Cannot AirPlay (stream) LMR2 bonus workout to my television

I mentioned this in another thread, but doesn't look like anyone's been monitoring it. CS, any thoughts on this?

Hopefully someone from the team is still monitoring this thread. I'm getting an error message saying the video format cannot be streamed to my television. I'm on Mac OS using Apple TV. My television isn't old by any means - it's a Sony XBR-48A9S. Am I just only able to stream via an HDMI connection to one of my devices? Should the video format support that model TV?

To help us understand your problem better, are you downloading the video and then trying to stream from your MAC to your Apple TV? Or are you using Cathe OnDemand?

We just tested the Total Body Metabolic Strength download using a MacBook Air and a newer Apple TV 18.6 and an older Apple TV 7.9, and the download played just fine on both versions of Apple TV.

What version of Apple TV and what type of a Mac are you using?

It plays fine on my Mac on Apple TV, it just won't AirPlay to my Sony TV. Hope that clarifies the issue.

I'm running Mac OS 13.7.4, Apple TV 1.3.6.14

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your problem correctly. Are you saying that the download file is on your Mac and you're using AirPlay to connect to your Apple TV, which is connected to your Sony TV via an HDMI cable?

Or are you saying the free download is on your Mac, and you're trying to AirPlay directly from your Mac to your Sony TV without using Apple TV?

Hope this clears it up:

I downloaded the free download and saved into my Apple's TV desktop App.

I open the download to play through the TV desktop App.

From the TV desktop App, with the video open, I select the AirPlay icon and select my Sony television to stream it to my TV.

This works fine with some videos, but this particular video gives me the error message I posted above.

OK, I think I understand what you are doing. It sounds like you don't have a physical Apple TV device (is this correct?), that you just have the Apple TV app on your Sony TV. When you AirPlay the video directly to your TV, it is using the television's internal casting software and video decoders (called Miracast). For the most part, Miracast supports AirPlay, but sometimes not all of the video decoders. Two solutions you can try are:

  1. Make sure that your television does not have any updates available for it's system, because this might be preventing the video from playing correctly. Update it and see if this solves the problem.
  2. Purchase a separate Apple TV box (or a device that natively supports AirPlay 2, such as a new Roku device). You'll connect this to your Sony TV via an HDMI cable and it will pretty much guarantee compatibility with the video being AirPlayed from your computer.
Please let us know the answer to if you have a physical Apple TV, and if updating your TV helps.

Thanks - I'll check to see if there's an update with my Sony TV, and if that doesn't work, I'll research an Apple TV box. In the meantime, I can at least play the workouts via an HDMI cable connected from the TV to my iPad or iPhone.
