Crazy! Diet pills in emergency?

Not able to do cardio and have a beach trip on July 4th, I have no way of losing this weight in time. It may be less than a month before cardio comes into play. I have never been for diet pills and believe in doing it the natural way, but what other way is it? There is no way I can lose 20 pounds by then with no cardio.

Another question is I am on mood stablizers and don't know if there is a safe one. Is there anyone who could give me some information or advice?

I hate thinking of taking pills, but I really don't see any other way.

Please help!

Kim -
Please don't take the diet pills. You are right to do it the natural way, and IMO, it's simply not worth risking your health just to look good in a bathing suit. Eat clean, and work whatever exercise in that you can - walking, yoga, pilates, whatever works right now. I just don't think a vacation can be considered an emergency.

I agree with SRP. Don't do it. There's no such thing as a safe diet pill IMO. And with you being on other medications, why risk it? Is it so important to lose wt that you risk your overall health and maybe even your life? I know that sounds extreme, but it does happen sometimes. Think about it, put things into perspective. Go as clean as you can with your eating and when you can add the cardio do it that way.

Well ladies I will not be taking the pills which I knew wasn't a good idea. I went to the pharmacist and he said that wasn't a diet pill for me to take with my medication. Okay I knew all of this but I'm panicking! I appreciate you giving me your opinion and good advice. I guess I will settle for I can do, but looking good in July means alot to me.

Thanks for your help:)

Dear Kim,

I agree with the other ladies. Eat clean, drink plenty of water, and eat those veggies!

What you might ask your Pharmacist or Doctor about is a protein drink that my Pharmacist approves of, and I take medication, although not what you take. Still, medicine is medicine.

The best one, I've been told, is SpiruTein, and it comes in many delicious flavors. It's natual, and packed with all kinds of good vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fiber. Even Papaya to aid in digestion.

This is just a suggestion. It works fantastic for me, and I lost alot of weight using it with salads, fruit and chicken or fish. Please make sure with your Pharmacist first, though.

I just thought I'd share that with you. I hope it works out. I'd love to know! In any event, have a wonderful vacation. Diet pills are not a healthy way of doing things, and to have fun, you have to feel good. Feeling good starts by being as healthy as you can be.

Good Luck!!!

Can you lift weights? Lifting weights will not only burn some calories, it will also increase your lean mass (a great thing of course).

If you can lift weights...then I would lift and drop calories. You should be able to lose some weight, even without the cardio. Tons of bodybuilders do it all the time.

Find out your caloric intake for weightloss (20% less than maintenance) and go from there!

good luck!

I'm glad you've decided not to take the pills. I think you'll feel better about yourself in the long run, know that you lost weight the healthy way, even though it may not come off in time for the beach. Take care!

I'm glad you won't be taking the diet pills, even though it is mostly, it seems, because they would conflict with your medication.

If you can do weight work, think about doing circuit-type workouts, where you move quickly from one exercise to another with only enough break between exercises to change weights and get set up. Workouts like Slim Series (by Beach Body) are based on using these type of high-rep, low weight circuit workouts to burn fat and have somewhat of an aerobic effect.

Also, watch your diet carefully (not as much fun as cardio, perhaps!) without going to extremes.

And go out and find some beach wear that flatters your body.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I feel kind of silly for wanting to take pills considering I am totally against them! I guess I can do the best I can with what I have to deal with.

Hey Kathryn, I think I will try those circuit workouts.

Thanks again

Maybe consult a nutrionist and find out how to get the weight off without the exercise. Have them give you a specific plan.

It IS possible to lose that amount of weight without cardio before July4, but your eating has to be real good. Losing weight is all about what goes in your mouth. The exercise is really an added bonus. People can exercise all day and night and not lose weight if eating is out of control.

Trying to lose weight just for a vacation is never a good idea - what are you going to do when you get home? Let yourself gain it back? Lose is slowly - 2lbs. per week and keep it off - at that rate, if you start now you can still lose the 20# by 7/4.

You said you can't do "cardio" - can you still walk? You can do lots of walking and burn calories - proof is the success of folks who wear pedometers and lose weight by trying to get 10,000 steps per day.

I'm glad you're not going the diet pill route, too! You might want to read "Eat To Live" (I got it from my library.) There is a 6-week plan for "aggressive weight loss" (I love that - AGGRESSIVE!). It is very strict but with plenty of water and a good workout plan from the other posts, I think you could do it!

that book sounds interesting. I have heard about it around here but never checked into it. Heck, I haven't been to the library in so long this may be a good thing!;-)
