Best way to learn new video?

Hi All,

I recently purchased "Step Works". I have been stepping (or thought I have been ) for the last 15 years. I have been using Kathy Smith's tapes and thought they were pretty good workouts for a 43 year old:(

Step Works is intense to say the least, but I know once I learn it I will love it.

After 3 times I finally conquered the first 8 mins. I was feeling good about myself until I realized that was just the warm up :(.
I decided to add another 4 mins and learn those steps. After tripping and falling I was a little disapointed.

I refuse to give up!!..anyone have any secrets to learning the difficult moves.

Thanks

Denise

ps: Anyone know the average calories burn for this tape?

Hi Denise,

Try watching the whole thing through at least once. Then try what seems to be the hardest parts without a step, or at least on a step lower then what you usually use. Don't worry, it will come to you and you will feel wonderful to finally get it. If you could do the whole workout perfectly the first time, you would be bored with it after a week.

I think the only secret is perserverance. You've just got to keep at it until it clicks and then you wonder why it seemed so difficult in the first place.

I'm a newly-minted exerciser--I've only been at it since March and with Cathe for the past two or three months--so at first glance, step seemed about as difficult to master as the Rubik's cube. I took Cathe's advice and watched each program through once before attempting it and that definitely helped. Then I just took it slow and worked on one combo at a time before moving on. Once I got some of the basic moves down, it became easier and I was able to pick up new routines much more quickly. Right now, I'm working on Rhythmic Step (which I LOVE) and I've pretty much got it down. This morning I finally mastered that tricky third combo (the one that goes power horse, 3 hop repeaters, straddle, fall on face, get up, insole, kick a cat, etc., etc.) by going over it in my head to memorize the steps and running through it a couple of times in slow-mo. I had my light-bulb moment mid-way through my fifth try and I think I'm finally ready to take on the RS Challenge. The cats will be watching from a safe distance.

I feel the same way you do about Cathe's step workouts. I used to take step classes at a gym that were pretty dancy with complicated moves ( I thiught!) until I tried Imax 2 and could never do it. Anyway in my cruising sites I found this one or maybe someone posted it here, not sure. This may help:
