Fit 40's

Murphy

Cathlete
Right now, today is an uplanned rest day. If I can get a minute to myself then that will change but, we all know how that goes... Anyway, this week is Tracie Long Training week. There are 4 dvd's so I am still on schedule to complete her series this week and then back to Cathe, 4DS next week.

Back to STS...

Well, I certainly enjoyed my week off from STS, but started Mesocycle 3 this morning. Only four more weeks and I am finished with STS for the rest of the year.

Murphy, I hate those unplanned rest days! I feel so annoyed and guilty. I don't know why our minutes to ourselves are at the bottom of the list. I'm trying to retrain my family to think of their responsibilities as being theirs, not mine!

I haven't done any Tracie Long since my Firm days. I used to like her, but I've not done the Firm in years and years. There are just so many other videos that have moved in to take their place! How do you like her TLT videos?

Well, off to work. It's going to be a crazy week and I have to stay ahead of the avalanche.

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Today was PLB, haven't done that one in a long time, we will see if my legs are talking to me later. Murphy, it is always frustrating when you can't get your w/o's in, I get wound up about it. I just recently got rid of my TLT's, Had only done them once or twice. Kathryn, Hope work isn't too bad, but busy is good right? Lisa, when is the start date, Wed or Mon? Ronne how are you? How was the weekend away? Well, the bus will be arriving soon, I am going to enjoy the quiet for a few more minutes! Talk to you all later Mary

Day off

Today is my day off (somehow it migrated to Tuesdays), so I'm just dropping by to say "hi."

Mary, busy at work would be good if business would pick up! We're seeing a little bit of improvement, but things have a long way to go. Being self employed means I have job security (I'm not going to fire myself!), but I may not necessarily have any income to go with it.

Murphy, I miss 4DS! In fact, I miss all of my other Cathe weight workouts. I hope that DH doesn't expect we'll just do STS forever, because I think that twice in one year (and back-to-back, no less) is plenty.

He's trying to learn some of my other videos. You should see him on Imax 2 -- I tell him to just keep moving and he'll figure it out eventually. But I had an advantage when I started because I've been doing step aerobics for years and years, and he hasn't.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say good morning. Off to work!

Hi Alll,

Well, the little ones got me again. I did manage to sqeak out about 30-40 minutes of weights, but it was not what I planned. I am glad I got something in and I plan to do my afternoon/lunch walk as usual. I guess I am anxious b/c I bought a new medicine ball and am anxious to use it - that "new equipment high".

Kathryn - I Like the TLT dvd's that Tracie is in. I think it is just her and the way her personality comes through. Susan Harris used to be a favorite of mine but, and I hate to say it, she seems off. I thought her cueing was off a bit and I have other issues, but I try to look past them and focus on the workout. Jen Carmen was higher on the list than many of the other Firm instructors, but mainly b/c she did the weight workouts which is my preference. For some reason, she too bugged me in the TLT series. I don't know why.

Hi everyone. I decided to start STS again, thinking that once work starts to do 1 UB and 1 LB on Sat/Sun, and then I know I can squeak in an UB during the week, then I'll do my cardio workouts on the other days and if I miss one I won't be as upset as missing a weight workout....well, that is the plan anyway :)

I still don't have a start date, but I'm pushing for the 21st, I have too much stuff to get done before committing to working 40 hrs a week.

I only did Abs on Sat, took Sun off as I wasn't feeling well (a cold achy but no fever feeling)--yep unplanned rest day! Monday I did STS Disc 1, today I plan Disc 2 as soon as I get done typing to you all.

We went and bought a car on Sat.....Honda Civic 2008, the plan is in a 3-5 yrs when the youngest needs a car because the one he is driving is getting older (and maybe by then I'm not commuting) he will buy it from us at trade in value. So he got to pick some of the options on the car. :)

Maddy's arthritis in her leg is really bothering her because of the colder damp weather.....I'm trying to hold off giving her pain meds because of her kidneys----our vet is out of town and I didn't feel comfortable with the relief vet and since it wasn't an emergency I decided to wait. Her limp is soooo noticeable but she still walks in the morning, this morning I limited her to 1/2 the distance. I'm going to get more serious about putting her on yucca intensive to see if that natural remedy helps, getting her to take it is a chore but one I think I have to start.

We went for a consult with the Co School of Mines college (CO premier engineering school and where my other son goes). They thing my youngest will get around a $3000 scholarshp a yr....GREAT!

Sorry for lack of personals.....:eek::confused::(

Hi everyone

We had a great weekend, the sun shone and we spent two days walking up very steep cliffs (we did a 7 mile return trip one day and 5 the next) and basking in the sun on the beach. It was lovely. It's not long since our last holiday but this was a great pick me up! We also went mackerel fishing and caught 16 mackerel between the 3 of us!

Yesterday I just did some yoga to stretch my hips out after all that walking. Tonight, I start the kettlebell course. It will be interesting to see how it goes working out in the evening instead of during the day.

Lisa - sorry to hear about Maddy. I hope things pick up. How's the new car? Like it? I'm not a car person at all, you could buy a moon buggy and I wouldn't have a clue!

Murph - have you used the new med ball yet? I like using it for abs. Never had any Tracie Long stuff. Worth investigating, do you think?

Kathryn - I can't imagine my DH attempting a step DVD so kudos to yours for even trying. I'd probably injure myself laughing anyway.

Mary - so how are the legs today? Isn't that floorwork at the end an absolute killer?!

Well, I better go, helping DD with homework!!

Bye for now.

Hi everyone! Today was PUB, my arms are like noodles! Only my hamstrings are little sore from PLB yesterday, so good news! Ronne, sounds like a great weekend away, an you got your w/o's in too! Did you eat the fish? Lisa, enjoying the new car? We bought a new one this summer, a few weeks before the cash for clunker sale! Timing is everything! I am sorry to hear about Madison, will your old vet be back soon? Murphy, love new toys! Did you get to play with yours yet? Kathryn, hope you enjoyed your day off? If I am not being too nosy(just tell me if I am) what kind of business are you in? Well, clothes are screaming to be folded, (better than the children screaming!) Have a good night, Mary

Hey, just a quick post before I go and do STS Disc2. Maddy's not limping as much but after our walk this morning she's back to limping. Bless her heart. I start work monday, they asked me to start thursday but I put them off and they were fine about it. I have appts I need to go to thurs and fri.

Ronne, I not all that into cars either and when we buy we normally keep them 10-15 yrs. I either mistyped or don't know what year we are in, but it is a 2009, duh! You had me giggling at moon buggy though :)

Mary, I got me some good soreness going on in my glutes and hammies. Don't you love that feeling? We wanted to do cash for clunkers but our car didn't qualify....grrrrr....we did get a sweet deal though. What kind did you get? We are just Honda people through and through, got 3 in the driveway now :)

Murphy how far do you walk at lunch? I think 30-40 min of weights is good, don't beat yourself up too much!

Time to hit the weights and enjoy my last couple free days!

Hi All,

I need all of you to send exercise vibes my way. I could not get it in this morning and I really want to stick to my schedule. DH will be in late so hopefully, when he comes home he will talk over with the little ones so I can get some "mommy time." Has anyone else heard of this "mommy time"? I keep hearing about it but it is very elusive.

Mary - Still trying to play with my new stuff. I hope to have some good news for you tomorrrow! ;-)

Ronne - I like Tracie a lot, but she is completely different from Cathe. Tracie's dvd's do not have the same Cathe intensity level for aerobics or weights. She is not beginner level, just different. I think Tracie calls it functional fitness. I would rent before I buy. I think her website (Tracie Long Fitness) has her stuff on sale for $10.

Lisa - If I am alone and short on time, I try to do at least a 20 min. walk. If alone and tons of time, then 40 minutes. I sometimes walk with a partner and her time allowance dictates the schedule - usuall 30-40 minutes. There are stairs nearby and I recently started jogging up and down the stairs for some extra "umph". My partner hates the stairs but I make her do them anyway!

Hi Girls, Haven't decided what I am going to do today, need to get my head in the game. I better get there, maybe my head is with Murphy's! Murphy, this "Mommy time", I too am still searching for it! My DH is at the fire station, then works on his off days, I am here alone most of the time, If I find some I will send some your way! Lisa, we bought a Mercury Milan, My FIL worked for Ford so we are able to get some off, but we neede to buy in the Ford family! I use to have a Honda,(prior to marriage) loved it! Lisa, enjoy your last few days of freedom. Will it be a shock to your system working every day? My hamstrings are still sore, I do enjoy that feeling! A little odd aren't we? Ronne Kathryn how are you? I need to go pack lunches, w/o, homework, etc. before cross country. Murphy, I have been making my kids run the stairs, (along with myself) It is so painful it has to be good for us, right? Have a good night. Mary

Hi everyone! Today I'm only doing No Equipment abs because I won't have time for a full workout. The vet is back today so I have an appt for Maddy this morning and then another appt this afternoon to review our financial plan and then yet another appt this evening for my son's iPhone problem. busy, busy, busy....I feel like I"m getting on the merry go round.

Stairs....well, seems I'll get to walk stairs to my new office...I'm on the 3rd (top) floor. They already have me in blue pages (DH looked me up)...the reality is starting to set in.

Murphy, sending exercise vibes your way!

Hellos to everyone else, Mary, Ronne, Kathryn....did I miss anyone?

Hi everyone

Apologies in advance but this has to be a quickie ;)!

My kettlebell course still hasn't started - grrr! So I'm doing bits and pieces. I just got the new KCM's. I did the first Muscle Definition workout today. Only 40 mins, it didn't feel that tough though I did use lighter weights as it was my first time through. I think it'll be a good one for lighter days. These are my first KCM DVDs and I like her approach - very straightforward and encouraging.

My brother and family are coming to stay this weekend so there is major house-cleaning going on. It will be the first time they've seen the 'new' house. They arrive tomorrow, so there's dusting to do, bathroom to clean, beds to change, you know the drill.

Sorry for the lack of personals but I'm sure you'll understand! I probably won't get the time to check in tomorrow so hope everyone has a good weekend.

Quick post

Hi, everybody!

I missed you yesterday because our company (DH and I) are hosting a two-day training session for our salespeople and some of our trainers. We're launching our new program (Mary, we're in the corporate training business), and have about 20 people in from out-of-town (and state) to go through it.

Yesterday I did STS 37 (squat rack legs); today I did IMAX 3 and workout 3 from CoreMax. I'm maxed out! My legs are very sore from yesterday, so I don't know how I made it through my workout today. (Do you know the part where Cathe says of one of the intervals: "That was hard, but it wasn't as tough as it could have been so we're moving on...."? That's salt in the wound, because that down-up-down jumping jacks on and off the step interval is a killer, if you ask me!)

Ronne, good luck with the house guests. Even if it's somebody you love, it's still stressful and a lot of work, isn't it?

Lisa, did you start work yet? I've lost track of your status lately, with the crazy week I'm having.

Murphy, thanks for the additional info on Tracy's workouts. And I really understand about your lack of time. Some people seem to manage it, but I felt (and still feel) that I end up on the bottom of the list. My kids are getting old enough to take on a lot more responsibility. DD is doing well at that but DS (and DH!)... well, not so much. Is it a guy thing? Or just a "them" thing? I'm not sure. Well, try to fit in your workouts wherever you can because you need to take care of yourself. Remember: When Mom gets sick, the entire household falls apart.

Well, off to get something done. I hope I didn't forget anybody. Have a great day!

Hi All,

Thanks for all the exercise vibes. I got in a TLT this morning and used my new stuff. It worked out well - well, DH was up and wanted to talk to me while I exercised...I tried to focus but there were a few things that I missed or did not extend fully. Still, I am happy.

Everyone - So much is going on with everyone so best wishes that everyone gets done what they need to get done and that things go positively.

Hi everyone! Almost Fri. Yea! I was able to be off all summer, now back at work, (Lisa, you will soon remember!) So hard to work all week! I do like the paychecks tho! Anyway, today I did an Angie Miller, can't remember the name, very simple, got a little sweaty, enjoyed it! Murphy, my DH always wants to talk when I am working out, then it is kind of funny, he gets a little irritated with me and tells me I'm not paying attention! Always makes me laugh! Kathryn, I am impressed with you doing Imax3, I am too afraid of it! Like I will drop over dead! I really like Imax2 tho! Ronne, I have only been to one kettlebell class, they keep getting cancelled, hopefully next week I'll be able to go back! Have fun with your brother this weekend! Lisa, enjoy your last few days! How is Maddy? Pain-free yet? Well, need to get ready for cross country practice! Mary

Mary!

I know what you mean about DH talking during the workout... it's a tad distracting, isn't it? But it's worse when the kids come and start chattering away while I'm in the middle of a step or kickboxing routine. Hello! I need to listen to the cueing or I will be tripping over my own feet! (Children, I love you but go away while I'm working out! Please give me a break!)

Friday... so glad it's the end of the week. And why am I still up? I have to get up in six hours!

Hi everyone, I got in Imax 2....I almost fell off the step a couple of times . I just couldn't get my feet up high enough. it was a good workout though.

Kathryn, I don't do imax 3 much, just don't click with it, thought about it this morn but good thing I didn't since I couldn't get my feet up and they kept catching on the edge of the step....talk about tripping over your feet!

Murphy/Ronne, have a good weekend!

Mary, Maddy is still not walking well. We've basically ditched our morning walks. I took her for a short one this afternoon and she barely made it (I had to carry her part way). I can't believe she's this bad....we just ran Sat morning (in the drizzle)....maybe she pulled something and with the wet, cool weather it didn't help. I don't know...I'm feeling blue about it all. Her bloodwork looked good from the vet for her kidney values. She's holding steady with just low kidney deterioration.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I know no one comes her over the weekend, but I'm checking in to be true to myself. STS Disc4 completed! I'm trying to still workout my new schedule! Call me crazy but I've been up since 3am and exercised at 5 on a SATURDAY! That's rough going at weights that early, I was hungry!
