Hello everyone,

It's that time again -let's gear up for another week!! You'll never believe it, I actually remembered to get DH to take my pics before he left for the week. SO, now that we are a good 7 weeks(?) into this check-in, I can do my competition stuff and enter the contest. I must say, I would have liked to see the shots if I'd taken pictures April 1! These would be my midway pics if so!! But then again, I didn't have a very good start up until now so I look at this as a good place to start from and be. I'm feeling good, even though I didn't work out the past 2 days. Getting ready for DH to go out of town again, pretty much focused on the business and the baby!

Enough babbling - on to workout info. This week I plan to do the following:

Mon : S&H Biceps, Triceps and Abs. I will also do an additional ab workout following the warmup since I'm trying out this two sets of abs theory lately!

Tues: 20 minute cardio - either KPC cardio conditioning plus core work, or a half IMAX workout, or Imax BLASTMANIA. I like to pick what I'm feeling that day! Also, abs. (Anyone use TIMESAVER on cardio days? Which ones?)

Weds: S&H Legs and Shoulders (With 2 ab workouts as noted above)

Thurs: 20 minute cardio HIIT - See Tues!

Fri: S&H Chest and Back, plus abs.

As for my eating, I've fallen in love with the EAS advantEdge Caramel Peanut Butter Bars. So, I'll have a shake for breakfast, string cheese and an apple or hard boiled eggs & an orange for midmeals, EFL suppers i.e. Salmon w/Sw Potato, Orange Roughy w/Rice and Broccoli, Steak and Potato w/ veggie, Chicken Parm w/Fettuccini. I haven't picked the rest out yet - so, as Cathe says "I'll tell ya when we get there!" Any other time, I'll have meal replacements.

I wanted to update you that I'm holding steady with my 6 pound weight loss. The thing that I find weird is, how do I know if that's all I lost, since I feel I'm also gaining muscle?? I guess Body fat monitoring is the only way to tell, huh? I'd love to hear how everyone else is doing - please chime in!!

Lori, I want to hear all about Cuba!! How tan are you?? And Fitnut, let me know what you've been eating to stay "clean"!! Your results sound great. And Kristi, are you still here with us, or did you go on to M&F Hers workout? If so, how's it going? GEEZ, can you tell I haven't logged in for 2 days - I want to hear everything! Ok, TTFN.

Let's have a great week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All!

I am still here. After much thought and the weekend off, I have decided to try to stick with EFL as best as I can. This is week 7 for me, and I still have a 2 pound loss. The M&F Hers workout was too much and my body would have went into overtraining mode very quickly even though I'm sure I would have lost the last 10 pounds. I have noticed that my body really likes the EFL method much better than what I had tried this weekend. Today has been a pretty good day eating wise but I still need to get my water as well as exercise in for the day. I guess it is time to buckle down if I really want to see results. If I could just permanently lose 1 pound per week then I would be happy. The scale keeps playing tricks on me and saying, "Yeah, you are 135. No, wait! I change my mind you are 136." May not sound like much fluctuation, but it is when you are trying to lose those last 10.

Tricia, you are doing great! I need to take some pointers from you on your workouts and meals. Just think, when you complete this challenge you will have your photos to look back on and say, "Wow! I've come a long way!".

Good luck today. I agree with Tricia, let's have a great week!!

Happy Monday!

Kristi, my scale did the same thing to me today! This morning it was at 156, then by 3:00 it was at 158!! Oh, whatever! Anyway, I had just done S&H Bi's/Tri's/Abs so I figure my blood was PUMPING!! And I'm glad you're staying with us!!

I started my success journal today, and I'm so pleased with myself because I ate all 6 meals!! I made the Orange Roughy from EFL and it was so good! I also came up with a plan for breakfast - I'm having a dessert!! I tried to drink a shake this morning at 7:15, it took me an hour to finish it. SSSooo, I made the Banana Cream pudding for my dessert/6th meal and it makes 2 servings. Well, with DH gone I can't let it go to waste, right? Problem solved.

I had a good workout today, considering it's my first time on any S&H rotation. I couldn't finish all the reps, but I felt a serious workout taking place. I didn't do my second abs yet, I'm thinking of PM Pilates before bed....

Well, tomorrow is cardio and I feel a kick-butt....I mean a Kickbox workout coming on. I'm not sure what meals, I need to go peruse my EFL book.

Everyone have a great evening - I'll "see" you tomorrow!

Tricia

It's kind of weird replying to myself, but I know we get busy and can't always check in.

Today I did Power Circuit abs, then KPC cardio and core work. For meals I had my leftovers from yesterday, plus a ham sandwich w/ 1 slice of cheese for lunch, an AdvantEdge bar for one of my midmeals. SO I only got 5 meals, but I got all my water plus 16 oz. extra to
offset coffee and workout. I feel very good today! Oh, and my scale was back to 155.5, so I'm not going to weigh myself more than every other week - that seesawing would drive me nuts!

Hope everyone else is doing good!

Hi All!

I started off this week doing really well, but now everything is going downhill. We have had some stormy weather the past couple of days and with it came my allergies. I can barely breathe and nothing tastes good. My workouts and meals are really suffering right now since I have no energy. Even the allergy medicine I am taking is not helping. If anything it makes me more lethargic and I feel like a truck has ran me over. Hopefully this will pass soon. In the meantime all I can do is wait it out. Needless to say this week will probably be a lost cause, but hopefully this weekend when I go grocery shopping, I will begin anew. I really hate feeling this way, but I am surprised that my allergies have not kicked in before now.

I hope everyone else is doing well with their eating and workouts. Tricia, it sounds like you have BFL/EFL down to a science. Keep up the good work!

Kristi

Hi everyone,

Kristi, I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so knocked out. My 19 month old daughter also got a bad case of allergies this week and she's just been dragging all around. You poor things!! I feel for you. BTW, what a compliment to say I've got it down - and on a day when I needed to hear it, too. So thank you VERY MUCH!

I did Slow and Heavy Legs & Shoulders today, as well as 2 Ab Hits workouts. I did Planks from CTX Kickbox, then my weight work, and finished with BodyMax abs. I am really feeling good about the double ab work. I feel like I never put my whole focus into my abs and that is why I've not had the flattest of stomachs. We shall see.

Eating has been slow for me today, but I know I can still make my 6 meals...The dessert for breakfast is really saving me. I've got to run out to the grocery store for supper supplies. I'll see ya tomorrow!

I know I am not a "regular" poster on the BFL Check In, but I do read it quite often - anyway, just wanted to comment on those of you who are upset about not seeing the scale go down, or seeing the scale go WAY down, then WAY up the next day. My 2nd week of BFL I got on and it said "158" - this had me PSYCHED as I have been teetering around 168 for about 3 years now (I am 5' 11"). The next morning, I got on and the scale said "169". Talk about ruining my WHOLE DAY. This is an 11 pound difference!!!!

Anyway - I stuck with the program and am now starting week 6. I still have only lost maybe 3 pounds (depending on the day I weigh myself, what I am wearing, and how the planets happen to be aligned!!!!), but I tell you, I FEEL different. Pants are getting loose. I can fit into things I couldn't breathe in before.
I guess what I am trying to say is, don't always depend on your scale. I have ALWAYS ALWAYS gone by the scale, so it kills me to think of NOT using it as my gauge of success, but in this case - I am going to MAKE myself not use the scale. I may never be the 145 I dream of, but if I look good and feel good, perhaps I am better off??

I hope that didn't sound too "rah rah"-ish ...... : )
I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your "battle with the scale!"

Cheers-
Courtney

Tricia, you are doing great!! Keep up the good work. I'm making out my family's dinner menu for the next 2 weeks as we speak. My DH used to laugh at me for doing this but I got tired of eating the same stuff day after day and I refuse to spend lots of money to eat fast food. Once a week is my limit. Now he asks, what is on the schedule for dinner tonight. I've been doing this menu thing for about 4 years now. Over the years it has, of course, gotten healthier. DH gave me the biggest compliment this week. For the past couple of weeks I have been packing his breakfast, 2 snacks, and lunch, all following BFL, even though he has not been exercising. He said, "Thanks to you, I am below 290." (He normally weighs about 300, but you would never guess it by looking at him. He is the typical football player type with broad shoulders and lots of muscle.) That was a big compliment coming from him and he has never complained about what I have been packing. Normally he will go without eating and his body thinks he is starving it so he never loses any weight.

Anyway, I degress, I plan to start back up on Sunday. Saturday we are having a cookout for some friends that are moving to Florida over Memorial weekend. I can't possibly stick to the plan then.

Have a great day everyone!!

Courtney, Welcome and thanks for saying that! You are definitely right that the scale should not matter as long as we feel good about ourselves. I've been trying to go by body measurements instead of the scale. It is hard to not look at the scale though. I'm going to try to talk my DH into hiding it away. Maybe then I can focus on what is truly important instead of just numbers.

Keep up the great work and please feel to join our discussions anytime. The more the merrier.

Hello ladies,

Courtney, I'm so glad you've joined in!! I haven't been on my scale since the strange 3 pounds in one day incident. I was never huge on weighing myself but I thought maybe I should to keep a gauge. Well, I'll stick to my measurements every other week from now on!

Kristi, I applaud you for doing your menu so far ahead! My DH works construction so he sounds very similar in body type to your husband. THE problem this creates is that he can't really "pack a lunch". He ends up eating at the drive-thru or in restaurants alot. So much so that he never wants to go out to dinner; "All I do is eat out!". He is concerned because he's noticed a big difference in how he feels the past two months and wants to eat better as well as work out again. (I don't see how he's going to do it -he works 12 - 16 hours a day as it is.) But where there's a will, there's a way. Maybe if I got him a copy of EFL to take with him out of town he could keep food at the hotel...I'll keep you posted!

As for me, I got back on track today with my eating. I had a shake for breakfast, only had one cup of coffee, and string cheese with a banana for midmeal. I had my usual sandwich for lunch, another shake for 2nd midmeal, and steak with vegetarian baked beans for supper.

My workout was weird today. First, I did 20 pushups using my Power Tower handlebars - in 4 sets of 5 push-ups. (One of my BFL goals is to do 25 continuous push-ups!) Then I did MIC Hi/Lo warmup and LO section. I didn't feel much intensity, so I went to IMAX 1 and did just the intervals using FF to get to the next one. Then I did the cool-down, and finished with MIS Abs. It was a bit disjointed, but I got it done!

That's all for today - TTFN,
Tricia

5/21/04

Happy Friday all!

I must admit I'm pretty wiped out today! I think because I have been relying more on shakes and bars to get meals in than if I ate, well -food! I only had four meals today, one of which was a sandwich! So maybe that's why I'm tired. Also, DH got home Weds. afternoon and had to leave again this afternoon. Poor guy is exhausted! You know the song, "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone" - that's kind of how I feel. But I have my baby girl to keep my spirits up! She was so cute today, I was setting up my DVD player and had on the intro to S&H and she just lit up and said "Momma - THATHE!!" She loves her!

As for my workout today, I did S&H Chest and Back. I did abs first, then weights. Otherwise, I'd never hold the planks. I'm hoping to do PM Pilates before bed. Or not, I may just log off and crash!!

Goodnight Moon, goodnight mush....
