Best site for plane fares?

I'm going to be travelling to Colorado in February. and want to get the best deal on a flight. I usually use Orbitz, but was wondering what the rest of you think. Are there better places (I've never taken the time to compare, but thought maybe someone else could save me the bother!).

TIA!

try www.kayak.com

They will compare all the prices for you (orbitz, travelocity, etc.). There are so many! Sometimes I find the best price calling the airline direct, so you never know!

Good luck!

Kathryn--
I would think about calling a few airlines (United & Northwest & Southwest?? if you're coming from the midwest) directly because of February being peak Ski season. You may get some detailed info as to which days to fly out and in on that would help you get a better fair. Presidents Day weekend fares tend to get jacked up.

Good luck,
Barb:)

I like pinpointtravel.com (which, I think is the same as kayak) as well as hotwire and expedia. I often find good deals with those two. Cheap tickets and cheapseats might also be worth a look. And I always check directly with the airlines, too. Fares tend to drop in the middle of the week, so check on a tuesday night or wednesday. Good luck!

I like Expedia, then after narrowing down the search that way, I go to the airlines website to see if there are any other discounts. I never call the airlines unless I have to, they will charge more over the phone, and the reservations people are not well trained. The airlines do this intentionally to promote website use. I was a travel agent for over 10 years, so I have so experience here. I would also check Southwest, JetBlue, Frontier, or Midwest Express depending on where you are flying from. Flexibility is key here, the more flexible you are on dates and times, the better prices you will find.

Good luck.

Just a warning, I've checked out flights at Expedia and Orbitz and have found low fares, but if I didn't book right away, because I wanted to compare prices with other sites, the fares went up. Make sure you disable cookies if you plan on comparing different travel sites before deciding.

This is exactly right! It's so frustrating to find a decent fare, go back and have it be higher than it was 5 minutes ago. We always use a different computer when we go back for the original fare.
