Energy Dip - Any Pointers?

Hi Everyone

I seem to have absolutely no energy just lately and as a result my workouts are really suffering.

I've been running a couple of times a week (2-3 x 5k) together with Cathe cardio/weight training (4x week). I've been doing this for the past 6 months with a recovery week every 4 weeks or so.

My eating hasn't changed in this time (clean eating) but my energy is so low at the moment. I'm reluctant to 'up' my carbs too much as my body seems to react badly and put on weight.

Has anyone any pointers on how to overcome this energy dip - especially as I have my 5k (3.2 miles) race in a few weeks and I can't seem to run more than 2 miles without giving up at the moment?

TIA
Andrea

I just started taking vitamin supplements and I noticed a HUGE difference in my energy level. My daughter and son take them as well and were amazed at how much better they felt too. I take Wheaties vitamins in which you take 4 that are included in each package. They are:
Multivitamin
Green Tea (for extra energy)
L-Arginine & L-Glutamine(for cardio support)
Extra Calcium

I get them at Wal Mart. They come in a box and cost about $11.00.

I also have this energy dip if I do not eat enough carbohydrates or if I havent been drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, or if I did a ton of exercise the previous day. I have noticed that CircuitMax is one workout that just wipes me out, BUT I love that feeling of accomplishment and those DOMS. If I know its the exercise just ease up the next day and the energy is back the following day.

Hi ,do you have any seasonal allergies ? Every year in the spring and the fall for a couple of months i get just wiped out feeling and its my allergies, just a thought ,something to consider,

I too seem to have these energy dips. AFter lookin at how much and how often I work out I figured it might be Overtraining burnout. So i took a few days off and it has helped. Granted I was sick when I took them off. WHich isnt to say I didnt work out but just cut way down. I also sometimes think that not seeing the results we want can make us think"oh why bother" and that causes me low energy. Good luck to you and I hope you will be back full force soon! I agree vitamins help.

Are you sure you're not anemic? If you are, it can really wipe you out. Also, if your eating is ok, you may just need a short break. Don't worry, you'll go back to exercising.

It could be a lot of things, lack of sleep, not eating enough complex carbs, overtraining, etc. If you modify all these things and you can't still get your energy level up then go to the doctor and get checked.

By the way, I was anemic about 5 years ago. The reason was that I decided to go vegan with no instruction whatsoever. There were certain food groups I needed to substitute with vegan ones and I never did it because I didn't like the flavor (e.g tofu) or I just didn't know how. With that and exercising my energy level took a nosedive. I still drink soymilk, but now I eat cheese, I eat white meat and fish and I eat lean red meat sometimes. I'm not anemic anymore. Not to say that if you go vegan you'll get anemia, but you need to include your basics: lean protein, complex (unrefined) carbs, and non-saturated fats in your diet. Vitamins are also a good idea. It is really hard to get all the daily vitamins you need with diet alone.
