Cute stray cat story

A friend of mine had a really fat stray cat hanging around her yard for a few days. It kept trying to get in the house and after 3 days it seemed to be quite frantic. The cat slipped in one day while she was carrying in groceries so she finally gave in and let it scout out the house. But then it hid under their entertainment centre and wouldn't come out. It finally emerged in a day and they noticed she was no longer fat! They fed her and she disappeared under the entertainment centre again! They thought this was strange but it was another whole day before they realized she had had kittens under there! 4 of them!

Moral of the story: Be careful who you let in your house!

Wow - what a neat story! If that happened to me, I'd be in big trouble because DH knows I would want to keep ALL of the kittens and the momcat! :p I just have a soft spot in my heart for kitties.

Me too!, I would end up keeping them all. I'm surprised she didn't hear them being born. I had a pregnant cat once and she had them under my bed. She was screaming the whole time she was giving birth.

We let a stray have her kittens in our house years ago. Within six months, her and two of her kittens all had another litter! I'd never had cats and didn't realize how soon they come into heat!!! We had 17 cats/kittens at our house!

That's a great story!! Hopefully if they don't keep them, they can find good homes for them. And definitely get the mama cat spayed!!

We had a kitten for a short time. I remember one day ds was SOOO upset because he thought the kitten escaped from the house somehow! We finally found it hidden behind a speaker in our entertainment center.

Not a very cute story at all, unless all the kittens find a safe, loving and forever home. I'm a firm believer in spay/neutering too.

Have no fear a friend with a farm is taking all four - when they are old enough. They may not lead the pampered life of an indoor cat but they'll be warm and fed. I forgot to ask if they were going to keep the mother cat or not!

Oh Trish!!! I hope they do. Poor thing! Can you guess I'm such a sucker for defenseless creatures? Yes, humans included!

Anyway, farm cat's can put in a hard day's work just like anyone else for that matter. But as I posted on another thread, I have had painful lessons with domesticated cats & coyotes. So I try not to think of it. Well, life is life.

This man was arrested in Texas recently for drowning some kittens, & there was an editorial about how at one time it was "appropriate" to do this to control the cat population. So, who knows what will happen to him. I just would like to see more education about this problem.

I participate in a program here in my metroplex area, to capture feral cats in a cage, take them to the humane society or participating vet for spay/neutering & then after about a half's day recovery, re-releasing them to their familiar territory. At least, they won't reproduce any further offspring.

I also wish that people would realize there are so many great homeless friends out there that would like to meet you. You don't always need a kitten!!!!

I have several pets, mind you. I don't exactly chum around with all of them. But I would never, ever, oust them from their home, "territory" just because of my selfishness.

Awww, I have a soft spot for kittens too, which has partly spawned my drastic decision to quit my career of 10 years and go to veterinary school. When I was working at a humane society a few months ago I heard faint, tiny squeaks and couldn't for the life of me figure out where they were coming from. Turns out one of the cats had kittens in her cold, small metal cage! I took mom & kittens home. Unfortunately one of the kittens was deformed and died at 4 days old, but the other three thrived and a wonderful couple adopted all three of them together! The mom was a hoot...beautiful cat...and she was adopted too.

The animal population can get out of hand very quickly, as you realize from first hand experience! I just gave a presentation on spaying/neutering for one of my classes and am a strong proponent of it. Also, it is very sad having worked at a humane society how many wonderful animals are without homes. I personally will always adopt pets from shelters or take in strays.

Make sure he has them spayed and neutered! Many times, "farm cats" aren't, and that really adds to the cat overpopulation problem.
