I'm obviously not Cathe, but I'll give you my 2 cents. Let me preface this with the comment that I have had wrist tendon trouble and am very careful how I handle weights.
I have both types of bars (4 ft. bent bar and 5 ft. straight bar) and I use the straight one the most. The issue with the bent one is that your wrists can be placed at a very odd angle for some exercises. However, the exercises the bent one is good for, it is definitly good for.
I'd say go to a sporting goods store and try a few moves to see how your body reacts. If you want to err on the safe side, buy a straight bar.
