complex choregraphy or not so much?

I like the tough stuff, how about you all? Does anyone do Patrick Goudeau? I LOVE his stuff, it's hard & kind of dancy - but really fun. If you haven't tried it, you should. He sure sweats when he's doing it! Question: Who likes the difficult moves & who likes the easier stuff? I find I get a better mental challenge with the tough stuff. And... Who likes it broken down & who doesn't? Previews or Not? Like IMAX. I like the IMAX ones, I get bored when Cathe breaks it down.

I don't like complex choreography. I like to concentrate on more straight-forward, athletic moves, and not have to think too much (I get enough of that in other areas of my life, I don't need it in a workout).

I like Imax 1 and 2 style cuing: no breaking down the moves, but good cuing that helps you get them the first time around. For me, Imax 3 had a fatal (for it!) combo of ultra high impact (which I could modify) and more complex choreo, or at least a lot of pivoty moves, and wasn't as well cued as the others.

I'm another one for straightforwardness. I like variety, but I like to keep it simple. On the other hand, sometimes when you are so focused on learning the choreography, the workout goes faster.

I'm with you guys. I just don't like the complex choreography. I have never liked pure step, probably for this reason.

One of the great things with cathe there is so much variety - something for everybody :)

I have been out of commision for a long time...just read this and and to add that I LOVE the hard stuff. I actually like when I don't get it the first time. It gives me something to look forward to for the next workout. I don't like when it is broken down on video but if I am in a live class that is a whole different story;-)

I can handle some complexity and like to grow into new workouts. I've found that if I get it the first time, in the long run I don't use the workout much. I get Seasun's choreo but I haven't figured out Franny Benedeto's All Out Step and Hi/Lo. I need to invest some time to the workouts to get acquainted with her style.

Patrick Goudeau's stuff looks very complex, my brain AND feet would be tied up in knots!:+

To some degree I can. I can't deal with too crazy over the top or I'll end up w/ step imprints on my face & not a very good w/o to show for it ;) I'm a klutz by nature!

Live with sincerity, love with passion, and dance like you mean it.

I like complexity if it's well queued and isn't on the ultra-high end of intensity. I agree with Kathryn on Imax3...it was too much.

I really like Rythmic Step, I think it's broken down just enough to get the moves and the intensity is in a range that I can do the pivoty moves without feeling like I'm going to tear something in my knee.

This is probably a bad practice, but I never preview a workout, I just start doing it.:)

I like the more complex stuff, even tho' it takes longer to learn it. It keeps the workout from getting boring, and that's REALLY important to me. I have a lot of workouts sitting there collecting dust because I got bored with them, and that's why I have 3 of Goudeau's DVD's waiting for me to learn! I'm very excited about that! He IS a stitch, isn't he?!

Imax 3 really grew on me - it's the one I grab the most when I want intervals.

I also like the complex choreography. It is frustrating at
first, but once I get it down it gives me such a good feeling
of acomplishment.

I definitely prefer the more athletic, straight forward, intense cardio. I never thought I was choreographically challenged until I tried some of Cathe's step and those workouts probably aren't as choreographed as some. If I really worked at it I would probably do better, but it's just not my thing.

I looooove complex choreography! I do Patrick, but mostly his dance workouts. I traded B.E.S.T. but have Step My Way. I also do Seasun Zieger and Rob Glick and I would like to get some Marcus Irwin tapes. I like the mental challenge and they're so much fun. I just did Christi Taylor's 9801 step this morning for the first time and I loved it. She cues very well. I love turns so this was right up my alley. I just previewed all her workouts yesterday and plan on getting Totally Cool Step, Fantastic Four and Toally Hot Cardio. I like them breaking it down a little but not too much. Christi was very good at layering starting with a basic step and then adding in the turns. I still love Cathe but Christi was a nice change.

I believe in a good dose of everything, but most days I thrive on a great brain challenge ( christi, seasun, patrick, etc. ), and there are days when I like to focus on intensity and intervals ( cathe, mindy ), and some days I prefer a combo of both. I like Imax 3 for that reason, and the time flies by on that workout for me.

Maybe the variety is the key to the whole thing?

I like the dancy stuff IF I can learn it. Once it's learned it's fun but sometimes getting there is TOO frustrating and time consuming and I lose my patience and replace the workout with something familiar. For that reason I have a few Cathe step workouts that have yet to be mastered. (I have the biggest problem when she has her back to the camera, which means I would have MY back to HER, right? How do you learn it if you can't see her?) x( I know, I'm pathetic.

When I used to take "live" aerobic classes the instructor always had her back to the class so her left was our left, etc. It seemed an easier way to learn for me. I will try to keep learning it though. I hate to feel defeated by a step workout! :p

I just bought a Christi Taylor, the Totally Cool Step one, after trying it on Netflix and loving it. Now I'm trying Solid Gold Step, which I'm finding much more difficult, but I'm convinced that once I get the moves down, I'll love it. Lately, I've really been enjoying more complex choreography. I feel like I'm dancing, and the time flies by. I'm starting to re-evaluate just how "intense" my cardio has to be. I walk our new dog about an hour almost every day, (she's very high energy), so I don't think my body needs an hour of super intense, high impact, step on top of that.
