Does anyone have a California Closet?

I'm getting one installed in the beginning of October. I have what I call a 1/2 bedroom on my 2nd floor & I kind of converted it into a makeshift walk-in closet. I'd bought one of those cheapy wardrobe things (you know, w/the metal poles & canvas cover), & it collapsed on me 2 weeks ago (I can't even believe it lasted 4 years considering the volume of clothing I'd crammed in there). So now I have clothes piled all over the place upstairs b/c I have no place to put them.

I was planning on doing this in about a year or so, but I figured this was a sign that I should just go for it. I'm very excited even though I'm really not ready for it financially.

So, who has one & do you like it? These things are pretty darned pricey & I'm nervous--sometimes things look different in 3D than they do on paper.

Hi LauraMax. Three closets in my home were convereted into California Closets. One of the cloets is a walk-in and has a built-in wardrobe. It was lots of fun designing these closets with the consultant. We essentially doubled the closet space and have space to store luggage (on the top shelf), shoes, etc. I'm really happy with the installers and how clean and neat they were!

Enjoy!

I had California Closets do my master bedroom closet, which basically goes the length of one entire wall of my bedroom. I have sooooo much more storage capacity and the lay out perfectly reflects what I need in a closet. It was pricey and soooooo worth it. You'll be amazed when it's all done!

YES!!! I love my closets. I love all the "extra" stuff too. Belt rack, jewelry drawers w/the felt lining (not that I have a lot of that...ha ha!), dry cleaning or whatever rod, etc. You won't regret doing it. You can double your closet space with a nifty design. In our last house when we had the closets done, I did a double hang in my kid's closets. I made sure we had the closets done before we moved into our current house. It was such a mess having it done while we were living there, but we did all the closets the same day.

You won't regret it. They come out (or at least the did 3 years ago) and make adjustments for free. If there's something you're not happy with or want to add something.

Enjoy your new closet!:)

I have the California Closet in my walk-in closet in the master bedroom. I, like the others here, love mine! It is a pretty big closet, about the size of a small bedroom, and before I had the CC put in, it was a disaster. We even had an old dresser in there for drawer space.

Now I have drawers, shoe holes, jewelry drawer, dirty clothes hamper, short hanging, long hanging and lots of shelves. It has been so worth what we spent on it.

Enjoy yours! :D

You are hysterical Bill! :) I guess I have a Utah Closet...too many hangers and a floor full of shoes.

OK, now I really am excited! :) I'll be eating tuna from a can 3X a day for the next year, but I'll be able to find everything I'm looking for LOL.

You know, my house was built in 1870 & it's so small it doesn't even have a coat closet. All I have are two small closets--one in each bedroom. Now I'm wondering if I'll actually have a place to hang my coats instead of the stupid standing coatrack by the front door--that would be so cool!

I had never heard of these closets either-but i just did a search. They look really nice! What are there prices?

Well, mine's pretty basic--all I did were shelves w/doors (8 total shelves), shoe shelves (50 pairs worth! Whoo hooo!) & hanging rods (one small section of double hang w/2 shelves above, one section of medium hang w/4 shelves above & one section of long hang w/3 shelves above). Also I didn't get any of the beautiful finishes they have--I so wanted the walnut but b/c of my budget I went w/the basic white particle board, & I didn't get any tie or belt racks, jewelry holders, special handles for the doors, etc.

So, the room is about 6' X 8' & it's costing me somewhere in the neighborhood of $1700.

Good to know you can add on w/o paying for the service in the future. I guess I'm smoked on the finishes but who knows, I might want to do nicer doors or rods or something once my bank account recovers. :p

Hey Lauramax,
well thanks to this post we are now setting up an appt. for our new house we are building!!I am just waiting for a call back from the designer.I was wondering-did they give you prices to compare between the white particle board and the wood ? i am wondering how much higher the wood is??well i cant wait for our meeting!!:)

That is so exciting Smiley! I didn't even ask for pricing on wood--they have a ton of different finishes but you know, particle board is like the cheapest stuff you can buy, it's even cheaper than plywood.

Let me know how things work out--I'll be interested to hear the pricing on the wood finishes.....:)
