe just you'll be using lighter weights, and doing the reps a little bit faster. This was one thing I learned in my freestyle training class, so I could teach others how to do freestyle. My free stylers followed along, but would did 1 and a half rep for my every 1 rep. So I was actually teaching two seperate groups. On my left I had normal toning sculpting people and on my right I had my free stylers. I'd usually keep routines to 8 reps, so my freestylers would do 12 reps. It was a really great class and everyone enjoyed it, as sometimes my normal toners would go and try the free style, or my free stylers would do normal toning for a day. Just to get some variety and compare the difference. It worked great, espeically since at the time, most weren't interested in free style and it really made it hard to get enough people to join a class so I could keep it open and pay for the time, to have the room. Just don't count with Cathe and you should be right where you want to be. But you should be able to listen to her, and have her remind you to watch your form and do the same exercises, just at a different pace.

That is the cheapest and easiest way to do it. Of course it's always nice to have another Cathe DVD there to workout with. ;-)

Good luck,

Kit

I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is freestyle training? I keep hearing it mentioned and am curious about what it is and what it does for your body??

Thanks,
