Hey 'Burn the Fat People'!

I thought I'd start this week's thread a little early.

To all who enter here, please feel free to jump in and contribute. This is not a closed thread. Anyone who is currently using or thinking of using BFFM (this is the eBook by Tom Venuto called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle) you are very welcome to join in! We'd love to hear from you.

Hi all,

This weekend was both good and bad. Good: I went out to dinner Saturday and chose a clean meal - tuna, baked potato (plain) and a salad (dressing on the side). Bad: the two drinks and piece of carrot cake I had afterwards. Ouch! It was a 2900 calorie day. It was a planned cheat evening but still feel guilty about it. Oh, but that cake was soo good.

Today I spent working on the boat, getting it ready for the winter so I was on my feet all day. I kept my calories on the low end and drank lots of water. Hopefully I worked off some of that carrot cake!

This week's goal is to plan my eating in advance so to better manage my mix of carbs/protein/fat. Another goal is to get all my records together so I can analyze my progress (or lack of progress LOL). I made up a spreadsheet to fill in weekly with my weight, measurements, body fat, LBM, and average calories eaten for the week.

I'll check back in again tomorrow. Happy burning!

Hell, TK & Everyone!

Well, this weekend I totally blew it!! Yesterday I ate everything bad. Today I am suffering for it. I have no idea why I did that. I have been doing so good getting awesome results. Now I feel like I am back at square one. I went to do my workout this morning and completely fell off my step! Hurt my hand. I gave up. So I am planning on getting on the treadmill this afternoon. I hope to not beat myself up too bad. I am starting fresh and not going to have a day like that again.

Hope everyone has a great day!:)

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

Can you say dietary indiscretion?

After 6 weeks my progress remains at 3 lbs. lost and 1% BF lost.

Bottom line, if I follow the program without to the tee, then it is so effective. The past two weeks have been marked with multiple celebrations and events. I.e., not clean eating.

Running and working out has been perfect. So I need to re-tool my program and give 100% to food program and PLANNING. I also think that I may drop from 1800cal/day down to 1600/day for 3 weeks to trick up the metabolism.

My biggest sin is the social alcohol. I am going on the wagon for 3 weeks. No exceptions!

So, I'll be back checking in with calories, workout routine and goals.

Today (day off) will be 6 mile run. LoMax blasts 1-7. I think I was lifting a little too much in the past 6 weeks. Although I understand the importance of muscle conditioning, I also have 24 lbs to lose before thinking about definition. My focus will be CARDIO with 1 or 2 light weight muscle endurance w/o's per week while 45-60 minutes of cardio 6 days/weeek.

Low carb after meal #2, and no eating after 7pm.

Hi there -

SO I finally got through the book - it took several days as you know... :) I started with my first five meals a day on Saturday - trying to figure out the timing on the weekend with multiple football games to attend can be tricky. But I did it - although Sunday I slept in a bit - and with my typical schedule, my first meal should be around 6:30, which didnt happen, so my last meal was later than I would have liked. I did make a list of meals and hit the grocery store to get stocked up. So I think I am good to go for this week.

The biggest success for me this weekend was not having a drink at all. I even had friends over on Friday night, and made myself what looked like a drink, but was just Crystal light and a little light cranberry juice. That - and the multiple times I had to tell my son that I really didnt want a taste of his desert or seasoned fries or the other multiple things he tried to get me to taste this weekend. :)

I do have to say that I am really excited about BFFM - and when explaining to friends - make sure that I emphasize that it is NOT a diet - but a way of life. It is funny - because I know everything in there is facts that I already knew - but somehow all together - I have a new resolve to make it work.

Anyways - Have a great Monday and I look forward to checking in with you!!!

Hi BFFM Supporters,

Since I last checked in, I've still lost 2 pounds in 21 days. Because of my cheats. I guess I shouldn't do that for awhile. Seems when I do cheat, I can't stop. So, No More for awhile.

The good news is, I'm still working out with cardio and also weights, and am now in a smaller size. BFFM does work! I'm so excited about this. Yesterday I bought my first low rise jeans. I will only wear them around the house, because I'm really too old to be wearing them out in public. (I don't want to look like an old lady trying to look young) However, I did get another pair of jeans and the waistline is just a smidgen below the belling button. I love it!

Everyone, I know it is hard, but don't give up, it is worth it. You all are an inspiration to me. All our good days and bad days, show us how to make this work.

Janie

Hey burners!

Looks like a lot of confessing going on around here! Well, I guess all except for Anne who was good (and welcome Anne!). Seems to me that our little group likes to drink. Tom V really rails about the evils of alcohol in BFFM and now that I'm tracking it all, those evil alcohol calories really stack up. I think I have to make a choice. It's either cheat with food or cheat with drinks but not both on the same day.

Oh, and Janie - WTG with the smaller size and your new low rise jeans. I think the low rise is really a flattering style on a lot of people regardless of age. You should wear them in public. You worked for it.

Did MIC in its entirety this morning. Tonight I have MIS on deck. Since I planned my eating in advance (yay), by the end of today I will have consumed 1487 calories at 42/39/19.

Have a good one everyone.

Hi everyone,

TK - you are an athlete, two workouts in one day! I am so thankful that I get time for one. Which is why I started getting up an hour early.

Hi Anne - I noticed you have two boys as well. I have two although they are younger but when I looked at your pics it reminded me of mine.

I had a few drinks on Sat, which is not normal for me as I don't like "wasting" the calories. Sunday I had dessert at a pot luck after a hayride but the good news is I didn't eat anything after that!

I got up and did IMAX3 this morning with a 6" step. It is the only one I do on the lower step but I think it is time to go to 8". I have done the workout 4 times now and today I think I could have done it with the higher step. I am dreading this Friday's weigh in due to water retention and bloatingx( but I will try to keep that in mind. I really want to eat clean and stay focused this week. 14 weeks to Hawaii and 10 lbs to go. Vicky

Hi Girls,

The 6th week for me and I'm 6 lbs down. Weekend was good, my calories were around 1500cal, 20/50/30 ratio. I went to the gym today and was great. Cardio and weight training, mostly lower body and shoulder.
TK- last week I had almost the same cheat meal but it didn't show on the scale. Don't worry, with your w/o you can eat a whole cake!
I saved a little money and don't know what to buy first. Caliper or HR monitor. Any advice?

Have a great fat burning week!

Krisztina

Hi burner girls,

Krisztina - Hmm, tough choice. Since I use my HRM more often than calipers I would go with the HRM. But if you want both, just bite the bullet and buy both! (I love spending someone else's money LOL). Oh, and congrats on the 6 pounds. Don't forget to move your little lion slider over!

Vicky - Out of all the Cathe step tapes, I think IMAX3 on an 8" step is the hardest one to adjust to. I guess it's all the jumps on and off the step with both feet that makes it so tough. That extra 2 inches makes a difference. Just be careful with your knees.

Anyone else besides me getting a little nervous about the upcoming holidays? Halloween is the beginning of what my old Weight Watchers leader called the 'eating olympics'. The eating olympics starts with Halloween, then you have Thanksgiving, Christmas (and all the parties in between), New Years, Super Bowl, and Valentines Day. Anyone making up goals for holiday eating in particular?

Did the cardio only from SJP this morning. Cardio Kicks was on the rotation, but just wasn't in the mood for that today. IMAX2 is tomorrow but I think make a mish mosh of it by taking out the recoveries and adding in Kick Max Blast Challenge at the end. Calories for today were 1547 at 44/36/20.

Later everyone!

Hi TK -

Yes - the holidays are making me a bit nervous. Especially just starting out - I dont get the few weeks/months of BFFM-ing before those good ol holidays. I think I will be good on the food end - it is the social drinking that kills me. Especially since I discovered the Washington Apple... man they are nummy.... :)

I have been getting my meals in order pretty well. Tomorrow is my cycle up day - so looking forward to throwing in a few more calories - although I am not quite sure what to add. Maybe a yam at dinner or something.

My goal this week it to get in at least 30 min of cardio in the mornings, and then I do the weight training or more cardio a few nights a week. So this morning I did CTX Step and Intervals and tonight I did 20 min Turbo Jam cardio and S&H Bi's & Tri's. I am going to use the CTX series for the morning cardio since they all clock in around 30 minutes.

Have a great day burners!!

Hi Burners,

Ick, I have a head cold. I've been working out, but my DH has been insisting I should take some time off to "get better." I was planning on finishing Debbie's rotation this month then starting my P90X, but I'm like a kid on Christmas and just had to start doing some of my new DVDs. So far I have enjoyed the X-stretch, Plyometrics (tough), Chest and Back (killer) and Ab-Ripper-X (major killer). I was not too impressed with Cardio-X will be swapping that puppy out with another great Cathe DVD when it comes up in my rotation ;-) . My chest, back, and ab muscles are sore today so that would speak for the effectiveness of the P90X series.

I had been eating pretty clean except for the last 2 days. Some pretzel combos "snuck" into my mouth;) . I figured I deserved them because I haven't had any in such a very long time (or a cheat meal) and I enjoyed them. The rest of this week will be clean:) .

Anne, welcome! Yes, I also didn't learn too many new things from BFFM, but it does put it all together and motivate you to plan and eat better so that is a good thing in itself.

Well, happy burning!

Hi everyone. I recently purchased BFFM and am still going through it. I'm only up to Chapter 4. I can't wait to start learning more about the food planning! I'm about six months pregnant, so right now I just try to watch the sweets and not over indulge. I just thought I'd pop over and say "HI".

Hey Burners and Burner Fans,

I'm a little slow at times! Today I took the time to really check out Fitday and the daily calorie/macronutrient counter.

Dahhhh, wish I had understood how helpful this was before now. When I first looked at it, I got frustrated with what I thought was the lack of choices for serving size, or an important part of my dietary intake such as Isopure protein drink.

Then I just discovered that you can add your own food entry if you know the nutritional values....which of course any serious burner does!

So now I can also see how some of you "Brighter Burners" have been able to bang up your numbers, percentages at the end of the day so easily. I got so frustrated trying to do it all by hand with a calculator.(I was really bad with math!!!)

This will now help me understand exactly my macronutrient ratio each day. Following my caloric intake was my weak point.

I have come to realize that when you are as determined as I am, sometimes you have to go back to the Burning Board, re-tool and try a little harder.

Can't wait to post my numbers this eve.

Thanks Buddies

P.S. Welcome SCM (and Baby Burner)

Hey, Ladies!

Well, today is my high day. For the past few days I have barely had anything to eat. Very sick to my stomach. Today I feel much better.

My cals today 1927 48%carb/35%pro/17%fat. I will most likely raise this because it is a little low for me.

Yesterday I did Imax 3 and GS Leg standing. Today I did S&H Ch/Ba.

xschwarz- I can't believe you figured your ratios on a calculator!! I would of gave up right then!

scm-Welcome!!

Today is my high day as well - so it is fun thinking about what else I can eat to get those calories up. This morning I did CTX All Step - and taking tonight off.

I wouldnt be able to do the calories without Fitday - and it is nice once you get the items setup - so easy to add on the next days. (since I am sure we are all eating a lot of the same things)

We are also having weekly weigh-ins and body fat testing at our office. There is a big competition to see who can lose the most by Dec 31st. So it should help to have all the co-workers watching their diets as well - so hopefully it will keep the office goodies to a minimum.

Have a great day burners!!

Hey Burners,

Robin - I hope you're feeling better. Use your best judgement on whether you should work out or not. I've heard before that it was okay to work out if the symptoms are above the neck but you shouldn't if the symptoms are below the neck.

LOL about the pretzel combos. Well, don't feel guilty about it since you haven't had a cheat meal. I wish that's all I had to confess to after my drinks and cake on Saturday.

X - Fitday is cool isn't it? One thing I don't like is sometimes when I compare the food that's already in Fitday to the actual food label there are a lot of differences. Therefore most of the foods I record in my food diary are custom ones that I've created and saved. The downloadable version is supposed to be better. I haven't bought it yet but plan to.

Carla - I hope you're feeling better too. You must be better if you did IMAX and GS Standing legs in the same day!

Anne - That's great that your office is trying as a group to lose weight. It will certainly keep the temptations at a minimum during the 'eating olympics'. You'll have to keep us up to date on how it's going. I wish those in my office would do the same. Except for one or two out of about 20 of us, most of the people I work with have terrible diets. Funny thing is that they snicker all the time about what I eat.

SCM - Welcome!

Well today was a higher cal day for me. I ate 1610 calories at 39/40/21. Tomorrow on the rotation is Circuit Max. That is one of my first Cathe videos. I haven't done it in about forever, not since I got S+H, Pure Strength, and Gym Series.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hello there
Starting tomorrow I Will be back on track. My mother and father have been in town for about 10 days and we have been eating out a lot, however I been eating lots of salads when we go out and trying to stay away from the breads and french fries. Anyway, I'll talk to ya all next week.:)

Hi all,

It must be a slow day if I'm the first one posting today.

Fitness Jedi - thanks for checking in. We'll see you again next week!

Work kept me from getting home until after 9pm so it's just too late to eat. Surprisingly I'm not that hungry. I guess that's the nice thing about eating 5 times a day, but 909 calories for the whole day isn't good. IMAX Extreme is on deck for tomorrow so I hope I have the energy for it. Weigh in is tomorrow, wish me luck.

Keep on burning everyone.

Hello, Ladies!

Well, since my bad cheat this past weekend, I have gotten back on track. I am not looking back! I changed up my goals, and made some for 4 weeks. So we shall see.

Today's workout Power Max & S&H Sh/Legs. I have done cardio and S&H all week. Except Wed. was all cardio.

TK-Why do you have your calories so low? Even on high days?

Have a fantastic weekend!:)
