? for Outdoor Runners- Ice Cleats?

Hi there-

Do any of you runners who run during the winter have a pair of ice cleats?

If so, do you like them? Any brands that you can suggest or advice you can throw my way would be great.

After doing my last 3 runs on the treadmill at the gym, I'm thinking its going to be a very long winter if I can't run outside very often.

Thanks in advance, Lynn M.

I use yak trax. They work great. I got mine at Scheels sporting goods.
I just got the walking ones. The pro ones just have a strap I think which I didn't need.

I have just recently (since August) started running. Up til then my outdoor exercise was limited to nice weather (inline skating, swimming), but now I find that I, too, like to get outside to run and living in WI, that simply means...MORE GEAR!!!! I recently got some Nike cold weather pants and tneck, so these yaktrak just might be on my Christmas list;)

Thanks for the info on the Yack Trax and I am glad to hear they work well..

I also looked at Ice Cleats, but they are way more expensive. I think the YackTrax pros will be what I get since they are suited for running.

Yup, I just added something else to the Christmas list too! :)

Take care, Lynn

While I share your aversion of the dreadmill, I personally would not tempt the fates by trying to run when there's ice on the ground...This is because I have been known to wipe out in perfectly dry conditions. *heh heh*

However, I take my hat off to you.

Running in ice cleats? Now THAT's dedication! Rock on!

Wow... running on ice? Be careful!

I can't tell you how many people I've heard of falling on ice and breaking a bone, just walking. It might not be worth the risk. I think I'd just stand the treadmill for a while. (Get some wireless headphones and watch TV or listen to music on the treadmill... it helps!)
