eating after dinner

do any of you not eat a snack after dinner before bed? if you don't eat after dinner, did you notice a difference in your body comp doing so? how do you keep yourself from not snacking after dinner?
 
I usually don't have anything after dinner unless it's a fruit smoothie or small glass of light chocolate soy milk and only if I have it before 8 p.m. That gives me 2 hours before bed. That is my cutoff time no matter what. I only do that once or twice a week.
 
I've eaten a snack after dinner for years. I usually eat it between 8 and 9pm and go to bed between 9 and 10pm. Never had any problems. When I did a P90X rotation a couple years ago and leaned out more then I've ever been before, I was snacking on cereal most nights of the week!!!
 
Yup, same here! I snack on yogurt or fruit or crackers abotu and hour or so before bed and I as well never got any problem from it. :)
 
For the past couple of months, my kitchen has been closed no later than 8:30 pm. Sure I've been tempted, even got as far as opening the fridge. Then I tell myself out loud that if I want to lose the weight, I must stick to my eating plan. Lost 15 pounds doing that.
 
it depends. most days i just don't eat much during the day(esp with work and errands) so i will have some yogurt(sometimes with protien powder mixed), a can of low sodium V8 juice, or an apple. if i have some on hand and i am craving salty and crunchy cucumber slices with a sprinkle of sea salt. usually no less then 2hours before bed. i also do evening yoga or pilates so that helps curbs the cravings

I can't go to sleep if I am hungry. I always have a snack. I don't think its when you eat, its what you eat. If you stay within your calorie range there shouldn't be a problem no matter what time you eat a snack.

I think for some people it's a great tool to have a cut off time at night if they are tempted to eat and are not really hungry, however if you find that you are really (physiologically) hungry and not just bored or emotional eating, then you need to either eat more during the day/change eating times, or enjoy a healthy snack.

I have a VERY different work schedule (work nights at a hospital 3-4 nights a week). Some days I wake up at 10 am and eat first meal at noon and have dinner at 11 pm and go to bed at 2am. Other days I'm working so I have "dinner" at 11pm, snack at 3am, breakfast at 6am and go to bed at 8:30 am, wake up at 3pm, workout and then have first meal at 5-6pm.

I lost 80 pounds while doing this crazy schedule, so I definitely agree that it's more what/how much you eat than when you eat. Just my .o2. :D

I eat all the time! After dinner, during the night.... on and on! I eat a little bit, a lot of times during the day and night. Last night I was up at 1am and ate a peach and a bowl of cereal. I had eaten yogurt right before I went to sleep at about 10pm. Dinner (very small portions) was at 7pm.

While the psychological aspect of "not eating after dinner" might help some people, it's still about the total amount you eat, no matter when you actually eat.
 
I agree with what everyone has said about it not being so much about when you eat but more about what and how much. However, I am an emotional eater, and if I let myself snack after dinner, I won't quit eating all night. Therefore, after dinner, whether that be at 5 or 7 or 9 at night, I do not eat anything else. I do get hungry sometimes, but if I just drink some water and go to bed, I'm fine.

I think since I'm such an emotional eater, this works for me. However, I do also think if you're actually hungry, maybe you should eat a small snack. You might sleep better! Now, if only I could control myself.... ;)
