Favorite fruit

Mogambo,
I have never tried Asian Persimmons, when are they in season?. I will have to look when I go shopping sometime, I always like to try new things, thanks.

Debbie:) :) :) :) :)
Have a good day

They're fall fruit. Here in NC, they are available in October and early November. They are only good when they are fully ripe, almost squishy. If they are at all firm, they aren't good at all. Maybe get the produce people to help you choose a few and show you how to tell when they're ripe. They become more translucent and soft. Don't get the American persimmons, as they can be really astringent when they aren't ripe.

My list would be too long (I can probably live on fruit) but my top ones are:
peaches, apples, bananas, cherries, and organic dark red strawberries.

Granny Smith apples are to me the purrrfect fruit. Very filling and take a lot of energy and time to eat.

And fresh juicy red cherries!

OK . . . I'm startin' to salivate here!

MMM, I'd love to try a real southern peach. The ones we get up here (OHIO) are usually trucked up from South America while unripe and are tasteless and pethy rather than juicy. :p

Seems like when I was a kid, peaches tasted better. I guess they didn't ship them from so far away. :(

oh man... i'm CRAVING fruit now. Wish i could go home and eat a nice juicy orange! Oranges (seedless navel) are my favorite fruit by far. Then strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, cantalope, honeydew, apples (definatly crisp ones), mangos... mmm

I second the notion that I could live off of nothing but fruit!!:9 :9 :9

Crappy midwestern peaches

I hear ya. I lived in Ann Arbor in the early 80s for grad school, having spent most of my life in NC. Never once was I able to find a decent peach, never mind a delicious one. I talked to people about that, but only people from the South really even missed them.

On the other side of the coin, it used to be you couldn't get a decent apple in NC. Nothing but mealy red and golden delicious, and some Rome apples in the fall. Now, it's not Michigan, but you can find a lot of really good apples like Fuji, Mutsu, Pink Lady, and Braeburn. Still, the Ann Arbor farmer's market was apple heaven.
