DVD player help, pretty please!

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a new DVD player, and I want one that will enable me to use the Mix 'n' Match feature of Cathe's DVDs. Does anyone know:

a) what DVD player feature will allow me to do that?

b) of a really good DVD player that is available in Canada?

c) what the heck an "upconverting DVD player" is, and why it is so hard to find DVD players that are not "upconverting"?

Thanks!

The "Mix and Match" feature that's on some of Cathe's DVD's (not many) doesn't depend on the DVD player, but is dependant on the DVD itself (you make choices from a menu).

Maybe what you really mean is a player that will allow you to mix and match different chapters from different DVD's?

If that's the case, you'll need a multi-disc player that allows you to crossprogram across DVDs (some only allow this with CDs: I guess manufacturers don't think about at-home exercisers, and don't see how cross-programming movies would be something anyone would want).

An "upconverting" player takes a non-HD DVD and converts the output so it's closer to HDTV quality (which is only noticeable if you have an HDTV).

Let me make myself clearer- my current DVD player does not allow me to select a number of chapters of one DVD that can be played in a row, according to my choice. Instead, I have to play one exercise, go back to the menu, select another exercise, etc. If I choose "Mix and Match" from the menu, it is the same as if I had just chosen "chapters". When I researched this on the Cathe site a long time ago, Cathe.com said that this was a function of the player, and that some players allowed this function and some did not. I can no longer find that information on Cathe.com, but it was there. So I am hoping someone can tell me what function of a DVD player allows someone to select a few chapters of one DVD to play in the order I choose.

Okay, so now I know it's the Workout Blender feature of Cathe's DVDs that I would like to use through my DVD player, NOT the Mix "n" Match feature. So let me ask again:

a) what DVD player feature will allow me to do that?

b) of a really good DVD player that is available in Canada?

I replied to your post at Ask Cathe with a detailed response that doesnt really address your need!

Not all Cathe's DVDs have the workout blender feature. If the DVD has the blender feature your DVD player should support it. It will appear as an option in the menu that you select with the remote. Unless your player is a very old model (and even then I cant think why it wont support it), it will "recognize" the Workout Blender option automativally and display it on the screen.

Unless you want to mix and match from across mutiple DVDs or mix and match chapters from wotjin a single DVD that DOES NoT have the built in workout blender option, you wont need another player.
