Bikini Countdown - April 30

Cathlete
Hi ladies, top of the morning to you all. I'm at the very top of this fine spring morning, hours before the crack of dawn. It's 2:15 a.m. CST and yep, I'm still sleeping at odd hours. In my early 20's I used to make the trip home about twice a year in those years I was in grad school. Got rid of the jet lag in two days. That was then, this is now. Age has taken its toll.:p

THANK YOU for all your warm welcomes last Tuesday. Yes, in many ways it was an emotional trip as I got reaquainted with family members I haven't seen in years and as I submerged myself into a culture I spent two decades trying desperately to get out of. It was also bad seeing my son go through culture shock and homesickness. Sometimes I wish I waited two more years to make this trip with him. Too late now.:) He told me though that he wants to go back one day. He really enjoyed meeting his cousins, uncles and aunts, and the beaches blew him away.

I'm still not in the mood to get back to my workouts, but I do want to know what plans you all have for this thread next month. Goals? Rotations? I weighed myself when I got back and was surprised to see I'm still the same weight despite the mountains of crap I consumed during the break, but my younger brother told me at the end of my stay that I am no longer as lean as when I first arrived. This means I lost some muscle and gained some fat, so I definitely want to take care of this starting next month.

There was that thread before I left. Sabine, I think you started it. It was about distorted body image, and I didn't realize how awfully distorted mine was until I went home and my brothers oohed and aahed over my arms and back, while my female cousins asked me -- very nicely -- not to sit or stand next to them as I was, according to them, "very buff" and made them look fat even though they didn't have any weight problems. One of my cousins told me, "You look... Single." And many other relatives made comments about how amazing it was that I was still "able to maintain my body" despite my age and my having gone through childbirth. Now, that one I found almost offensive as it carries this assumption that mature women who've had kids are no longer capable of staying slender. Also, something so beautiful as childbearing becomes tarnished by the idea that it can mar a woman. Not only that, thinness in this case trumps FITNESS, which is why I'm here in the first place.

So anyway, I gotta stop blabbing and try to get some zzzzz's. I hope to get rid of this jet lag over the weekend.

Have a great workout, everyone.:7

Good Morning Pinky! In my 20's my job required me to travel from NY to CA quite often. Thank goodness the jet lag never fazed me, but now (it's only twice a year), it kills me and takes three days to recover! I'm sure you made the right decision to bring your son to the family gathering. I don't know your whole background on why you were hesitant, but I've learned, the hard way, when things in life go REALLY bad, it's usually your family who sticks by you.

Since I'm not working in the office today, I'm going to do MIS and IMAX2. Last night after work I tried to go for a jog and felt nauseous. I think it's because I hadn't eaten anything since 1pm at lunch, and ended up only going 2.5 miles.

Maybe you guys could help me out with some advice. I would really like to get the CTX series (probably the 8 pack, w/ Cardio Kicks and CM). But lately a lot of people are talking about Power 90X and some other core workouts that are really good too. I'm on the fence, which I should get. The last few months I've concentrated on my lower body so much that I grew my own stability ball in my pants! hahaha I think I should do more cardio to deflate it a bit. Last week I weighed myself which I haven’t done in a couple of years. Well, I was shocked! I'm hoping it's all muscle. (hoping, hahaha).

Are we changing the name of our thread starting tomorrow? I was thinking something like "get fit like Cathe", but that might be a stretch. hahaha
Have a great day everyone and I'll check back this afternoon! :) Susan C.M.

Hi Susan and Pinky-
A name change... hmm lets see. How about something we can stick with that is not a quick fix. It might indicate that we are in this for life.

A lasting kind of name that represents our committment to fittness maybe? "Striving for fittness" "healthy fit & balanced"? I don't know.... any clever 'bikini body folks' want to come up with a "catchy" name?

Good Friday morning everyone-

Pinky, think about all the wonderful memories Andrew will have when he looks back on your trip, not to mention I'm sure your family was so thrilled to see him, too. Hope the jet lag goes away soon. Do you have any pictures?

Susan, don't get on the scale! I did it the other day and won't be doing that again in the near future. I was so upset even though my clothes fit fine. x(

Yesterday I decided to change things up and did BootCamp since I hadn't done it in a while (I got interrupted twice though so I felt it didn't count like it should have).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do today- maybe ME, although I haven't done MIS for a long time. I'll see how I feel.

Let's change the name, although I don't have any suggestions yet. I'm searching for Madonna's arms/back, Janet's abs & Jessica Simpson's legs/butt. Not too tall an order, huh?

We're off to the park- check in later if I get a chance.

Hope all of you are well: Sabine, Judy, Lori, Lisa, Elizabeth, Tracy, Joy, Kim, Shywolf... Ugh, hope I didn't forget anyone!

PS- If you haven't read (or seen) Mystic River yet, read the book-
you'll finish it in 2 days and truly is fabulous!

Good morning everyone,

Well I feel like such a slump this week. Usually I'm always into going to the gym 5 days a week. But this week has been just wanting to stay home and read or work on my quilt or just sleep. I guess after awhile the nonstop workouts will get to you and you have to take a break. I think next week will be better.

Judy - I finished the book last night and I was suprised by the ending. There were so many twists and turns that I'd be thinking one thing and in the next chapter something else would happen to change it. Also, I love how he ends a paragraph or chapter with things like "He said no one else will die today. But he was wrong." It makes me want to keep going. He really got going into the symbolism of everything toward the end. I know I can't say too much on here since there might be people reading it and aren't done yet. I think I'm going to break down and buy the Da Vinci Code even though it's in hardback. I like to have paperbacks because they are easier to carry around and plus they fit better in my bookcase. But all the local bookstores tell me that since it's selling so well in hardback they have no intentions of releasing it in paperback for quite awhile. I guess I could go to the library and rent it and then buy it when it comes in paperback just so I have it in my collection. Have you read his other books yet - Digital Fortress and Deception Point? I'm looking forward to these too. I wish I could get involved in a book club that meets and discusses books but I don't know of any in my area. Wow that was longer than I'd expected it to be.

Well, I guess I need to get to work. I'll check back later to see how everyone else is doing. Probably won't check in much on the weekend.

Have a great day everyone (I am so terrible at remembering names that I just say everyone so I don't forget anyone :D ).

Kim

Good Morning everyone,

Had a tough time waking up this morning. Even though I did Sunset Yoga last night and slept like a log, when the alarm went off I was still so tired. So I reset if for an hour later (which was nice) and then was kind of stressed out this morning trying to fit in a workout and get to work on time (not so nice x( ). I settled on CIA 9701, a step workout with Donna Read. It was pretty fun, not too challenging choreography wise, and even included some intensity spurts towards the end (although these were nothing like Cathe's blast, they still got my heart rate way up).

Kim- I read the Da Vinci code over Christmas and had a love/hate relationship with the book. Just as one story line was getting really exciting, the next chapter would be about something else! ARGH!!! It all came together in the end and was a great read. I highly recommend it. Another author who you might like who blends in historical stuff with mystery/suspense is Catherine Neville. Her book 'The Eight' is one of my all time favorites. I'll be reading Angels and Demons during my Hawaii trip and just hope that it lasts more than a day or two before I'm through with it.

Regarding renaming the thread, how does everyone feel about 'Spring into fitness' for the month of May (and possible June since summer doesn't officially start until the 22nd). For some of the newer members, we've taken to renaming the thread periodically to reflect challenges associated with the season's and holidays (ex: the December name was Fit for Xmas). Please share thoughts and suggestions!

Anywho, must run. Have a presentation at the Alternative Placement Center with this weeks troubled teens!

Hey everyone,

Pinky, I think your name is great.

Sabine, regarding your questions from yesterday, on the use of the paper plate in Core Foundations, it's used for rear dips, and then a ballet type move (the name escapes me right now), where you extend your let behind you, then sweep it to the side and in next to your supporting leg, then reverse that movement. I'm on carpet, if you're on a wood floor you'd probably use a wash cloth. They do a very wide circle; I can't, and I do think that it would be unwise to push it. I have not had a chance to preview the other two. I understand that there are pikes in the second one, but the third does not use a stability ball at all. I think the first workout is labelled as Fundamentals. The second is Strength, and the third is Power. I'll let you know more later, if you're interested.

Those of you doing HIIT, I saw this question on another thread, and I've been wondering the same thing. Would the cardio conditioning premix of KPC count as HIIT?

I didn't workout yesterday or today. Yesterday I was off, doing my own thing all day for my birthday (thank you for your well wishes the other day), and today I don't feel well again. I don't know if it's allergies or not. I took some Claritin, but it didn't help much. As long as I feel up to exercising tomorrow...

I hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to check in this weekend.

Hi everyone. Today was also a day "off" , although I don't know if it really was since I cooked for 6 hours straight (big family party)...plus with the cold I'm just wiped. Tomorrow is the party, so that'll take my whole day but it'll be so much fun. I hope the cold is gone tomorrow!

Pinky, you sounded a little too jazzed for someone who is going to go back to sleep! I hope your inner clock gets turned around this weekend, too.

Well, that's all I got. I'm going to bed.

Hopefully Sunday will bring renewed energy and motivation. Brenda, what's your plan for next week?

Hi everyone! Today is my off day. I just though I'd check in to see what's up with you guys. I really like the name chance ideas. Spring is good, since it's Spring, Summer is good, for something to look forward to.

If it doesnt rain tomorrow, I plan to go for a 3 mile jog and a lighter weight workout. I havent done ME in a while, so it might be that one (although I LOVE Supersets so...).

I think for the first time I'm going to try to plan a rotation starting this month. I havent checked out what Cathe has posted yet.
Have a great evening!
