Check-in 4/7/01

Steppingup

Cathlete
Hey everyone! I have really enjoyed this week. It could have something to do with spring being here....FINALLY! Exercise has been fun. I just might be getting use to my early morning workouts...some days better than others. I will keep it up and hopefully make it a life long habit.

Here is my week:

MONDAY: CIA 9801 (step)FUN!

TUESDAY: CTX-Chest, back/abs, triceps, biceps and Harold's Urban Training...just the warm up.

WEDNESDAY: CTX-Shoulders and CIA 9801 (step)

THURSDAY: CTX-Leaner legs/abs, chest, back and Urban Training (25 minutes)

FRIDAY: CTX-Biceps, triceps and Urban Training (20 minutes)

SATURDAY: CTX-Shoulders and Urban Training all the way through.

Harold really did any excellent job on his first video. It is so fun and I caught on fairly easily....of course no flava...yet!!! Those abs are tough. I had to put my hands behind my head on some of it because my neck was getting tight.

Well, hope everyone else had a great week!!!!

Kelly

I'll join ya in the check-in Kelly...great week for you! I find those morning workouts tough too but it's nice to have that feeling of accomplishment to start your day with :)!! And, about that Harold video...between your comments and what I've seen over at VF, I'm very tempted -- I need another good hi/lo video. We'll see how my money situation looks in a few weeks ;-).

Here's my week:

Sunday - MIS
Monday - TaeBo AL #12; Firm SBHT
Tuesday - IMax; CTX Upper Body Split; planks and abs from Power Circuit
Wednesday - 45 minutes elliptical machine
Thursday - CIA 2102: PowerBar Training
Friday - w/u from All Step, cardios from All Step and SNI, stretch from 10-10-10
Saturday - Cardio Kicks

That's all folks. Have a great week!
Lisa :)

LAST EDITED ON Apr-07-01 AT 09:28PM (Est)[p]This week was not a good one for me. Exercise wise, it was great, but after I taught my classes on Wed. I was notified that my stepdad had passed on. The funny thing though, is that even with the lack of sleep and the endless crying, I have been pushing myself harder with my exercise. Nervous energy I guess. Well, here is my week:

MON: PS BBA and BodyMax (cardio only)

TUES: StepHeat

WED: Tap, Urban Rebounding, and BodyPump

THURS: MIC(step only)

FRI: PS SLA

SAT: PS CST and BodyMax (cardio only)

SUN: Usually my rest day, but the funeral is on Monday, so I'm going to be doing PS BBA and CTX Kickbox (cardio only)

Ok, I'm off. Have a good week.

Aimee

My gosh do you ladies take ANY rest days? :)
Aimee, my heart goes out to you during this very tough time. Losing a loved one is perhaps the toughest thing we face in life. Wanted you to know I was thinking of you.
Here is my week:
Mon. -- went to opening day..orioles against boston. The good guys won!! (GO O's!!)
Tues. -- 35 mins. of intervals on indoor bike. weight work on back and legs. abs.
Wed. -- ran about 4 miles outside at the park on a paved, hilly loop that meanders thru the woods. Very pleasant! :)
Thurs. -- played one on one basketball against my oldest son on outdoor court.
Fri. -- 35 mins. of >100 rpm on resistance stting 13 on indoor bike. This is a toughie for me! weight work on chest and shoulders. abs.
Sat. -- burned some extra energy at fitness center. worked every major muscle(and some minor ones!!) I could find using free weights and machines. 3 sets/10 reps on all except squats where I did 6 sets/10 reps on smith machine. abs.
Sun. -- nada, except eating! I am about 8 pounds under my ideal weight so time to put it back on.
Apologies for not doing a Cathe tape but my time outside this week was very enjoyable and a nice change of pace. I am gonna post some new pics of the baby, and the rest of the family, on my online album. If anyone would like to see....Just give me shout!
My oldest just signed up for high school classes for when he starts next fall....time sure flies! And.....my youngest is now rolling over and can almost sit up by himself. Looks like he is doing crunches when he tries this.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Trevor :) :-jumpy

Hi Everyone!

Kelly~Thanks for starting us off this week! I am with you~SPRING just makes a body feel good, doesn't it? After the winter we have had, it feels so good to see that sun.:-cool I have Harold's tape on my wishlist. I'm getting weak. I know I'll cave real soon. I could use another tough AB workout too. Great week 4 you!

Lias~I am soo jealous. I want to do CardioKicks so bad, but not til this elbow is 100%. How do you like PowerBarTraining? I just received it while nursing my elbow so that is another tape I have on hold. Keep up the good work.:)

Aimee~I am so sorry about your stepdad. You will be in my thoughts and prayers this week. Give all your loved ones a big hug when you see them!

Trevor~The INDIANS, bases loaded in the 10th., & they blow it! Grrrr! I'm sure you are pretty happy! Be sure to include me on your list for viewing Brandon's new pix. Hope you can post one of him doing his "crunches". He just wants to be like his Dad!
Great workout week for you!

Okay, my week:

Thursday~Taught 2 Hi/Lo classes with toning & ABS

Friday~Leaner Legs, "Precision Cycling" with Jay, I am liking this tape the more I do it!

Sunday! REST!!!!:7

No upper body work again but I am starting to feel some healing in my elbow.:-jumpy! I don't want to try anything for awhile til I am sure I am 100%. I still have a lil' ways to go. RE: Hi Everyone!

Nice enough to walk outside now. Good for me, because after lots of experimenting, I've concluded that walking a lot is good for me as far as weight control. I walked three times this week, and my weight gauge looks good even after a big pig out day on Friday. Ever try Peanut Butter M&M's? :9:9:9

My week was fairly simple:

Sat: Circuit Max with a 50 lb barbell and an 8 inch step. Then I came to my senses and decided that 6 inches is high enough. Then did PS BBA
Sunday: Walked 45 minutes
Monday: Meaner legs and some addition work with my Spri products Lex Loop
Tues: nuttin'
Wed. Walked 45 minutes
Thur. Walked again 45 minutes
Fri: PS CST, and that was it for the day

I'm going to go to lighter weights for my leg work on Deb H's suggestion. She said it worked for her to lean out her legs, so I thought I'd try it....me the queen of heavy weights! I did Circuit Max yesterday with a six inch step and a 35 lb barbell, and still sweated a lot!

How did your shopping for pants go, Deb? Did you see any of those stretch Lee Casuals?

This week was very interesting at the church where I work....I should keep a journal and write a book!!! Next week will be rugged because it's Easter week. Lots of overtime. Good for my checkbook, though.

Happy new week, y'all.

Hey everyone!

Kelly: Good for you on keeping up with those early morning workouts!!!

Lisa: How do you like that PowerBar training video? Is it tough or just something you would do on an easy day?

Aimee: I'm so sorry for the loss of your stepdad. You will be in my prayers....

Trevor: I would LOVE to see pictures of your little one, especially while he's trying to do crunches like his Dad!!!

DebbieH: Hope your elbow is feeling better!!! ;-)

Honeybunch: circuit Max with a barbell? Does that mean you're only working your legs when you do this tape and NOT doing the compound exercises? The reason I'm asking is because I've been thinking of doing the same thing...

As for my week, I basically have NOTHING to report!!!

My husband and I flew down to Florida to spend six days at my parent's place in West Palm Beach. However, the night before we arrived here my father had chest pains and had to go to the hospital via ambulance. After many tests, they discovered a major blockage in one of his arteries near his heart (he's already had open heart surgery about 6 six years ago) and they did an angioplasty and put a "stent" (??) in.

So most of our "vacation" was spent at the hospital...

BUT we did go to the gym yesterday for a quick workout so I guess I could report on that one....okay...

Saturday: Went to gym with husband. Worked chest/triceps/legs. Did 25 minutes on recumbent bike.

That's it for now! Hope everyone has a good week!

Terri

Thanks Terri!

Thanks for your well wishes. I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's hospitalization. I hope he is doing better. Give him a big hug!! It is great that you & your hubby could spend some time with him. Keep us posted. Sometimes, a week off is good for the body & soul.

Hi HB!

Yes!!! I got a pair of those Lee Casuals. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried on 80 pairs of pants. Well, maybe not 80, but I did try around 20 pairs til I found the right fit!! Those mirrors are terrible!! Grrrrr! It was so nice to meet up with you Friday. Glad I came to my senses and realized I wasn't sitting at the right place. Duuuuuh! A PMS moment!:7 Have a great week.

Hey Trevor,

I would love to see some updated pictures of your little one! He's starting out early with his workouts, huh? You'll be an excellent example for him!!! :)

Kelly

Hey everyone!
I'm gonna just post the link to the updated photo album here. I updated it with pics of everyone, including Brandon, of course. I gotta start a new one now because this one is full!
Thanks for letting me share these with you all. I consider everyone here good friends of mine even though we havent met in person and I am glad I can give you all a little glimpse into my life outside the fitness realm. :)

Hi, Aimee--
I am so sorry to hear the news about your stepdad. Please feel free to post (or email) if things start to overwhelm you.
When my dad died 2 years ago, I found myself working out consistently, and it helped me to focus on positive things in my life, so that the sad/mad/etc. feelings wouldn't take over.
I am thinking of you!
Wendy

Tamilee

Hi, Debbie--
Great week, as usual!
Do you have the whole Tamilee series? I was thinking of getting it for my mom if it's kind of beginner/intermediate, but now I'm re-evaluating the status of my joints and thinking I might like to get the series for myself! I'm particularly interested in whether the buns tape has any good floor work (my knees are just aching with all this high impact/squat/lunge stuff I love).
Thanks Debbie!
Wendy
PS obviously its not a beginner tape if you were feeling it the next day! I look at your workouts with awe...

Aimee -- I'm so sorry about your stepdad. When my father died, I found myself feeling all sorts of ways I just could not have anticipated. You just feel the way you feel, whether it be nervous energy or dragging on the ground. I'll be thinking of you.

Terri -- hospitals are no fun! I honestly don't know if it's worse being the one poked and operated on, or the family sitting around being alternately stressed, bored, and panicked.

Hang in there, you two!

Trevor -- I was looking for one of those rest days this week. Will definitely be taking it today! :D Might do a little gentle paddling, hanging out in the sunny Denver weather in our canoe.

Monday: walk/run (3:00/1:00 – 10 cycles, last one full-out 2:30 run), CTX chest, back

Tuesday: hiking with fifth-graders: 2.5 miles; Step Fit warm-up, CTX shoulders, triceps, and biceps

Wednesday: walk/run (4:00/2:00 – 5 cycles)

Thursday: Step & Intervals warm-up & sec. 1, Power Circuit step & kickbox circuits, MIS shoulders plus lateral raise drop set to failure

Friday: 50 min. walk/run (4:00/2:00 – 6 cycles)

Saturday: 40 min. walk/run (4:00/2:00 – 5 cycles)

Sunday: napping in the canoe :-cool

I switched walk/run plans. The Beginning Runner's Handbook 13-week plan was geared towards a 10-K so the workouts were really long. I'm going to follow the Complete Runner's Handbook program from here on out.

I'm anxious to get going on my triathlon training so I think I'll start this week, and plan on taking some weeks off (i.e. doing step/FIRM for a week) later on.

Have a good week, everybody!

:) Gretchen

Terri

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad, and will be thinking of you. Those stents are pretty amazing in the good work they can do! Hope he's feeling better very soon.
Wendy

I just don't think that kid could be any cuter! Wowsa :)
Wendy
Go D-backs :-jumpy (I know, I know, not a great start to their season, but still!)

walking and leg work...

Hey, Honeybunch--
Ok, my knees are just killing me--I couldn't even do the warmup to Leaner Legs yesterday! I think its due to my week of 3 very high impact workouts, but I've been feeling twinges ever since I started Cathe's stuff (I am almost in tears thinking I might need to stop doing these tapes!) :-( :-( :-(
So, a few questions for you:
I know you are a big fan of Spri products, and I will just do a search to find out about the specifics that you've already posted, but do you think they will produce anything like the results I can get from lunges, squats, and heavier weight work????!!!
Walking: Can you tell me some of your favorite walking music tapes?

I am a teacher at a preschool that is connected to a church, (although the preschool doesn't teach any religion)...I, too could write a book on some of the stuff that goes on there--you wouldn't beleive its actually a church, for goodness sake!

Thanks, Honeybunch, for any help you can give me!
Wendy

Kelly--
I've been hearing a lot about that Harold tape...Is it modifiable to low impact?????

Here's my week:

MONDAY: PS and BMAX BACK
Bmax step and Stepworks III, cd, and stretch
(did this all high impact)

TUESDAY: PS and BMAX CHEST
50 min run/walk (3.7 miles, mostly running)

WEDNESDAY: rest (1st of 3, Trevor!!)

THURSDAY: CTX and BMAX SHOULDERS and BIS
Kari HI-LO and MIC Low and Medium sections
Cardio Kick arm drills, stretch and some CTX planks

FRIDAY: rest (2nd of 3!)

SATURDAY: 10-10-10 wu + CTX and BMAX TRIS
PS SLA deadlifts, calf raises and floorwork, +HFL plies and some static lunges
2k01 HI-Lo

SUNDAY: I have to rest. My knees are really hurting (actually just the left one.) I am very distressed by this, because I have a ton of energy and would love to use my CTX DVD's now that I've solved the sound problem I was having with them...

Hope everyone has a great week!
Wendy

Hi Debbie!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-01 AT 12:16PM (Est)[p]I missed out on the forums for about 6 weeks - what happened to your elbow? I'm glad it's feeling better and that you, unlike me the first few weeks after my injury, have the wisdom and maturity to listen to your body and take it slow and easy. Another nosy question - what kind of bike did you buy?

BTW, an UPSIDE DOWN flying angel would probably look very much like my first attempt at a flying angel - except that it wasn't on purpose ;-)

Wendy,

Harold's tape is very modifiable. You could make it all low impact (which most of it is anyway) or you could make most all of it high impact. It is cued very well and Harold is a natural. He does an excellent job in this video. So this might be a good one for you knees. You could compare it to some of Christi's stuff but less complicated. I caught on fairly easily which is a first for me. It really is fun. If you like Christi's stuff or a "little" dancey kind of stuff then you will like Harolds. It is not as dancey as I would have thought it would have been, which is a good thing for me! :)

Hope that helps!

Kelly
