Chapters vs Mix & Match

I'm a new fan of Cathe's and love the fact that her DVDs are chaptered.

This may be a stupid question but what's the diff b/w Chapters and Mix & Match?

The chapters outline each section for you so you can move to one specific segment. Mix & match gives you the option to create your own workout per the chapters....a little here, a little there ;)

Mix and Match is a feature that lists segments of the workout on a menu, then you choose one of the segments, it plays, then the program goes back to the mix and match menu so you can choose another segment if you want.

Chapters are found on many workouts (and in movies), but mix and match is a less common feature.

There's also a "workout blender" feature in the Body Blast series. For that, you choose up to 5 (I think!) segments on a menu, then hit play, and the segments play in order (unlike the "mix and match" feature, the "blender" feature doesn't go back to the menu after each segment, so creates a smoother workout, but limits the number of segments you can string together---unless you do it several times in a row!).

Isn't it great to have well-chaptered (well, at least pre-Hardcore) DVD's? I have several Goodtimes workouts (Firm, Tae Bo), and they are all unchaptered. The main screne just has "play" as a choice. Very annoying!!

Ditto on the Goodtime workouts Kathryn! I did a Firm workout this weekend and got VERY irritated by having to fast forward through all the introductions, etc. How annoying! You'd think by the time the Transfirmer set came out...they could have at least added chapters!

I adore the chaptering! I can mix and match pieces from several different workouts and put them all in my DVD player and have a nicely flowing workout between DVD's. I'm also a big mixer on a single DVD.

Endless possibilities if you have a good DVD player....

Oh, and a big YES on Goodtimes. I actually asked if the new Tae Bo workouts were going to be chaptered (Billy is releasing a new series in January), but was told that it will not be done on this set. I love Tae Bo, but I'm not sure I'm going to buy any more until he gets with the program.

I'm sure it's not up to Billy. Goodtimes makes the decision on chaptering or not.

Possible good news: Goodtimes was just bought out by Gaiam, and their DVD's are chaptered (though I can't really see the link between Gaiam--yoga/pilates/new age stuff) and Tae Bo or the Firm (also a Goodtimes commodity).

That was my next question- which DVDs besides Cathe are chaptered? I don't think I've run into any of them. I have a Gaiam DVD that is yoga for body parts- upper body, lower body, and abs. I don't like it very much as a workout, but I guess it does have chapters since you can start with whichever body part you want.

Are there others?

There are many workouts that are chaptered, though they don't always list the chapters on a menu. Some of them are:

P90X and all Beach Body workouts
Kathy Smith workouts
CIA workouts
Contenders Club
Sara City workouts (minimally, but somewhat)
Crunch workouts
