Fish Oil Capsules

ZT27

Cathlete
Does anyone here take them? If so, what brand do you use? I bought some yesterday from Vitamin Shoppe...The brand is Nordic Naturals. Also, does it have a funny taste when you burp, etc?? Thanks!

I take two a day and yes, I do burp up a fishy taste but usually only once right after I swallow them. I don't buy any particular brand.

I take Fish Oil Capsules as well and yes the fishy taste does come up when I burp. The taste doesn't last long so it's not so bad, for me that is. I use Duane Reade brand.

BTW garlic does the same thing--this I don't mind b/c I love garlic. Besides I like to blow my breath in dh's face when the garlic comes up:D :D :D. Nasty, yeah I know, but his feet stinks.

I had taken fish oil previously (I believe the GNC brand)and I didn't like the funny taste when I burped:eek: so I switched to Nature made flaxseed oil capsules. I'm pretty happy with those (no repercussions!)

i buy a HUGE bottle at sam's... i end up only taking 1 a day in the morning with my multi, calcium and glucosamines.... i'm supposed to take 2 more (each meal) but i ALWAYS forget!

yes... i burp fishy... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

:7 Too funny. Thanks for the laff. I understand why you were picked for resident comediene!(sp?)

NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

I get the Costco brand (Member's Mark) which is coated to prevent aftertaste. They brag about it on the bottle lid/label. I've never had a problem.

RE: NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

Hi!

I just wanted to let you guys know that if you burp up that fish taste or taste something funny if you are taking the liquid form, please throw it out, that means it's completely rancid!!!!!!!!!!! You are not supposed to taste anything really fishy when you take these supplements. I used to take other supplements and get that same taste until I started working with a holistic nurse and she taught me what to look for when choosing a fish oil supplement. I can't remember the name of the brand I now use (when I get home I will post it!)but I know ever since I started using this brand I have never burped up that nasty fishy aftertaste again. Rancid fish oil will do nothing for you!! Hope that helps:)

RE: NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

Hi guys,
I tried the fish oil capsules this morning, the Nordic whatever and I didn't have the fishy aftertaste AT ALL. It actually tasted slightly lemony. So far so good. Thanks for your responses, guys!

RE: NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

Sandy,
I'm going to puke. I've been taking fish-oil for 5 years and have always had the fishy burp. I'm gagging...that is so not right. I'm throwing my new bottle out!
Rancid fish oil ewwwwwwwwwwww!!!! x(

Really, no wonder I've been smelling other things besides the fish; in other places---naw just kidding.

All jokes aside, thanks for the indepth info. I will look into that.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND ALL.

RE: NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

Oh this is funny...so I go home and what brand do I have?? It's the Nordic Naturals, LOL!! I can't believe I couldn't remember at work...no wonder it sounded so familiar:+

ZT27 I am soo glad you didn't taste anything fishy!! It really is an excellent company. Yes it is probably more expensive than other brands but I would rather pay more for the good stuff than end up with rancid oil, ughhhh!!!

Reece, I know what you mean, just thinking about that makes me want to puke right along with youx( x(! If you are interested I believe this is the website: www.nordicnaturals.com

Oh Haydee, I SHOULD have known BETTER than to drink and read your comments at the same time...I almost choked, thanks!! LOL!!! You are hysterical!!!

I take the oil straight up because it's only a teaspoon and it has the citrus flaver but my nurse mentioned if you just don't want to taste it at all you can mix it into applesauce, or put it into your protein shakes and you won't taste a thing. She actually had me taste it in applesauce and I couldn't taste the oil AT ALL! Just throwing some ideas out there:D

RE: NO Fishy Aftertaste!!

Sandy- I went to the site. Can they send a catalog or is it strictly internet ordering?

Thanx for this info. I'm still grossed out and gagging. lol. Ughhh!!!

~Reece~

Wendy-
I'm no expert but I started taking them to help lower my cholesteral. It is really good for your cardiovascular system. They also help me stay ahmmm....regular... lol.
I notice that when I take them regularly I don't have dry skin and my hair gets the oil it needs.
I'm actually hesitant to eat fish and take the oils b/c of how polluted they have become with mercury. I don't recall the resource of that information so I can't give you exact details.

~Reece~

Reece, the Nordic Naturals is from Norway so there shouldn't be mercury in it. I don't really eat tuna or salmon due to mercury and I'm not finished having kids yet either.

I take the fish oil because it's supposed to be good for you and it's helping me to keep regular as well. I don't feel as bloated. I don't think it's a good idea for you to take it while pregnant. I stayed away from fish when I was pregnant. I did eat shrimp and lobster once in a while but tuna, salmon, bass, etc I stayed away. I don't know if it's a good idea taking the capsules while nursing if you're going to nurse. Ask your doctor. My doctor told me not to eat fish while pregnant.

I told my mother about the fish oil being rancid and she had the same reaction I had. She wants more info about Nordic Naturals. She wants the catalog. She orders a lot of vitamins through catalogs.

Wendy- Are you a nurse?

BTW- I did have a great workout today. CircutMax...gets me everytime.

~Reece~

Hi Reece!
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I just saw this post....I just went to the site and I don't see anything that mentions a catalog, however if you are hesitant in ordering online I am pretty sure they sell Noric Naturals at a Vitamin Shoppe if there is one nearby. If not, go to your local health food store and if they don't carry it they might well be able to order it for you.

I also use the ProEFA Liquid as well. I only take 1/2 teaspoon of this one and it contains Borage oil which is supposed to be excellent for women. I believe my nurse mentioned that not only is it excellent for joints, skin, and hair, but these oils are also good for the brain and helps with memory. Also it is supposed to help your metabolism as well. I can't remember the rest......I can email her and once she gives me the scoop I will pass it on to all of you.

Let me know what you end up doing!!
