changes in diet

When making changes to diet...ie...less sugar, cleaner diet...is it normal to feel more tired than usual??? If so...how long does it last?

Thanks for any input
Samantha:)

Yes, it is normal. When I did the 2 week induction for Atkins with my dh, I was very tired and lacked strength. They say it will pass, but I had to add back in some carbs(i.e. banana) before I felt better. I still have no sugar or white flour products and eat cleaner now than I did before. I also lost 16.5 pounds in 17 days which was too much to lose in such a short period of time. If you keep it up your body will adjust and you should be fine.

Hope that helps you.:7

Samantha: I have heard that about Atkins too. If you aren't doing Atkins (not sure if you are, I am not), I find it helpful to make sure I get some protein with every meal with the fruits and vegetables and complex carbs...if I don't eat some protein esp at lunch I get tired later on. Also make sure you are taking in enough calories. "Clean" foods like fresh fruits and veggies aren't very high in calories, but you feel full because of the fiber and water in them. I have used www.fitday.com to track calories etc and it is helpful, if you have time to update it on a semi-daily basis.

Drink lots of water too...recent recommendation I heard from an RD is half your body weight (body weight in lbs) but in oz instead...per day. So if you weight 100 lbs, drink 50 oz of water per day, and so on. I think not enough water can make you tired.

Thanks Annette-

I pretty much ruled out the other "women issues" due to the time of the month...so was wondering what it may be. I get enough sleep, getting enough calories...but feel fatigued...I will keep an eye on it and adjust a little here and there and see what works with me

Thanks Again
Samantha:)

Hello Jen-
I am not on atkins ...but am trying to reduce significantly the simple carbs...for more complex ones...plus sugar, and caffiene...the caffiene has been gone for a while so I know it isnt that...It was funny you mentioned the protien thing ..cuz I was just thinking about that and trying to think of things to fold in..

Thanks for all your input Jen
Samantha:)

Hi Samantha! Yes you will feel tired when increasing your protein. Body is clearly telling you to consume more carbs so please do. This feeling tired shouldn't be occurring; please heed my advice. Kathy

PS: Carbs as in fruits & veggies need to be increased; this is what will give you the energy that you definitely need.

Hello Kathy-

I am definately not anti-carb...just trying to get better ones on the menu....I think the fatigue is related to getting enough calories and the balance of the carb /protien...I am getting about 8 hours at night...which for me is normal and usually enough. doing cardio and strength daily-..It is better today than yesterday!!!YEAH! so I will keep listnening to my body..
Thanks for all the help
Samantha
