Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesome Ca...

I will be switching my order (Thanks you Step N'Motion!!:) ) from video's to dvd's, all because of that darn "music louder" option. What a great idea!! One of my comfort vids, that I never use anymore but keep for sentimental reasons, is...........no laughing!!......Cher with Kelli Roberts. The main reason is the music. She has great music, and you can just turn it up and focus on the music. Especially when you learn the routine. Like I said, sentimental too, it was the first step tape I ever did.

Anyhoo--I went out and got a DVD player, and I want to make sure I got the right one. It is a Sony DVP NC-615. I asked specifically if it was programmable, but the girl had no idea what I was talking about. (Sears!}( grrrr.....) I can take it back if it is not right, so I am asking my most knowledgable friends here for feedback. Does anyone have this, and will it work?

I wish I could afford a recorder, but boy were those pricey!

Thanks ladies, I look forward to hearing what you think!

Hi! I don't know if your DVD player is programmable, but I wanted to share my experience with you.
When I bought my DVD player it was because Cathe was coming out with her CTX series. I didn't know what I needed, but I knew I wanted one that could hold more than one DVD at a time. When I realized that "programmable" players were the ones to get, I felt like I had made a huge mistake, because although mine was a 5 disc player, it was only programmable withing each disc, not across discs. (In other words, I could program different segments from one disc, i.e. parts of Power Hour with parts of MIS or BodyMax, because they are on the same disc, but I couldn't program parts of Power Hour to play interspersed among parts of Cardio Hits or a CTX disc, because they are on separate discs.)
After a few days of being bummed out about this, I realized that it actually would take longer for me to sit there pressing buttons to program all these different parts from these separate discs than it would take to just go to the main menu and click on the segment of the disc I wanted.
I am a huge fan of mixing parts of different Cathe workouts, and I NEVER use the program feature of my player. Even if I could program across discs, I wouldn't do it. It's time consuming, and you have to figure out the title and chapter number of each segment you want...blah blah blah! It's so easy to just go to the main menu of each disc and play whichever part you want.
With Cathe's new discs, we won't even need to do that. I think the Blend feature is going to delete all the hassle!

Anyway, just wanted you to know that you don't have to have a programmable DVD player!

Wendy

Hi Wendy, Same thing for me. I love being able to program across different DVDs which I can do on my DVD player. I did it a couple of times until I realized it was just as quick to just switch DVDs manually as I go. Yes it was nice to not have to stop and switch, but it took a long time for me to program the workout I wanted to do. I love that the new workouts have all the premixes available. And my favorite option is going to be the louder music option.

Hi Dani!

I agree totally with Wendy & Kelley. I have what I THINK is a programable DVD player but never did take the time to figure out how to do it. Long story short, changing from DVD-to-DVD is sooo quick I never took the time to figure it out even later. I just skip around to what I need and it is done in seconds. You can't go wrong, even with a one-disc player. Have FUN and yipeee for you for making the change. You are going to love your DVD options.

Actually, with Cathe's latest videos (Intensity Series, and now Blast Series), you don't need a programmable player to get a lot of bang for your buck. The premixes are excellent! (In fact, I've found that on the Intensity Series, there are so many chapter points that it soemtimes makes programming your own workout more difficult! I tried to program my own mix, and I had to program in over 20 chapters, but my DVD only programs 20! I would have had to program two workouts, then do them back-to-back. Much easier to just stick with the premixes!)

If you get a multi-disc player because you want to mix-and-match segments from multiple discs, be sure it is one that is programmable for DVD's over multiple discs. I've heard that many aren't. And even some that are programmable from disc to disc when using CD's aren't when using DVD's. (There is a somewhat-outdated list of suitable multi=disc DVD players at www.videofitness.com )

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

Thank you, and I guess that is what I am looking for....something that will cross over from disc to disc. I could not believe how little the girl knew who was helping me. I asked her to maybe find a manager who had more understanding of the players, and the guy she brought just read off the box. I hate when someone does what I can do, which is simply read the description. You would think that a manager of a department would have some knowledge of the items they sell. Anyway, I got it, and I hope it works. If anyone has this player and can answer or respond to what they like/dislike, that would be wonderful. Regardless, I have 60 day to return it and hopefully the DVD's will be here in the next 60 days. I think we're getting close!!

I also found the High Step yesterday, with a Cathe video, but I didn't buy it. I have mine preordered, and Cathe's was actually less than this store was selling it for. It was hard not to have instant gratification though. I feel like I am waiting for so many things!! Worse than Christmas for a kid!!

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

I do have the exact same model and yes, it is programmable. I used that feature exactly once! As mentioned above, it almost takes longer to program the darn thing than it does to just hit "disc skip" and then choose what I want from the next DVD. I've had absolutely no problems with this DVD player (except it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to turn on the subtitles for a foreign movie! There's a button on the remote called "subtitle" you have to push. Doh!)

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

Thanks so much!! The only problem I have had to solve so far is getting a modulator to attatch the silly thing to my t.v. Seems my tv is a tad too old and doesn't have the right connections on the back for hookup. Another 30 bucks, but the more I see on the dvd's, the more excited I get, and I still think it is worth it to make the switch. I love my music and I tend to blast the tv volume just to hear the music more.

Thanks for the response!

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

Before you spend extra money for DVD hookups, you may want to try hooking it up through your VCR. I bought my mother a DVD player for Christmas last year and her tv also did not have hookups. My husband hooked it up through her VCR. I think the VCR has to be on for the DVD player to work, but it is no big deal and could save you some money.

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

Same here as Wendy, Kelly, and Gretzky. Make sure you didn't pay big bucks for an option you end up not using. If I had it to do over again I would have got a single disc player. These technology items need to be replaced often so why pay for it as though you will own it for a lifetime? Like a Hi-Fi (remember those?)

If your collection of owners manuals on appliances and gadgets weighs more than one pound, buy the cheapest and replace it with another cheapie when it breaks. My opinion. Or, buy the cheapest player with the most expensive 3 year maintenance contract.

I just consider all my stuff (my toaster, DVD player, etc.) as long term rentals anyway.;-) :p :7

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

You definitely don't need a programmable player with the Intensity series and shouldn't with the Body Blast Series. Most of the time, I do my workouts with Cathe playing the DVDs on our Xbox, and it works fine.

Dani, I love this tape too! I've just ordered a new DVD player and TV and that means I won't have any room for my video player, which will have to go into storage until we buy a house. I wish Cher would put both her tapes on DVD - they're still great workouts and the step workout is my favourite. It was the first workout tape I ever bought and I've replaced it several times because I wore it out. I still do it every now and then for the same reasons as you - it's one of the few workouts with music I actually really like :)

RE: Did I get the right DVD player to go with my awesom...

Well, after a second trip to Reno, I have come home with an all in one television! I don't know if that is a good thing or not, but it was the only choice I could make for the time being. It is warrentied up the wazoo, and the bonus was that it was actually on clearance. I went in looking to buy this model possibly, and there it was deeply discounted.

Bottom line, and you ALL helped more than you know, is that my tv was too old and there was no way I could hook up the new DVD player, the VCR, and all the wires and cables, and not spend more and more only to have a big mess, which my husband was not thrilled about. Not to mention that space is a premium.

So I ended up with a Toshiba flat screen (bigger screen too!!) with nice surround sound, that has the DVD and the VCR built in. I hate the idea of an all in one for obvious reasons but I had to try it out. It will play cd's as well, and overall I am happy. I will see how I like one disc once the Cathe DVD's arrive. I can always add a player because this one has the necessary plugs i.e. it is not a dinosaur tv:)

I will be working out this morning with a much bigger Cathe and crew, who I am certain will be more funny, and more life size than ever! I can't wait to hear how it sounds!

Thanks all for your input, I read each and every response and especially appreciate my Cher buddy's comments!
