BFL Check-in 04/20

Good Morning Everyone,
I am a little sleepy today! I have to be AT work for 6:30 and the car is completely covered with snow and ice.All of the snow was almost gone and this won't stay long, but I still don't want to see it.
Yesterday I did Legs and Glutes instead of PLB.I can feel the burn today.Today in between my two jobs I am going to do Imax 2 and some runs on the treadmill. Then I may do CTX Upper Body tonight. The next two days are going to be very work related and I don't know if I will have time to workout!:-( I am hoping i will get something in.
I am also hoping that I will find out today if I am going to cuba or not.I will be so excited if I am , but I don't want to get my hopes up.But if she tells me that she is going and then she cancels.....you don't wanna know.I will be so mad.She doesn't know what she is doing and I am just waiting for her to say she isn't going so that I can go.I REALLY don't think she is gonna get down south for the price she wants.
Anyway,I could go on and on about that. The scale was a little lower today, surprising considering my weekend of "not so healthy food":) DH is going away for work today for 2 nights, which makes not eating in the night time easier.
Thats about it for me.I probably won't get to check back until tonight.
HOpe everyone as a good day,
Lori :)

Good Morning! Last night I did Max Intensity Cardio - step only. It was the first time I did it, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Tonight is legs so I will probably do the Pyramids as I'm only on week 2 of that cycle. Eating has been going good. I don't know about you guys, but I don't always eat the "authorized foods", but I do eat healthy, so I hope that's ok. (for instance, I had the McDonalds Cobb chicken salad with light balsamic vin. dressing). What about you guys? I like the good list that BFL provides as a guide, but it's not a lot of foods! I could be wrong, but that's my impression.

Anyway - hope everyone is having a great day.

That weird, I posted this in the wee hours of the morning and I couldn't find it.It didn't seem like it posted and now its here. This computer is werid.DH thinks its the internet but I think its the computer.
I think the guidlelines are just that.I would have stuck to everything in the book if he hadn't put out the EFL book. There are somethings in there that I would have never thought of. If you are eating a salad with some protein,I would consider that a job well done.
I am trying to debate if I want to workout now or save it all for this evening.I need to look and see if the beds are made.I am feeling a little lazy but I can't have a nap so its just as well to work out!
The girl I work with still doesn't have her mind made upx( But it doesn't look good, for her.She just called the lady she is suppose to be going with and she can't even make up her mind....never mind, booking, getting your shifts covered...blah,blah,blah.Another part that pisses me off, is I said" Why don't you go the thrid week in MAy and I will work your shifts"? She sayed .." No, I can't cause I have to be in Halifax on Thursday".Like I said, she pretty much as the full month of may taken up.No one else can go anywhere with all of her plans...
Like I said, I could go on forever!
Lori

Lori - you are one of THE most energetic people! Do you ever sleep? And you have 2 jobs, work out between them...I'm feeling very lazy!
:)

I have to read your earlier post about your trip - I read it briefly and it seems like you have more info now..so I need to fill myself in. good luck!

Good morning Gemini Girl & Lori!

IMHO Lori I would kindly tell your coworker that if she can't decide when she wants to go on vacation then you might be able to help her decide because you definitely are going and you need to make your reservations now before it is too late. If she was truly your friend then she would have told you to go ahead and make your vacation plans already since hers is up in the air. Besides she has not even mentioned it to your boss to get the time off so technically she has not been okayed for her vacation, right? I'm not trying to be mean but she is being inconsiderate to the other employees. She does know that you want to go on vacation in May doesn't she? You can't plan your life around what others may or may not want to do. Speak to your boss to ask his/her advice on this particular situation. Maybe they can give you some insight on how to handle this situation or maybe they will talk to her to let her know that she needs to be more decisive on her plans so others can plan accordingly. I don't think there is any delicate way around this situation. Good luck!

Well today is turning out to be a better day with my eating. Thank you all for the encouraging words yesterday. Much like mentioned, if EFL had not came out then I would be trying to stick with the BFL method. I like the idea of having low-fat cheese and skim milk occassionally. That was part of my problem before when I tried to do BFL, I wanted some low fat dairy products and it was not authorized. I really like EFL and the few recipes I have tried are really good.

Tonight I plan to do Legs & Glutes with abs. I've realized in the past that my upper body responds well to the pyramiding method, but my lower body likes endurance work more so I might stick with L&G and Leaner Legs primarily with PLB thrown in occassionally and see where that gets me. As you can see I am not doing BFL by the book, but I'm beginning to learn what my body really responds to so why not do it. I think that the BFL/EFL way is the right eating method for me though. I feel so much better when I eat cleaner and more frequently.

I do have another motive in mind when it comes to doing this plan. Next year I would like to get pregnant again. With my son, who is now almost 2, I was border-line with my glucose count for gestational diabetes so I had to follow the diet that the nutritionist recommended and 3 times a day check my glucose level. It is so close to the EFL way that I would like to know I can do this now before I get pregnant again because the odds are that I will actually have GD this time around. Hopefully I can pull this together now so I will have the strength and confidence to do this when it matters the most next year.

Well, I've gotta get back to work. Good luck today!! :)

Hi Krisiti-

I have a question - and yes, this has probably been answered, but can you tell me the main difference between BLF and EFL? I know there is a book, and I have the BFL, so maybe I should get the EFL too. I'm also going to go online and see if that offers any insight.

I'm also going to try to get pregnant this year. Actually, we're going to start in June, and to be honest - as much as I want kids, I'm totally freaking out. I know NOTHING about being a mom! I have nephews and adore them to death, so I know the bare minimum from being around them. Then, of course, I keep thinking about gaining weight- I'm trying so hard to get where I should be - what if I gain so much weight I'll never get it off? Is this BFL program worth it if I'm only going to be pregnant soon (I hope...)

There are two main differences I have noted between BFL & EFL. The first being the okay of low-fat cheese and skim milk. In BFL it was only okay to use fat-free cheese (not as a protein source), but I never saw it okay to have skim milk. I think it is important to have these in your diet if only for the calcium alone. Secondly, EFL uses lean meat which could be turkey bacon, lean pork tenderloin, etc. which are not listed in BFL. I like it that my options are more open to other meats as long as they are lean. It makes it easier to stick with this program long term. Another great thing about the EFL book are the recipes it contains. There are alot of great alternatives and ideas.

That is great news about trying to start your family this year!! I knew nothing about being a mom when I had Alexander, but it all comes naturally and your maternal instincts kick in. Like you I adore my nieces and nephews, I have 9 of them, but there is nothing like your own baby. You will do great and you can always ask for advice if you need help. I've found that people are always willing to offer help and advice even if you have never asked them for it. About gaining the weight, I gained 40 pounds with Alexander. With my next pregnancy I hope to gain less probably 30, but it is all worth it when you have your baby in your arms. Most of the weight you gain is the fluids your body needs to sustain the life growing inside you. I remember reading somewhere that your body produces twice as much blood during this time. Right after having Alexander I lost 15 pounds immediately. Never fear, the weight will come off, but you have to be patient and consistent in your eating and exercising. It took me 6 months to lose all of the baby weight, but I wanted to lose it gradually.

The BFL program is worth doing even if you learn nothing else than what is good for your body and how your body reacts to this way of eating. You will probably be needing to eat little meals throughout the day anyway while pregnant, at least I did because I was always hungry.

Sorry I was so long-winded. I hope I was able to answer your questions. Have a great day!

Hello everyone!

I just began my second week of BFL and hope you don't mind if I ask you all a question ....

While I loooove Cathe, I was wondering if anyone is doing any other tapes to meet their daily exercise requirements for BFL? I had started a Hollywood Trainer rotation before I began BFL, so have been doing that .... will that negatively effect my results?

Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated - it's nice to see this check-in here!!! : )
Courtney

Hi Courtney and welcome!

I think as long as you are eating well and exercising then you will see results no matter what exercise rotation you do. From my standpoint, I am using EFL guidelines, almost the same as BFL, and trying to stick with 3 days of interval training and 3 days of weight work. My upper body responds well to pyramiding, but my lower body likes high rep low weight work. I'm going to do what works for my body. Also instead of doing UB twice a week then LB once and then switching it the previous week, I am trying to stick with 1 UB, 1 LB and 1 Total Body. My point is do what you are capable of doing. I think I read somewhere that diet is 80% or 90% of the equation when trying to lose weight. Too bad exercise isn't the main component. I would have that part licked.

Good luck!!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say that I'll be away this week-end and won't be able to check in. Maybe once more tomorrow before we go, but that's all. Just so you know, I'll be keeping everyone in my mind - Stay strong and focused, as Cathe would say!
BTW -got my Competitor's package, so Monday is "before" pics and official challenge start for me!

Tricia

Gemini Girl,

I hope you don't mind me butting in, I'm new to Cathe fourms and also thinking about BFL. I talked to Tricia in another fourm and she directed me here. My husband and I are also thinking about trying again (actually around June sometime) to have another baby. I just wanted to not to worry about being a Mom, it'll all come, and it is amazing! Good luck!

All BFLers,

I am also thinking about doing BFL, but mostly to get those last few pounds off before I atually get pregnant again. I am traveling pretty much the entire month of May, but I will have access to the computer, I may just try to do an adapted form of BFL and start more seriously in June. Hope you guys don't mind if I poke comments in every now and then.

Lindsay-
That was such a sweet message - you and the other girls have given me wonderful words of wisdom. It is scary, and I just want to be a great mom, and know nothing about how to make that happen! My mom and I are not that close - dont' get me wrong, it's not like we aren't a close family, but my sisters are my lifelines and the ones I turn to for eveything. Without them, I'd be lost. That being said, I so desperatly want to be close with my children and I dont' want to smother them trying to have that relationship I never had with my mom. I guess that's why I'm freaking out - nothing is easy!

My sister has a 1 year old and I can't get enough of him. I asked her thoughts on being a new mom and she said it's the most amazing thing in the world, but 100x harder than she ever anticipated.

So....on the BFL topic - it's week 2, and I haven't dropped one flippin pound! It's at this point I throw in the towel..but i'm hangin in there until at least week 6 before I do anything drastic- like quit! (that cant' happen!!)
