bathing suit season...ugh!

Does anyone else ever wonder why men can go through summer wearing the same attire, whether at the beach, pool or walking around, and women are expected to parade around in their bra and panties?

I just came home from bathing suit shopping and although I know I don't work out as much as I should or could, I do know I do a lot more than many people. God didn't bless me with a lot on top and he apparently saw fit to give me a more-than-ample bottom, and to find a bathing suit that looks good is more than torture! I wound up finding a permanent sarong-style bottom with a bra top that looks okay, but I think I tried on at least 20 suits on the way.

I'm tyring not to get depressed over this. But even so, I'm on my way to do Leaner Legs!

Phew ! Luckily I don't have to worry about this in the UK, we just don't have the weather for bathing suits ! LOL :D

Good Luck with Leaner Legs, Michele !

Anna :)

MEEEE Too! I hate having to put my sweaters up and drag out bathing suits, sleevless tops and shorts. I wouldn't mind not having hot weather at all!

Hi, I know what you mean, bathing suit shopping can be torture! You think your starting to look really good, then you put on the bathing suit - and turn around to get a peek at the rear view!! I gave up on bikinis. I think they look good on me from the front, but the backside just is not what I want it to be. Now I buy board shorts and wear with a bikini top or a tankini top. Someone from this website suggested www.patagonia.com and they do have cute boardshorts. But it takes a long time to get it delivered bec of high demand for them. I still don't have mine and my order was in May. I love the boardshorts bec I can enjoy myself and feel confident that I look good and nothing is hanging out.

Not me!

I'm going to brag! In the last 10 weeks, I've lost 11 lbs & for the first time since I was 20 years old (for those curious--NINETEEN YEARS ago), I am going to wear a bikini & be proud to do it. I still have about 8 lbs that I want to lose but I look better now than I have in years.

I'm just finishing up the tank top rotation. Surprisingly, I lost a good deal in my hips & thighs doing this rotation. My arms are more toned but still have a long way to go. I have posted my before pictures on the cathe addicts picture page & will post my during pictures at the end of the week.

RE: Not me!

Cool, Deb!

Michele, a sarong style bottom that matches the top sounds so pretty! Don't you find trying on suits sort of aerobic? I do- especially in large numbers! I bet I have burned lots of calories that way!

Keep up the good work- sometimes a really esthetic body evolves over a long time of working out. Look how long Cathe has consistently worked out. Change is related to the amount of time spent *not* working out, too!

Also sometimes some of us help mother nature out in other ways! (who, me?) to proportionalize...

RE: Not me!

Go to the library and rent a Bing Crosby/Bob Hope movie, usually called "The Road to..." and check out Dorothy LaMore (Not sure if I spelled her last name right). She wore sarongs.

RE: Not me!

Board shorts and short spandex boy shorts have solved all my bathing suit woes. I don't know why we torture ourselves trying to hide fat with the traditional bathing suit choices which are designed to reveal the body. Only the "revealworthy" will ever look good in them.

I don't like the idea of wearing sarongs or other wraps to hide what the bathing suit doesn't. I don't think it really fools anybody, and then you have to keep track of that little wisp of fabric blowing away if you get in the water.

I just wear shorts and all is well.

I have the same problem areas as you do. I found a "skirted" bikini that actually I am very proud to be seen in! It covers up the area I'm a bit timid about but shows off my abs(which I have worked so hard for!). Also I think looking good in a swimsuit also comes from within. If you feel good about yourself and stand tall, you'll look more confident and IMO trimmer! Take care and have a fun summer! Susan

I know this sounds so simple, but I have noticed that good posture really improves my appearance in a bathing suit as well. It's hard to focus on all the time but it makes a big difference if I stand tall, with my shoulders back and walk proudly. While it doesn't really affect the appearanc of hips & thighs, it does wonders for the chest and midsection. And my attitude.

I'd bet if you took a good look at the other women on the beach wearing bikinis, you'd realize that you wouldn't look so bad in one after all. I too have a fear of wearing two piece, but would love to. After a recent visit to a local beach, I said to my husband, what in the hey am I worried about, there is nooooo possible way that I would look like that in a two piece. You know the type that I am talking about. I've decided that I wouldn't look so bad after all. I'm no Brittany Spears by any stretch of the imagination, but I sure as heck wouldn't look as bad as some of those women do. I think at times, people must only have bathroom mirrors....not the full length. They'd have to. How in the heck could you possibly wear that swim suit if would have looked in a full lenght mirror. People don't even try to get a suit that fits their body type. They just cram themselves into something and off they go. I always chuckle at the swim suit selection at Old Navy. They carry two pieces in a size 3X. I'd love to see some one in one of those babies. I am sorry in advance if I offended anyone with that comment. On the other hand, if someone is confident enough to wear a 3X bathing suit, more power to them. I say to myself at times....who the heck do I think I am that people are actually gonna notice me?

I hope I didn't offend anyone with anything that I said in this post. I am truely sorry if I did. It was not said to slam anyone.

Hey, Kim!

Just wanted to let you know that I got a good laugh from your post. Living near the Jersey shore, I've seen more than my share of "bad" bathing suit beauties!!!

I have a friend who recently bought a bathing suit without even tyring it on...she said she knew whatever she got would look bad anyway, so why bother!

RE: Not me!

Hey Deb, I am going to brag too :7 I am very pleased to say all my hard work has paid off, I have lost about 19 lbs since March 3rd, I am about 119 lbs now at 5' 2" aand very happy, I am not finished by a long shot as far as exercise goes, but I am pleased I can wear a swim suit this year and look good in it :7 ........ Rhonda :7

RE: Hey, Kim!

There's something to be said for that attitude! Not letting the swimsuit factor keep you from going to the beach and being active! There's more to life than looks. A little, tiny bit more :p
