Bit by my puppy

So last night while I was playing with my three month old puppy, he accidentally bit me and drew blood. I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide, and it looks fine today(just a tiny little mark). He doesn't have his rabies shot yet, because he is too young. Should I make an appointment to see my doctor?

Not a vet here or a doctor, but I believe it is HIGHLY doubtful that your little guy has ever been exposed or quite possibly will ever be exposed to rabies in his lifetime. There is always the "chance" though (more so if he's an outdoor dog or a hunting dog) which is why we vaccinate. All that to say, I'm sure you're fine and unless you have some reason to believe your doggy has been in contact with a rabid animal or is showing some odd signs, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I'm sure your puppy isn't. :) What kind is the little guy?

Again I am not a vet but I think that puppies have immunity for some months if their mother had been vaccinated. Doubt your puppy has been exposed to rabies. I had once contacted my vet after my kitten had been exposed to having a bat in the house. They reported the exposure to the health department! The HD contacted me but the guy couldn't remember what it was about and that was the end of that. Still it was upsetting.

Phew! Thanks for the responses! He's a black and tan chihuahua. He's litter trained, so he rarely goes outside, and when he does, I'm always with him, so I'm positive he hasn't had any exposure to any rabid animals. Thanks again :)

I agree, I would not worry about anything such as rabies. Keep the wound clean & just keep an eye on it. I would be sure to nip this behavior in the bud (no pun intended!) I realize it was just in play but he/she needs to know that is not ok.

I'm not sure if this is a nationwide law, but here in Florida the doctor would have to report that bite to animal control. Then a/c comes out and quarantines your puppy for 10 days AND that bite is on his record forever. I'd avoid that whole thing I could.

Those puppy teeth are razor sharp, aren't they?
