Cathe.....Ah, the irony of KPC

As I was first previewing, then working out to "Kick, Punch and Crunch," I was thinking about just a couple of years ago or so, when fellow kickbox fan(atic)s and I started requesting a Cathe-lead kickboxing workout. At that time (3 years ago?), you stated that it really wasn't your thing and you had no plans to make one. How ironic, then, that KPC is one of the *BEST ADVANCED KICKBOXING WORKOUTS OF ALL TIME* (if I knew how to do the fancy stuff, this would be in large, flashing orange letters, with a neon-light banner circling around it, accompanied by fanfare music...but you get the idea!).

I've been doing kickboxing for about 9 years, and currently have around 20 different workouts (though I've tried about 15 others that I no longer have), so I'm a tough cookie to please. You have succeeded.

What do I love about this workout?:
*I LOVE the intensity that you and Jai and Lorraine (who rocks!) put into the workout.
*I LOVE the moves and the combos: so fun and so intense.
*I LOVE the driving music beat (but what IS that guy saying toward the end "Felix?")
*I LOVE that the workout uses a very reasonable amount of space (I liked Cardio Kicks, but would have to leave my living room and go into my kitchen to do all the moves as shown!)
*I LOVE the fact that there are only three of you. It makes it possible for the camera to get closer, and the background exercisers get many more close-ups than in other workouts. (But how CAN Jai be smiling after that tough hammer strike move??).
*I LOVE the back kicks (and my glutes love them too, though my cat who is on the couch behind me isn't too sure about them!)

Since I'm pretty picky, I do have ONE thing that I don't like: my DVD counter starts at somewhere around 53 minutes at the beginning of the workout. Why is that? For some reason, I like to look at the counter from time to time to just check and see how much time has elapsed, but I don't like to have to do the math!!

PLEASE keep on with kickboxing (some folks say it's dying out, but I say "poo" to them!). I'd love to see another kb workout in the next batch of workouts.

RE: Time Counter

The reason the time code starts at 53 minutes is in order to have premixes between two workouts they must be rendered as one piece of "video". Thus, the first 53 minutes is Legs and Glutes and Kick, Punch & Crunch starts where Legs and Glutes ends. :)

Then why wasn't the same true of the Intensity Series? All of those workouts started at 0:00 on my timer. Hmm.....

RE: Time Counter

On the intensity series each workout is rendered separately, including the Bonus Combo (3 pieces of video in this case). The same is true for the Supersets + Push Pull DVD on the Body Blast Series. On the Intensity series the Premix between the two workouts is actually not a premix, but edited video. The reason we don’t use edited video for all the premixes is you can only get about 220 minutes of “video” on a dual layered disc. If you use real “video” you can only get about 3 workouts per disc. Premixes are just a computer script that hardly takes up any room at all and you can have almost unlimited premixes on a disc if you want to. The time code you see on your TV is not programmed by us. Your player simply takes the first chapter point and starts counting. Most players have an option that lets you see "time remaining", so you might want to use this instead of elapsed time. Usually you just keep pushing the "Display" button on your remote to toggle between the diferent time code options.

Kathryn, you said what I have been trying to put into words!

I have a few kickboxing workouts that have never really satisfied me, like KPC, including Taebo and Powerstrike.

Cathe has done a great job with KPC. It goes at a steady pace and is not frantic or too extremely aerobic, like Cardio Kicks, which I have put aside and don't like much because of of the jumping, etc.

I loooove KPC in that is basically stationary while it goes through all the punches, kicks, combos, drills, etc.

Kathryn I also agree with you in that KPC only had Cathe, Jai and Lorraine. I think that having too many background exercisers becomes too distracting and the camera can hardly focus on any one person like it did with KPC. Awesome job!

Cathe, keep planning more kickboxing workouts like KPC, with all its intensity but without all of the jumping/moving around. They will continue to be hits with us and I will continue to buy them.:p

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/lach.gif[/img]

I just have to throw in my 2 cents worth. This is video perfection. It all comes together on this workout in an amzing way. Those three ladies are awesome.

I "previewed" KPC tonight in stocking feet and a bathrobe and before I knew it, I was doing the workout! I was an avid kickboxing hater until Cathe introduced it; in fact, I attended and sat for the exam years ago, and ended up walking out. No joke. The instructor picked on me relentlessly because I felt (and most likely looked like) a huge klutz, and he even grabbed my foot during a back kick and tried to reposition it. My right foot externally rotates a bit and I kept telling him that is my natural body mechanics and to stop trying to break my foot!!

Anyway, for years I shunned kickboxing, then re-learned it with Cathe's older series. The next time I attended a workshop, my form was complimented (by a different instrucotr), but I have no desire to get certified. I'll just workout with Cathe in my living room!!

This is a rocking workout - from start to finish - and I can't wait to do it with shoes! :D

It is so funny. Kickboxing is normally a "once in a great while" thing. Well, I love KPC. I have done it twice so far and I have had my DVDs for less that 10 days.

Thanks Cathe!

I just did Push/pull for the first time and I LOVE it! A well-balanced, effective and short workout. LOVE the stability ball work (well, the balancing while doing bicep curls was a bit shakey at times, but it seems like you also had a bit of a time with that).

(Just a sneaky way of bumping the original message to make sure Cathe has seen it!).}(

I just did KPC for the first time on Friday and have to add "DITTO" to everything that's been said. I love that it's tough, but able to be modified if needed, that it doesn't require a lot of space like CK and that it's a small crew with Cathe (those close-up shots get me moving!)

Keep on bringing the kickboxing workouts, Cathe! They're awesome!:)

I AGREE!!! I just did this workout yesterday and I'm feeling it (big time) in my abs, back and glutes!! WOW!! What a fun workout! I LOVE the music and how all the moves flow together so PERFECTLY!! This is the most FUN Kickboxing workout I have EVER done.

Thanks so much!!! :)

I had to chime in here also. This is the far best kickboxing video that you have done. I just love the combos. I love doing the leg press premix. The music is out of this world which really keeps you motivated. I just keep grabbing for this video out of all of them because it is so much fun:) not that I don't like the others because they are great too;-).
