BBC Arms and Abs-Welllll...

Not impressed. Sheesh.

I used 8s for triceps and 10s for biceps work and felt nothing the next day. After all the exciting promises of DOMS and whatnot, I thought I was really going to burn, but nothing happened.

And aren't push-ups more of a chest thing than an arm thing?

I was barely able to get my left triceps to do the last few tricep extensions, but maybe next time I'll use 12s for biceps.

And what about the (barely) two ab exercises? Does that really qualify as an ab workout? And although I can't do pikes on the ball, I'm not exactly a weakling when it comes to ab work. I couldn't do the jacknifes because I kept sliding along the bench! Ugh!

And the non-treadmill cardio - isn't it all just one anaerobic blast after another? Is anaerobic cardio really what I need to burn fat?

Didn't like the cardio at all.

I'm confused! Someone please sraighten me out!

Sigh.

Hey,
If its not for you its not for you! I'm SURE you can make a great trade with this set!

I'm not gonna lie when I say I'm surprised by your reaction (and lack of DOMS!! ;)) but like Angela said, no biggie! I, for one, HATED P90X but there are hundreds of people on these forums who could go on and on about that series all day.

Bummer you didn't like it, but hey--that's what makes the world go 'round!! :)

Well, I'm gonna try bigger weights next time. Not sure about the 'cardio' portion, though.

But I do have 4 other videos to try in the series.

We'll see.

Thanks for your responses!

The abs portion is nonexistent in this one - not sure why they put it in the title, but there is plenty of abwork overall in the series..

I would just try heavier weights and then see.....this one didn't give me DOMS in the Bis/Tris but the rest of the series gave me DOMS overall by the end of the week...

I love the cardio in this series! It has helped me increase my cardio stamina for sure! I love it - give it a try or do an alternate cardio workout :)

Well, I was ranting the first day about the legs, simply b/c I didn't like the trainer. Then I did back and shoulders and I indicated I was immobilized the next day! I was dead serious about that. Joey was great and so is Barry. I will try Chest tomorrow with Rich for the first time. The next day after I did back, I did arms and abs and thought it was very challenging-particularly the cardio (non treadmill). I am a very advanced exerciser and recently became a personal trainer so for this to affect me the way it did really surprised me, particularly b/c I do Cathe 6 days a week and never felt such results!!. I am surprised you don't have "DOMS" but have you tried the back and shoulders yet??? B/c that is what affected me the most... The last moves Joey does on the weight portion-standing core I think he calls it- will really get you the next day! Hang in there and give it another try like I did! Good luck! Clarissa ;)

as for the cardio...have you ever heard of HIIT?!?!

i am sure there are plenty of people who would buy it from you.

>as for the cardio...have you ever heard of HIIT?!?!
>

Gosh. Ouch.

Yes of course I've heard of HIIT.

Eminenz2,

I agree with you... I tried Arms & "Abs?" for the 1st time this morning and was not at all impressed...

Although this is the only DVD from the set that I've tried thus far, I don't think I want to continue with the series for the time being even though I'd planned on using it as this month's rotation. I do plan on keeping them and coming back to them in a few months - maybe I'll like them then. They do seem ok to "shake things up" but I'm not at that point just yet.

I haven't purchased the 4DS, so I plan on doing a rotation this month using only the Intensity Series.

Also, (and I am not trying to start something here), how would the cardio in this DVD be considered HIIT? Where are the intervals?? From what I recall, it seemed to be high-impact cardio one after the other with nothing of lower impact in between.

with very high cardio bursts, a small interval of a few seconds rest can be all that's needed for HIIT. There are different ways to do it. IMAX3 blasts only premix is considered HIIT.

Definitely, this series is not as well executed or planned as Cathe's (can you say, NO warm-up?). However, as with anything, if you push yourself and keep an open mind, you should see/feel the benefit.

I personally, am really enjoying this series as a way to mix it up a little! It relieves boredom and hits things in a different way.

Oh, as far as feeling it--I lift heavier than even the guys on the film and think that the girls need to step it up a little! 5lbs for biceps? COME ON! :) I was using 12-15lbs for biceps, 15's for uprights rows and one arm rows. There is one particular chest exercise in the chest DVD that I had to drop to 12lbs on--I COULD NOT continue with 15's (BTW, I've hit the 30lb mark for chest in Cathe's new 4DS). On the jabs in the shoulders DVD--I am feeling it A LOT with 8lbs! The cuban presses, I can really feel in my rotator cuff with 10lbs; as this muscle gets stronger, I intend to increase to 12s!

The cardio, is quick and intense, although I have felt some negative pain in the back of my knee afterward, and all the impact bothers my feet. And personally, I will never jump on one leg for more than eight counts. This is something I learned five years ago when I was becoming certified through AFAA with my primary group aerobics certification. So, I alternate legs throughout that whole section.

Maybe not for everyone, but I'm loving it!

I didn't know a "few seconds" of recovery was enough to consider something an interval.

In IMAX2, Cathe says there are 10 intervals in the workout and each interval consists of a step routine, a blast, and a recovery.

So what actually is an interval?

P.S. Tried BBC:Legs and Butt yesterday and ditched it after 15 minutes and did the 4DS:LIS w/shoulders. heehee.

I like BBC. It's admittedly "rough around the edges" and at first I questioned wether it was for me or not. I gave it a chance though and after learning to accept it's "imperfections", I have grown to adore it. IMO it is a super tough series of work outs that get right to the point and kick my butt. Gotta love it!}(

JMO!:)

I think that in order to appreciate the whole DOMS aspect of BBC, you need to do more than one workout. If you do all five in a row, by the end of the week, you'll be feeling it. Trust me. It's a kind of layering effect.

I really like BBC a lot, but I have to admit that I didn't get DOMS from the Arms workout, which really surprised me. My arms were shaking when the workout was over. At the end of the workout, when put your hands behind your back and stretch, I made the same sound that everyone on the DVD did! It was such a relief. My triceps were a little sore the next day, but my DOMS usually come late the first day after a workout or the second day. Didn't happen with this.

But....I still liked it. I'll do it again, maybe up the weights some.

yes, that's one way. if you do a search for HIIT you will see MANY different types of workouts (even weighted HIIT w/o's). i would search for you (and i'm not trying to be dismissive) i'm just really busy at the moment. like i said, i've used the blast only premix in IMAX3 as HIIT. IMO, IMAX2 is not true HIIT because of the step routines. it takes your heart rate up and down more gradually than true HIIT.

one example of an HIIT workout i do on the treadmill is:

60 seconds at a 6 min or under pace (about 10.0 or above)
walk at 4.7 for 30-45 seconds, repeat 14 times

for true HIIT, you shouldn't really feel like you can sustain it very long at all and shoulld feel wiped out after. it's very effective. i would say bbc is HIIT-ish in that it has you doing blasts of cardio with very little rest time.

And please don't forget everyone that although we Catheites all seem to adore and look to get DOMS as much as possible, it doesn't mean that you didn't get a good work out just because you didn't get DOMS!:)

That's true...:)
