Cutting down on cardio & seeing better results-does this make sense?

Hi Cathe. I have had to cut down my cardio by about 50% over the course of the past few weeks. I have been having a problem with my knee and haven't wanted to push it. I have however, been able to keep my strength training the same, if not increased it, making modifications for my knee.

I don't know if it is my imagination or not but I feel stronger and my muscles seem more defined. Does that make any sense? At one point I was doing cardio between 5 & 6 times a week not only to burn fat, but because I enjoyed it as well.

Is it possible that I don't need all that cardio? Also, the cardio I have been doing has been more interval, like IMAX 2 and Cardio & Weights and Boot Camp vs. Rythmic Step and Step Blast. Maybe less but more intense is better for me?

Thanks, Melissa

Not Cathe, but wanted to chime in here. I've had really, really good results since cutting down on cardio. I'm lifting heavy 3 days a week and in the last 2 weeks I've dropped 1.5% in bodyfat. I was astounded when I measured today!!

If I were trying harder to lose, I'd definitely keep lifting 3 times a week and probably do intervals 2 other days.

Keep up the great work!

Jamie

Hi Jamie. I appreciate your chiming in! I have been struggling with my weight for forever it seems and I just can't get over the fact that this could be the answer that my body is looking for.

I'm interested to see what Cathe has to say since I just can't seem to wrap my brain around it! :)

Take care and you keep up the great work as well!!!

Me too. I see amazing results when I lift heavy and cut back on cardio. Magic. I love lifting, so it is great news for me.

Not Cathe, but what I notice with my own experience is that whenever I switch it up every 8-10 weeks or so I get over a hump and my body fat goes down and so does the scale. I then get stuck and then I either add more cardio or less and more weights. I have a feeling your body is just responding to something different. Great news for you!
