Damage Control

I had Friday off and have worked out Friday/Sat/Today! Thursday I walked around the lakes, Friday was legs, Sat was STS D16 CST, and today was STS D18 back & biceps plus a 3 mile walk. I still need to mow the lawn and start on some fall clean up in the back yard. Busy, yes, but the temps are in the 70's and so enoyable.

I love juicing, the fresh juice is so good for you. It is a lot of work and the juice has to be drank in 3 days. If you want to be able to have it daily, then you need to juice every 3 days. It's a lot. When I do it, I usually take some to my son since he drinks it. It's good for immunity, digestion and inflamation.

It was our 38th wedding anniversary this last week. We out to lunch on Friday and it was so nice!

We meet with Fidelity guy next month. Hopefully we are still on track for me to retire in 2 to 4 years. I think we are, but we do have some questions for him.

It's about time for Dan to get some relief. My MIL recovered quickly from her hip replacements and I'm hoping the same for Dan. It will be nice for you to be off to take care of him and get a nice break from work.

Well we've been in full "get ready for surgery mode" with DS2 and his girlfriend coming the following week. Lots of shopping and stocking, lots of cleaning and arranging the furniture. I think we're ready! Both cars have been worked on and are in good shape. It will take about 3 months recovery. Dan has been practicing not bending over.

In between I'm just doing weights twice a week, Devi daily, and walking some. My throat has been sore and I'm wondering if it's the silent reflux...still using the daily pill. It's so frustrating. I got my hair cut shorter at last visit and am probably bringing bangs back. The goal is just to have it easier and let the curls go. I look at pictures of me when I was like 6 and I'm going back to that! It's so much easier. It's longer in the back than I want, but I'm doing it in stages so it's not so shocking. The cutting of the bang area was traumatic enough at last visit.

Going to see the Musical: Mystic Pizza today. I'll leave here at 11:30 and get home around 6. So it's pretty much all day between getting ready and driving up and back. It's a new musical with sounds from the 80's and is such a nice distraction from finding a raised toilet seat, a pillow to put between your legs, and the perfect grabber/reacher tool!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

We are past the hip surgery! Dan had to be there at 5:45 AM on Friday. So we were up at 2:30. He was first on the table which was nice. We got home about 4 PM. He's sleeping downstairs on the recliner and walking really well with the walker. We got in the house which was two steps, but he's waiting to go upstairs for a bit.

I started yesterday with 20 minute upper body, Devi, and a decent walk. The leaves are changing and it's gorgeous albeit a bit cool. Today will be 20 minute lower body, Devi, and cleaning. I'm also planning on making some pumpkin chocolate chip breads. One for us and one for when Aaron is here.

Mystic Pizza was fantastic! Lots of Cindy Lauper, the Bengals, and Huey Lewis. It was fun. This month we're going to see The Bodyguard which has Whitney Huston's music. After that we don't see anything until March. I'm glad I found someone to go with. Her husband doesn't enjoy shows either.

Alright! What have you been up to? How is the family? How are your workouts going?

Let me know!

Beth

Sorry I've been MIA. Just working alot. I had to work Thursday night until 1:30 am. My body just does not like those night hours. It makes for a long day when I start at 6am. We had a re-org, no one was cut so that was good. The've re-arranged the teams a bit, I'm staying where I was. I should be good for at least a year-I'm hoping anyway. We are meeting with Fidelity on Tuesday. We'll see how things look regarding me retiring and when that can happen.

My workouts have been hit or miss. I usually get at least one weight workout during the week and then on the weekends. Otherwise I just get out for a 3 mile walk on most days. The temps were great last week-in the 70's. This week though we are back into the mid 80's. I'm so over the heat.

Jerod had been looking for new car. He's been driving the Rogue which is mostly working out okay. Not much else going on around here. I have grocery shopping this afternoon and probably some laundry, if I'm so inclined. :)

Glad Dan seems to be recovering well so far. It will be nice to have your son for a visit too. You will get in some good workouts during your time off. Your shows sound like so much fun, such good music!

I hope the Fidelity meeting goes well and you can retire at 62! I'm using up my PTO right now. At this point, I may ask for an extra week here in October. Dan has to go back for his checkup on the 21st. It's so nice just being home!

I'm all for two weight workouts a week. Are you doing total body? Yesterday I did a 30 minute upper body and abs and then Devi. I vacuumed and did wash as well as all the stuff Dan needs and was tired last night! Today is putting the wash away and mow the grass. I don't know if I'll do any legs-have to see how the time and energy are. I didn't work out yesterday until 3 and then had to shower and go to the store to get meds. I need to pace myself better.

Aaron and Katie arrive Saturday! Not sure if Dan will go with me to pick them up. Check out: Seven Springs Retreats in the Smokey Mountains: https://www.sevenspringsretreats.com/retreats for next Spring. Let me know what you think! There are two two day and one three day retreat. Other than this place, I've not found much else. It's pretty expensive, so I'd be open to going to a destination and then trying to find some yoga there or honestly, just doing Devi in the room like we did in Arizona! What an amazing time we had there.

Off to my day-

Have a good one!

We spent a few days up in the mountains and one of our friends, his wife and their daughter came. It was so nice to have someone to visit with. It sounds like they are going through a rough patch in their marriage, that makes me sad. Hopefully it will all work out. I need to build back up my PTO, since I took this additional time off.

I walked a lot while we were up there, then we got home I was able to workout everyday. This past week I did weights on Sun/Mon, walked T/W/F, Sat was lower body, and today was full body 8x8. I'm really enoying this months rotation. It's called Full Body Strong and most of the workouts are full body. If the weather is nice, I try to walking also.

I think we should just a pick a location where we can do activities on our own. Sedona was great, hiking and site seeing during the day and the festivities at the hotel in the evening. Everything I look for ends up showing San Diego and Arizona for the best destinations in April in the US. I still think Tennessee is good spot too. I've never been there. Florida is an option also, the humidity is horrible for my hair. What about Myrtle Beach? I've never been there either, and April is shoulder season so it's less expensive. I'm sure we will find something.

We need to get our estate plan in place and few other ongoing things before I can retire. I'm telling you, it cannot come soon enough.

How was your visit with Aaron and Katie? What do you think of her? Any word on a wedding? I hope Dan is doing well with his recovery. I'm sure you are enjoying the time at home.

Hi. I'm considering raking as cardio. It gets my heart rate up! I've been pretty busy keeping the house, yard, Dan, and myself in order. He's doing really well and started using a cane today! That means he can carry things for himself a lot easier. He's gaining daily. Only thing that is odd is the amount of edema still present in his operated leg and in the other foot. We've been elevating as much as he can. Friday is our next appointment so we'll see what his hip team says.

I finally did some weights this weekend. I did chest and back yesterday and legs today. I'm planning to do Shoulders/arm/abs tomorrow and then my goal is lower body Wednesday and Upper body on Thursday. I have more time at home now I'm driving to work now. So we'll see how the first week goes!

Our visit was wonderful. I drove up to pick them up and then we came home and basically played games, watched soccer, and ate during their visit. We did do some hiking and walking and they went to the gym/pool/hot tub once. We ate dinner out on Friday night and it was our town's homecoming parade. It was a small town treat for Katie! We're not planning on going out this year at Christmas so this was great. We play the game: Ticket to Ride. Do you know it?

Nice to catch up! Have a great week,

Beth

Oh yes, I raked and mowed yesterday after my weight workout and 3 mile walk. It definitely counts as cardio. I was off the past 3 days and worked out everyday. I hate that my work schedule interferes with my workouts. I tend to get 3-4 days of lifting in and walks on the other days.

Did I tell you I got one of those vibration plates? You can use it 10 mins at a time, twice a day. I'm only at 2 minutes at a time twice per day. If I'm not careful, it set's off my vertigo. I keep it at a low setting for 2 minutes. I will try to increase to 3 minutes. I haven't noticed anything drastic, but it definitely helps with soreness after heavy lifing. I think it removes all that lactic acid from the muscles and helps with recovery.

I've been dealing with ENT issues my whole life. They are finally going to do an MRI in January. From what they can see in the office, they can't find the source of the fullness in my ear or stuffy nose. I have to use this nasal rinse with a medication added to it for 8 weeks. If I am traveling over Christmas, they will see me to put a little hole in my ear drum to see if that helps when flying. I'm very nervous about the MRI as I am claustrophobic. She will prescribe valium for the procedure. Just put me to sleep.

I'm considering going to visit my son in VA for Christmas. He has Thanksgiving plans already, so he won't be coming home. I think the girls will both be gone, one is going to the bahamas/carribean etc with a friend and the other is going to Oregon with her Mom and boyfriend and his kids. Trying to see if we can do Christmas with them the weekend before, then David and I can go to Oregon. Oh, I mentioned to my SIL last year that I wanted to stop drawing names for Christmas. We stopped with my family a few years ago. I still want to buy for my great nephews-Christmas is for the kids anyway. Well, she finally agreeed with the exception that she will buy for her Mom. She always did even after we started drawing names-it really bugged me. Not that she was getting a gift for her mom, I felt it belittled the gift that came from the person that drew her name. I felt like she should give it to her at a different time. Yes, it really bothered me. She broke the rules on drawing names, but never said anything to anyone.

This re-org at work has me worried. Not sure what will happen after March when this big project is supposed to be over. Crossing my fingers I keep my job. As much as I want to retire, we are just not there yet. David's 401/457 could fund 1 year including insurance, not sure how to cover the other years until 65 without putting too much stress on my portfolio. We want to save that for after 65. I spend way too much time on yahoo finance watching my portfolio and seeing what the market is doing day to day. We may just reach out to our financial advisor and have him run the numbers in case the worst happens. I don't want to have to find another job if I don't absolutely have to. I want to get a second opinion too.

I'm so glad your visit went well. I'm sure Katie had a great time. There is something to be said for small town charm! It sounds like Dan is coming along nicely. Swelling can last for a long time after surgery. I'm not familiar with Ticket to Ride. I'll check it out though. I wished you lived closer, sometimes I just need to vent.
