Favorite Low Fat Snacks?

I just learned about the wonders of Frozen Bananas on another bulletin board - so there must be more great ideas out there - what are your favorite healthy snacks?? Mine is actually Pirates Booty from Trader Joes. But the frozen banana was great!

Pirates Booty?????? What is that? Is Trader Joes a brand name or chain of resteraunts?

My favorite healthy lowfat snack would be a small smoothie, made with fruit and skim milk and sometimes protien powder, but if you ask me tomorrow I might answer differently, I'm pretty fickle when it comes to favorite foods. ;-)

Sugar-free & fat free chocolate Jello pudding...the kind in the box for about 75 cents. Then sugar free fudgesicles, then fat free Cool Whip and sometimes fat & sugar free ice cream. There are some really good ones out there, Edy's being one of the best. And in my neck of the woods, Pierre's. :9:9:9:9:9:9:9 There are a lot more low fat snack that I like, but I don't DARE keep them around, because I can't stay out of them. Marshmallows and marshmallow creme are just two, alone with fat-free ice cream toppings. I just polished off my last jar of Smucker's (I used to work there and would get some freebies) Marshmallow topping last night.

Pretzels are my salty munchie of choice, followed by popcorn. My microwave doesn't handle the bags too well, and I don't know why. Microwave Popcorn doesn't pop fully....any suggestions?

Pirates Booty ... have no idea what that is, but I have to admitt that the name it quite "intriguing" !! ;-)

Let's see, fav low fat snack is a yogurt mixed with some Good Seasons Italian dressing mix, makes a great dip for raw veggies.

Gotta include my fav high fat treat ... Haagen-Dazs new Gelato ice cream in hazelnut. :-wow :-wow One pint lasts for months .. only eat a spoonful every now and then.

RE: Better Popcorn Popping Suggestion

Hi there-
Try putting a paper towel underneath your bag of unpopped popcorn in the microwave before popping it. I don't why it works, but it does!
Also, have you ever tried Jolly Time's Healthy Pop? There are about 220 calories per bag, w/ 22 grams of fiber per bag! It is really good stuff for "lite" popcorn. I even called the company to see if the 22 grams of fiber was accurate. They said yes, and gave me coupons for free boxes...
Happy crunching!

Thanks, I'll try that. Seems to me that I tried that brand, but never in my home microwave, but when I used it at work, it turned out OK. Time to buy it again. Thanks!:9:D

Love those ideas Honeybunch!

I agree with you - Edy's has the best fat-free and/or sugar free ice cream! Yum! I also love sugar-free fudgsicles, but I shouldn't eat them because I drink too much diet soda and that's a lot of aspartame. I also love pretzels for a salty snack, but have to watch portion sizes!
My favorite new snack grosses a lot of people out - prunes. I absolutely love them and snack on them all of the time. They are chewy and sweet. I like them cold out of the refrigerator.

PS Honeybunch, what Pierre's flavors do you like? I like some of them but prefer Edy's. I also like the Giant Eagle store brand of fat-free chocolate fudge brownie ice cream - it's great.

Pirate's Booty is a really yummy low fat/ low cal cheesy snack. It is found in health food stores some places too. Trader Joe's is a chain of really cool grocery stores they are mostly on the coasts - California and Boston area - also I think there may be some near Washington D.C. but not sure about that. If you have a Trader Joe's near you and you haven't been - GOOOOOOOOOO they are fantastic!

I'd get me some of that pirate's booty (just cause I like the name) except I'm a vegan (no animal products of any kind)...so, I'd have to say that one of my all time fave snacks, though it has a bad rep for being high in calories, is dried fruit, specifically pineapple and papaya. yummy!

I love Pirates Booty, have you tried the Fruity Booty? It's really good too.

I'm a smoothie person myself, so I love Nature's Path soy powders blended with soy milk and a little water to cut the sweetness. I find that filling and really yummy.

I also noticed that substitute ice cream treats like Rice Dream and Soy Delicious are now making more fun varieties of flavors and they do more bars in addition to the pints. They have carob coated ones, peanut and chocolate coated ones, sandwhiches, all kinds of fun sweet treats.

I also LOVE the Red, Hot and Blues by Garden of Eatin (I think that's the brand.) I swear they taste like Doritos but when you read the ingredients they're way way better. Blue corn chips with lots of yummy spices, and they're not too spicey!

I just had to give a second vote to prunes. It is on my top ten list, although I don't have them around on a regular basis because I eat too many at a time, and they "getcha goin" if you know what I mean! They are great to have one or two after a meal when you want something sweet. I also love dried and fresh pineapple. I just discovered white chocolate sugar free fat free pudding mix yesterday. It was great with a dallop of lite cool whip.
Happy Munching

YUMMMY! I love prunes, too, and the kids in my preschool are crazy about them, too :) Gotta start them early eating healthy, you know!

This month it's Edamames, fresh soybean pods. I buy them frozen & blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes. Great high protein, low fat snack. Also a great appetizer for entertaining.
The chain grocers carry them here, as do the health food stores & Trader Joes.

Haven't tried the Pirates Booty but will grab a bag next trip to Trader Joes.

Just an FYI they opened a Trader Joe's in New Jersey can't wait to go and try some Pirates Booty.

RE: Better Popcorn Popping Suggestion

The paper towel idea worked!!! I also heated water in a cup first to warm up the microwave....I'd read that hint before. Popcorn has fewer calories than the f/f-s/f pudding (120 fewer) so I'm going to try this for awhile.

Hi Abbe,

The Trader Joe's I go to is in Florham Park, NJ. There are also other locations in New Jersey: Marlton, Wayne, Westfield & Westwood. I was also surprised they have several locations in New York. Any one interested in seeing if there is a Trader Joe's by them could go to www.traderjoes.com.

P.S. I love the Pirate's Booty (they taste just like cheese doodles). The store is a great place to go.

RE: Better Popcorn Popping Suggestion

Glad to hear it!! Its such a waste to have all of those leftover kernels at the bottom of the bag, esp. when you are still hungry!

veggie booty

how ironic; I just read about the pirate's booty snacks here and just traveled from my home (Austin) to my parents home (Chicago) for a visit and my mother purchased a bag of 'Veggie Booty' for me. I had mentioned before that I am a vegan, and only have been for a couple of months, which my parents are taking time to get used to...which was why I was totally surprised (and thrilled) about the bag of Veggie Booty! Yummmmmy! I give it two thumbs up! (Kale never tasted so good!)
